Sorry me again.

Seems to me that James Norton isn't getting much air time. Wonder if he had other projects on at the same time or Sally Wainwright decided his character didn't need further development.

It was Ryan who said “Revenge is a dish best served cold” in episode 2. Twice.

I hope he is developing a secret slow burning plan to get his revenge on TLR for what TLR has done to his mother, his granny, himself (the petrol) and his almost-Aunt Anne.

CanofCant · 16/01/2023 01:13

Poor Joanna.

MrsDoylesApron · 16/01/2023 01:17

Or is Ryan coming out with a line that he's heard TLR say. And we are meant to worry that Ryan is looking up to him. I think it's more likely that TLR is seeking revenge by using/hurting Ryan than vice versa.

JaneJeffer · 16/01/2023 01:20

Jesus it takes me longer to catch up with the thread than to watch the programme Grin

And I still maintain that there's something dodgy about Richard!

I agree. His body language was off when he was talking to Catherine and the way he said "I'm sorry". So here's my new outlandish theory:

What if Richard is TLR's dad and Becky only found this out after she had the baby possibly from Tommy's off her tits mother and couldn't cope with the knowledge of that?

burnoutbabe · 15/01/2023 22:09

I assume that was just a mobile number

And I thought maybe the drugs test may show they are harmless so no crime Abs Faisal killed her unnecessary. I also thought Faisal was always planning on killing both of them Friday night, he just wanted it to look murder /suicide

It came back from the lab as Diazepam - Catherine read the report.

miri1985 · 16/01/2023 02:12

I think evil PE teacher will end up in prison with TLR and he'll kill him for saying something about Ryan.

I get that telling Ryan he is likely the product of rape could be really detrimental to him but I also think these veiled hints about how bad TLR is isn't helping the situation. I think hes old enough now to let him know about what TLR did to Ann. I think if he knew that and the effect his continuing relationship with TLR is having on her that it would make him reconsider

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/01/2023 02:57

Out of interest, how much air is needed for a fatal air embolism? It's a method used in one of Kate Atkinson's books and I've always wondered how realistic it is. And surely the puncture wound would be picked up in the post mortem?

It's really not very clear and opinions vary. It really depends an awful lot on where it is injected. Reasonable article here
medium.com/a-microbiome-scientist-at-large/will-you-really-die-from-an-air-bubble-in-a-syringe-19b484e3a386
At any rate, not an efficient or reliable way for an amateur to murder someone.

Certainly the puncture wound would be visible, and I understand there would be other signs visible at post mortem.

Netaporter · 16/01/2023 03:00

I’m guessing that the pharmacist gets caught by his fingerprints being on the wrapping of the syringe as he probably handled it without the gloves before giving it to Jo.

UrsulaPandress · 15/01/2023 22:52

OMG @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g that is so not a ginnel 🫣

That’s what I thought 😀 I’m like, that’s just a public footpath he sneaked down, a ginnel is a narrow alley between houses or buildings.

TerfOnATrain · 16/01/2023 03:29

I agree with other posters that TLR will escape. I’m sure I’ve seen a poster or trailer of him dressed all smart and suave, looking attractive and polished. Maybe that’s in court? Or when he’s escaped and is trying to blend in, or even in Spain.

the plot thickens.

QueenSmartypants · 16/01/2023 03:53

The most unbelievable thing for me was Catherine not automatically hitting CTRL+ALT+DELETE as she rushed from her desk!

James Norton is brilliant - TLR is the most terrifying villain I think I've ever seen on TV.

I like Neil, but mostly because I really rate the actor who plays him. He and Claire...so disappointing but Catherine has them nailed: weak, naive and soft. You could see how upset and torn Claire was, how much she wishes she could turn back time and do things differently.

Did Ann cut her hair between smoking in the garden and starting at CID? or was it just clipped back before? Thought cutting it was a stroke of genius if she did.

Please stop prophesying more doom and death for Catherine. I want to see her get in that old van and drive over the hills to the Himalayas at the end!

Osteospermum · 16/01/2023 06:19

Previous form with the hapless idiots like Kevin Weatherill and John Wadsworth is that they get caught before the end of each series. So I am expecting the same for Faisal but haven’t figured out how yet.

