Perhaps when TLR escapes, he'll go to the school to 'collect' Ryan early but PE teacher now knows (because of heart-to-heart with Ryan) that TLR is supposed to be in jail. TLR then kills PE teacher. Ryan sees who TLR really is then either runs away or gets taken by TLR. (Catherine does have a particular set of skills and will find him!).

Ulysses · 16/01/2023 07:50

I think Richard and Catherine are reconnecting. She’s lost Claire now so needs someone to talk to Ryan about. I suspect they will get back together (since he’s now separated) and then he will have a tragic ending.

Sorry me again.

Seems to me that James Norton isn't getting much air time. Wonder if he had other projects on at the same time or Sally Wainwright decided his character didn't need further development.

Yeah he's dialled Tommy in this season.

storminabuttercup · 16/01/2023 07:59

Not buying that Richard is Tommy's father that would be ridiculous. I don't think we will ever know who his father is and I think that's fine it's a sign of the life he's lived

EsmaCannonball · 16/01/2023 08:14

The worst outcome for Catherine would be something happening to Ryan, Daniel, Claire or Richard. Perhaps the slightly superfluous scene at Daniel and Ann's beautiful but remote fixer-upper was to establish it at the perfect scene for a siege, featuring a desperate criminal on the run with his reluctant son. That places Ann and Nevison on the potential casualty list, too.

Someone upthread mentioned the possibility of Catherine being disciplined for punching that scrote. Losing her pension for scrote-bashing?

LittleBowSheep · 16/01/2023 00:26

I did notice that Catherine left her computer screen unlocked when she left her office after reading the test results for the pills that Jo had been taking. If Joyce is involved then she can sneak back in to read it because all of the officers seemed to have gone out to help with the arrest.

I thought that but I think it will be like not buying a parking ticket, just not important, just awkward filming which more reflects how we are in real life - rushing off to meetings and forgetting 3 things we need to go back for. Usually in tv it's all smooth!

WouldJudasLeaveIt · 16/01/2023 08:43

Yeah a ginnel is a passageway between buildings, so a row of shops could have a ginnel behind them, it doesn't just have to be houses.
The bit in Happy Valley where Faisal walked I'd refer to as "going down t'back of t'houses"

LindorDoubleChoc · 16/01/2023 09:00

Of course TLR is going to escape at some point during the court appearance. That was the whole point of the tiny arse phone. The TAP came from the shop Neil works in which is a money laundering "fake" shop. Neil is involved with the drugs gang, either voluntarily or through blackmail.

I can't remember how the pharmacist heard the voice message from Catherine to Jo about the drugs. But it seems a bit implausible.

I think they can be traced back to him as they were still in the blister packs which have a serial number on them I guess. Perhaps that's what she wrote on her arm? The point wasn't that they were "illegal" drugs, just that they were supplied illegally without prescription.

The fact that the woman who fell through the window was registered blind is going to be relevant at some point.

I'm another one who thinks that Becky's suicide is not exactly as Catherine believes or has created in her head.

Claire - yes, she's been to one too many AA meetings and has probably killed off half her brain cells with drink and heroin. Stupid idiot.

WouldJudasLeaveIt · 16/01/2023 09:05

I think Catherine says in series one that Becky wrote TLR's name down didn't she, that's how she knew it was him? She also said she was the victim of a brutal attack though too.
I'm really hoping it doesn't descend into LoD farce.

EdieLedwell · 15/01/2023 23:51

Catherine totally clocked Joyce clocking the information about Jo. That's definitely something

I’ve always said there is something odd about Joyce. It goes deeper than being nosy. I think she is somehow connected to the OCG. Coming back to the service as a civvy after her retirement would be the perfect way to feed intel back to them.

MrsDoylesApron · 16/01/2023 09:08

The number she wrote on her hand was Jo's landline number. She checked it as she got her phone out to make the call. Faisal heard the message because he was in the house when it was recording live on the landline ansafone.

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 16/01/2023 09:14

I don’t think TLR is using Ryan. That was the only bit of real happiness and love we’ve ever seen in TLRs eyes, when Ryan came to visit him. I can’t help but feel for TLR, as much as what he has done is just horrendous and vile. With a smackhead mother and abusive childhood, he didn’t stand a chance.

ilovebrie8 · 16/01/2023 09:14

I didn't post when watching last night as I need to concentrate! Had a hunch the pharmacist would kill Jo as he is under pressure from the drugs gang and when she said she had lied to him he would snap. Don't think we are seeing enough of TLR at all!! Thought we may see some more of him back in his cell etc after the visit had ended. Claire is pathetic all the excuses for Ryan seeing TLR. I think a few others may have said this but last night's episode left me a little flat it wasn't one of the best.

yep I think so! she is the mole ...

Rhondaa · 16/01/2023 09:32

'Neil is repulsive and loathsome and has a horrible voice! What on earth does Clare see in him?! I thought Catherine was very restrained in the cafe'

He is repulsive. I think Catherine hasn't given Claire both barrels because she knows she is stupid but also vulnerable and as an addict it wouldn't take much for her to spiral back on the booze or drugs. It's just so disappointing to have the pair of them doing something so absolutely reckless but I suppose addicts aren't renowned for rational thought and common sense. The 'sorry' to Royce was very illuminating, he's definitely the one in charge isn't he.

I was a bit bored by Faisal's prolonged clamber down the path, seemed to go on for ages and his permanently panicked face is also a bit boring .

Love Ann Gallagher, the actress playing her is excellent hwo she portrays tue trauma and ptsd. Daniel is a bit underused so far imo.

Bunionbabe · 16/01/2023 09:37

Are Daniel and Ann an item now? No idea how I missed that happening. Brain fade.

the80sweregreat · 16/01/2023 09:39

Faisal's trip round the back to see the ill fated Joanne seemed to go on forever!
Maybe it's to hi light how a professional career person struggles with normal things like this ? It seemed to be filling in time a bit ?
She put the tablets he gave her in her pocket at the start of the conversation about killing her husband.
Unless he took them off her , they might incriminate him further as they will be same ones she was cautioned about before. They were still in the packets.
He touched the door handle before putting on his gloves too.
He didn't need to kill her :(
Totally irrational behavior.

WouldJudasLeaveIt · 16/01/2023 09:40

Weird there's just been no mention of Daniel's little girl, she will be about 8 now I think 🤔

the80sweregreat · 16/01/2023 09:41

In episode one we see Ann and Daniel together and Nev has bought them that old house
No mention still of Lucy ( his ex ) and his baby , who must be six now or something?
Does he see the child ? Can't remember if it was a boy or girl they had

the80sweregreat · 16/01/2023 09:42

Ryan is now 16. So Daniel's child must be eight not six ! Sorry

the80sweregreat · 16/01/2023 09:43

Catherine and claire haven't mentioned het other grandchild / relative at all
It's winding me up tbh !

He fed his Dad to the pigs in Gentleman Jack! 😁

These Yorkshire men are scary. :)

sensechec · 16/01/2023 09:40

Oh please.

It’s made up, I’m allowed to say what I think! The facts are though (fantasy tv aside), that children of addict parents and abusive childhoods have poor outcomes than those that don’t. Obviously the majority don’t rape, murder and commit heinous violence.

I stand by the fact that I don’t think TLR is using Our Ryan. I do believe it’s the only bit of love and hope he has in his life.

WouldJudasLeaveIt · 16/01/2023 09:49

I think TLR is using Ryan. I think his hatred/obsession with Catherine overrides any love he has for Ryan.
I think the end will be Catherine potentially sacrificing herself for Ryan.
