Who will be victorious?

He wasn’t allowed to carry on alone, Claudia told Wilf he had to recruit someone and they would either accept or die. It was basically the producers trying to set it up so the faithful would win. Without that, Wilf would have won easily. But with a reluctant ‘recruit’ that Wilf couldn’t resist backstabbing? Wilf was doomed by the producers…

No I don't think it was set up so the faithfuls would automatically win. The faithfuls knew that there was at least one traitor because Andrea was murdered so they would have carried on banishing until they'd found that traitor. Providing Wilf with another traitor meant that it was possible that once one traitor was found, all the others would end the game and the remaining traitor would win. But Kieran made the faithfuls stop and think and then Wilf threw it all away with his usual histrionic bollocks.

Agree there had to be two traitors

I said Wilf had picked the wrong person, he should have recruited a dimwit.

He was right to go for a man he should have recruited Aaron he could have easily got everyone to vote Aaron off and Aaron wouldn't think to backstab him back

Romeiswheretheheartis · 24/12/2022 11:19

Just looking back at this thread and peoples theories as to how it might end. More and more I think things must be engineered a fair bit, otherwise what would they have done if Wilf had been outed straight after Andrea? The whole programme would have been half the length with no dramatic finale!

CaveMum · 24/12/2022 11:31

Finalists on Radio 2 right now.

Claudia has already given Meryl a no swearing warning!

autienotnaughty · 24/12/2022 12:33

I really wanted Amanda to win as I thought she played brilliantly but will go the better of her and deserved to win.

scotsbud · 24/12/2022 15:47

QueenOfThorns · 23/12/2022 17:12

People keep saying this, but I’m sure that they were absolutely never told. I remember thinking at the start that, if I was a traitor, I’d probably slip up by forgetting that no one else knew how many there were!

Yes even when Claudia said "the traitors have been recruiting" she never specified that t was only one person they were recuiting

Frabbits · 23/12/2022 10:04

The show was heavily weighted towards the faithful winning at the end, as soon as they introduced the recruit or die mechanism it was pretty obvious how it was going to go as it severely disadvantaged Wilf at that point.

At that point, he had 2 ways to win:

Convince everyone else to vote off Kieron who would reveal he was a traitor and then split the cash 4 ways.

Team up with Kieron and then they would have to get rid of 2 faithful as otherwise the faithful would never agree to end the game.

Kieron was a shit traitor so the first option was clearly the way to go and that way Wilf would keep all the money rather than having to split it with that 3/4 length cardigan wearing twat. The problem is that in the round table Kieron...

  • Admitted he was a traitor
  • Said there was another traitor
  • Told everybody who the traitor was

To anyone with half a braincell, which admittedly most of the remaining faithful barely had there was literally NO reason for the faithful to not Wilf off as there was no consequence for doing so - either he is a traitor or the money gets split 3 ways rather than 4. Whatever Wilf did after that someone was going to force another banishment, especially as it only needed 1 person to do that rather than a majority.

(Taking this to it's logical conclusion, what the 3 of them should have then done is vote again to get the remaining people down to 2 - reduces the chance of a traitor still being standing and increases their share of the pot.)

Don't get me wrong, it was entertaining TV but the format needs tweaking. There needs to be an incentive for the traitors to risk revealing themselves for a start. As it is there is no way for the faithful to know who the traitors are apart from blind witchhunts. A simple solution would be to give the traitors a reason to sabotage the missions - e.g. they have a seperate prize pot which is the money the team doesn't win in the missions.

Yet, Meryl, the turnip, didn't realise even after Wilf had a giant "I'M A TRAITOR" neon flashing sign above him on the round table and a drum banging town crier shouting "MERYL ITS WILF HE'S A TRAITOR" at the fire pit.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 27/12/2022 01:08

Well DH and I have just binged 12 hours since Xmas Eve.

That was, without a doubt, the best reality TV show in recent years - and it came from nowhere.

I like it when good people come out on top. Wilf was clever AF but he turned on one too many fellow traitors and he didn’t realise Kieran could turn back on him.