SausageInCider · 16/01/2023 06:26

I can’t help but get annoyed with Catherine. Her long moody silences and quiet distant voice when someone pisses her off must be absolute hell to live with. I don’t think Claire is weak at all, I think she’s scared of Catherine and her reactions so she sneaks around behind her back to support her nephew. Catherine’s behaviour over the years has everyone walking on eggshells around her.

Claire has been the only consistent source of love for Ryan, she’s warm and caring to Catherine’s icy cold anger especially in the earlier series when poor little Ryan (who didn’t ask to be born) upset Catherine and Claire was in his room comforting him. Claire doesn’t resent Ryan for being born in the same way Catherine did. Catherine might have her reasons for acting like that but she doesn’t act like she loves Ryan fiercely - she just wants people to do what she wants.

I adore siobhan finneran and she can do no wrong.

WeAreTheHeroes · 16/01/2023 06:37

I think this is fascinating - of course TLR is going to feature more in the second half of the series. It's a fantastic part for James Norton who I first saw in War and Peace on the beeb.

Faisal is already working for the OCG - they've got wind of what he's up to and have made demands of him.

The guy who was arrested by Catherine has stolen from the OCG. Viktor who ordered the other two to go and sort him out may already know this?

storminabuttercup · 16/01/2023 06:46

The alien thing I think is just a bit of light relief. In episode one Catherine and Claire are laughing about cow rustling, then Catherine said last night that the alien thing was a prank that Shaf was playing (a little bit cruel) but offered some humour in a dark episode

MetaDaughter · 16/01/2023 06:47

Den of Geek reviewer is on fire …

www.denofgeek.com/tv/happy-valley-series-3-episode-3-review-catherine-ryan/?amp

Though I question her categorisation of ‘good men’.

PrincessScarlett · 16/01/2023 07:14

Maybe Joyce was so interested in Catherine's computer because she is working for the OCG so either wanted Jo's address (this seemed to be focussed on a lot) or recognised the drugs and is aware Faisal deals such drugs for OCG. Perhaps OCG will turn up to Jo's whilst Faisal is still there 🤷🏻‍♀️

Agree not much screen time for TLR. But think all of this will change from next week when presumably he makes a break for freedom.

mrssunshinexxx · 16/01/2023 07:20

I think when Catherine said to Claire that no one else would of said yes re taking taking Ryan hit the nail on the head. Anyone else in their circle would of been a hard no.
Can't wait for TLR escape next week it's got to be happening
The pharmacist bloke is surely going to make that murder look like it was her husband as they have on record he's been battering her. Although he will have an alibi , work??

AlecTrevelyan006 · 16/01/2023 07:32

My prediction is that chemist guy will not kill Jo - either because she wakes up, or he gets disturbed or chickens out.

or he’ll think he’s killed her but she survives

MetaDaughter · 16/01/2023 07:33

Surprisingly halfway decent recap in The Independent:

(Yes, I know The Guardian recap exists - I like a wider range of opinions.]

OMG @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g that is so not a ginnel 🫣

In my defence, it's a long time since I lived in Leeds and I'm actually Scottish. Does a ginnel have to be between two walls/buildings?

MrsDoylesApron · 16/01/2023 07:42

Thank you for that article on air embolisms, Bore. Fascinating! So it probably needs to be at least 5ml and injected directly into an artery. You would have to be quite an expert. I don't know if a pharmacist's training would cover it. There was mention that Faisal was a frustrated medic so perhaps he's done some extra reading!

NashvilleQueen · 16/01/2023 07:45

What if Richard is TLR's dad and Becky only found this out after she had the baby possibly from Tommy's off her tits mother and couldn't cope with the knowledge of that?

Not a chance. It would undermine the brilliance of the writing for me if this were to happen.

HannaHat · 16/01/2023 07:46

You don't have to be an expert to kill someone by air embolism, I knew someone who died that way 20 years ago (he'd fallen in with the wrong crowd) and one of them offered to inject him with something and just injected him with air "for a laugh".
