There's definitely a pattern of idiot men committing a crime that they needn't have committed.

I think Faisal's OCG visitors will be arrested and he'll be off the hook there, so the financial pressure will be eased.

Greatly · 15/01/2023 22:36

But I do think the end is going to have to be Catherine making the choice to either kill Tommy, knowing that Ryan would hate her forever, or let him live.

WhoWants2Know · 15/01/2023 22:36

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/01/2023 22:15

Why is Neil so happy to help Tommy

And our Ryan.

It's weird he said that

Wondering if he somehow related to Ryan /Tommy

I said I thought Tommy wasn't his dad and was Neil

But that means whole story and Becky and Catherine is all false and what happy valley is about

But thinking now he isn't his dad as in Ryan's. But he's tommys dad

Do we know about Tommy's parents at all ?

Could Neil be tommys dad and Ryan's grandad ?

A lot of people have been asking this, but Neil had previously been married for a long time with kids. His life didn't fall apart until after the murder victim from series 2 blackmailed him and released humiliating photos that ended his marriage and started his drinking problem.

dapsnotplimsolls · 15/01/2023 22:37

I'll be amazed if TLR doesn't escape at some point. Surely the series has to end with some kind of confrontation?

EsmaCannonball · 15/01/2023 22:37

Can you imagine going on an outward bound course with Faisal?

Back when Corrie was watchable, Sarah Lancashire was brilliant as the equally brilliant Raquel. Her feature episode of Clocking Off is also one of my favourite episodes of that series (second only to the one where Lesley Sharpe's character has a boob job). It's on iPlayer at the moment.

There has to be a point to Ryan attending court in Leeds. TLR has done a deal with the OCG; lie to the police about the gangland murder in exchange for being sprung from court. He tries to take Ryan with him, and either Neil or Richard gets killed trying to intervene?

There also has to be some kind of point to Ryan's connection with the horrible PE teacher. Things don't look good for horrible PE teacher, but surely time of death and other forensics will eventually exonerate him? I can't help but think he or the pharmacist will die and Ryan and TLR will somehow be mixed up in it.

I watch it all stressed and then I re watch it to enjoy it lol

Haha me too!
Does anyone know if the actor who plays Ann G has been re cast ,it looks like her but doesnt if that makes sense

storminabuttercup · 15/01/2023 22:38

The more I think about it the more I think Ryan wants to see his dad as he's his only living parent, TLR told him and keeps telling him he's been set up and there will be a part of Ryan that wants to believe him. I don't think he's out for revenge or anything. He's stubborn but he's a teen...

Marsde · 15/01/2023 22:39

Greatly · 15/01/2023 22:33

I thought this was the weakest episode so far in the whole series.

These were my exact words to DH as soon as the episode finished.

Loved the 'secondary' plots in series 1 and 2 but really not feeling clumsy pharmacist guy. I was actually bored at one point and I wait obsessively for Happy Valley every week.

Feeling a bit 🤷‍♀️ about this episode, sadly.

Raggletaggles · 15/01/2023 22:39

duc748 · 15/01/2023 22:28

Neil's no criminal mastermind, like Clare, he's weak and not too bright. But I did think that even by teenage boy standards, Ryan seemed a bit gullible. He had Rob's number before, would he really be taken in like that? And does he not know that TLR poured petrol over his grandmother? And if he doesn't, isn't it about time he was told?

Agree… why would he tell Rob ANYTHING let alone his personal family life after how abusively his teacher has behaved.
but @duc748 TLR poured petrol on Ryan not Catherine- planning to commit a murder-suicide.

That is definitely Charlie Murphy.

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 15/01/2023 22:40

Surely Joanna will be found within hours of her death so even if they suspect neckbeard initially the pathologist will be confident about time of death and he will have an alibi as he will be at school.

And YY TLR will escape from court so there can be a face off with Catherine. Reckon Ryan will have to make a choice at that point.

ignores fact TLR has pleaded guilty so would just appear by video link in real life dramatic licence and all that

dapsnotplimsolls · 15/01/2023 22:41

Maybe Groomy will invite Ryan back to his house for a cosy chat and ... find his wife dead in his kitchen?

Kissedbyfire1 · 15/01/2023 22:41

Exactly. He’s no good to the plot stuck in prison. He needs to be on the loose for the showdown. Hope he gets killed by Ann.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 15/01/2023 22:41

TLR must be planning to escape (learning Spanish)
The Leeds appearance is part of it
Planning to take Ryan with him? To really get back at Catherine (rather than a dad wanting his son)

I think Anne will be the one who prevents it... maybe she gets killed in the process...

Poke · 15/01/2023 22:41

Well, goodness me. I need some time to digest all that. I’ll have to watch it again in a few days.
Neckbeard would have been at work, so can’t get the blame. Faisal didn’t put his gloves on til after he’d touched the door handles. A neighbour would have seen him too and he has no alibi. So, I don’t think he’s going to get away with it, but he might kill himself.
I can’t believe Claire would betray Catherine like that. I just can’t believe it. Sarah Lancashire as always, was totally amazing. 🙌

dapsnotplimsolls · 15/01/2023 22:43

I'm hoping the Susan Lynch character (name escapes me) saves Catherine.

melonraspberry · 15/01/2023 22:43

It felt like some of Catherine’s chat on the doorstep was improvised
‘do you know what hereditary means’
and
‘what you’re having for tea’
just his reaction as well felt it . Almost like she’s giving him a masterclass in fine acting and they obviously know each other well

PriamFarrl · 15/01/2023 22:44

I have forgotten Ann’s storyline completely. I was very confused.

Agree. Think she did it last week too after the teachers office meeting.

She's next level.

Is it Alison?

WhoWants2Know · 15/01/2023 22:46

I think the "weak character pushed too far" scenario is repeated each series because it highlights the contrast with the psychopathic violence of TLR and the clinical violence of the organised crime family. All three are highlighted in each series.

Gardengirl108 · 15/01/2023 22:47

Seeingadistance · 15/01/2023 22:08

How is Anne, the CID lady?, connected to Catherine?

Ann was the woman who was kidnapped in S1, she saved Catherine from TLR, became a PCSO and later a police officer, she’s the daughter of Nevison, who Catherine is close to and she also lives with Catherine’s son.

EsmaCannonball · 15/01/2023 22:47

What if it all goes a bit Line of Duty and ends up with TLR being abducted by aliens?

Is the alien stuff a bit of background silliness or could it be something to do with drones practising dropping weapons for a prison break on the way to court, or helicopters rehearsing where and how to pick TLR up from the prison convoy? (Far-fetched, I know. But fun to think of these things.)

When I watched the first series of Happy Valley, the 'hapless, weak man stumbling into a series of crimes' trope reminded me strongly of Fargo; both the film and the Martin Freeman character in the television series.

colouringindoors · 15/01/2023 22:50

SenseFromThoughtDivide · 15/01/2023 22:35

Well TJR seemed very keen to plead guilty for a crime there was no real proof for = a court date, he seemed very keen that his son would also be in court. That seems a lot of coincidences

Yeah I was thinking exactly the same..Will the Kenevs break TLR out in Leeds and will Ryan get taken?

PriamFarrl · 15/01/2023 22:51

You lot all know that the whole thing with the police officer and the alien in Todmodon is ‘real’ don’t you? Well, the policeman thought it was real anyway.