Lovely Hannah was my favourite and I love that you could just see when the penny dropped for her when Kieran did the eyes at Wilf and back to her. All her emotions were on her face.

Excellent show

Georgiesgirl · 27/12/2022 06:09

The American version comes out next week! Hosted by Alan Cummings.

Limer · 27/12/2022 06:40

Finally finished watching this! Pleased with the ending, but Wilf might have won if he hadn't massively overplayed his hand. Simply sitting there and pointing out that Kieran was a sore loser, rather than carrying on with all the histrionics. That said, it was 100% obvious that from the start there must have been a male traitor, so Hannah/Meryl/Aaron should have worked out that Wilf was a traitor by now.

Had to LOL at Wilf claiming he was really happy he'd lost - bullshit!

I do think that genuine secret voting would be better, even us viewers could easily see what names people were writing on their slates all around the table.

So for any future contestants - if you're a faithful, just play dumb and follow the crowd. If you're a traitor, vote off anyone who suspects you ASAP and then persuade the remaining gullible faithfuls to vote off the other traitors.

KatherineJaneway · 27/12/2022 07:03

Great news there is an American version, I will definitely be watching that.

I don't know...seeing how people vote is important to working out strategy and sussing people.

Limer · 27/12/2022 10:14

I agree - what I meant was it should be impossible to see the voting as it happened - I thought quite a few times that e.g. Meryl saw Amanda clearly write "John", so she did the same, rather than casting her vote without any immediate influence. But I guess that's all part of the game!

Can we see this in the UK - Anyone know what channel this is on?

Georgiesgirl · 27/12/2022 14:55

It's on Peacock which you can apparently see via Now tv subscription.

SequinsandStilettos · 27/12/2022 21:12

Meh. Survival of the thickest made me smile.
Far too much crying in the whole thing.
Way too much fake empathy - contestants thinking about the edit probably.
Aaron eliciting Craig-from-BB-like audience sympathy by mentioning he was doing it for his mum.
Give me a proper Nasty Nick (you don't come close Meryl) or a traitor, who was laughing their ass off at their treachery on exit.
It is interesting how they often were like sheep - reminded me of the Weakest Link.
Am amazed creators of Mafia/Werewolf aren't suing. DD used to love the latter, so am nostalgic.
The ending where Kieran denounced Wilf was blatant cheating though. Someone called it on the first tread on here - what's to stop a traitor denouncing the other(s)? I can only assume producers were in on it then. As someone pointed out on here, the series would have been fucked, had Amanda or Alyssa done something similar.

Penguinsaregreat · 27/12/2022 21:19

The thing with voting for a banishment is that you risk being voted off yourself. So if you are a faithful it makes sense to vote to stop unless you are convinced that there is still a traitor left.
The first series of anything like this is always the best. I stoped watching BB after about 4 series for this reason. The apprentice was the same.

Suing?

Why would they sue? The concept is that of social deduction and informed minority/uniformed majority... that's like Ludo trying to sue Frustration because their games uses a dice and you move the amount of spaces indicated and try and get home...

There are SO MANY games that have a similar concept, no one is going to sue.

greenerfingers · 27/12/2022 23:43

Whoever suggested Australian survivor.. it's amazing! I'm hooked and the treachery and twists are so shocking.

SequinsandStilettos · 28/12/2022 01:07

I used to play murder in the dark when I was little and Wink murder with kids on field trips decades ago. Sadly, you are correct regarding Social deduction games. As far as intellectual property goes, Hasbro considered Mafia "unprotectable."
Dimitry Davidoff never made serious money. He came up with Mafia in 1986.
It was a Latvian tv show too apparently. He seems quite cool with it all. I'd look at all the evolutions and success of Among us etc and feel quite stabby Xmas Wink
For any geeks like me, there's an interesting article here:

Apparently Meryl would like to become a talk show host/TV presenter. I didn't find her very engaging on screen, or very good at asking pertinent questions, but maybe that was the situation and the editing.

I think she would make a terrible presenter. She was completely overexcited for much of the time and spoke so fast I couldn't understand her.
