Who will be victorious?

I said ( on here) that picking Kieron would come back to bite Will and it did!
But I still didn’t expect that amazing tense ending! Hannah’s face and Aaron’s
( Meryl had no clue) as it slowly dawned on them what Kieran had alluded to that it was Will.
And as Will jumped about denying things with all his might you could see the recognition, it was a great finale.

WoolyMammoth55 · 23/12/2022 15:50

I think Wilf would have won if either:

A - he'd chosen Hannah to join him as a Traitor... He didn't have the relationship with Kieran to make it work.

B - he'd been more subtle about pinning it on Kieran on the final day. If he'd planted the seed but been more neutral - "does Keiran seem guilty to you? Hmm I don't know - or maybe it's Aaron... Argh why is this game so hard" and then when Hannah and Meryl were going for Kieran he'd maintained "not sure but maybe..." Then all he'd have to do is stay subtle in the rounds table and write Aaron on the slate and look innocent and Kieran wouldn't have been so angry.

Saying that, I wish Amanda had won, and if Wilf wasn't such a twisty backstabber she might well have done! So don't really care that Wilf lost.

It was fun and I watch hardly any TV these days. Will hope S2 is as good!

I’d like to see a reunion episode of them all coming back together having found out and see if anyone’s held a grudge.

OMG, ALL THE YES TO THIS IDEA.

@Oher He wasn’t allowed to carry on alone, Claudia told Wilf he had to receuit someone and they would either accept or die. It was basically the producers trying to set it up so the faithful would win. Without that, Wilf would have won easily. But with a reluctant ‘recruit’ that Wilf couldn’t resist backstabbing? Wilf was doomed by the producers…

This is interesting though because only 2 traitors had left and everyone knew there were 3 (right?) So since the departing players need to identify themselves as faithful/traitor before going, how was it going to be possible for Wilf to win if he's the only traitor left?

Separate point: on a Guardian comments thread someone said that there's a role-play game called Werewolves that this is based on, and in that game the prize money is either split by the last faithfuls standing OR by ALL the traitors. Even if you've left, you still share the winnings, because Traitors are a team. I think that version would have been more interesting.

I think they did. After Kieran left, Meryl said something like "so that's it, then", and I'm sure that after Amanda, they were saying things like "just one more now".

bevelino · 23/12/2022 17:00

Am so pleased that sneaky Wilf didn’t win as he was so happy to throw the other traitors under the bus.

No I don't think it was set up so the faithfuls would automatically win. The faithfuls knew that there was at least one traitor because Andrea was murdered so they would have carried on banishing until they'd found that traitor. Providing Wilf with another traitor meant that it was possible that once one traitor was found, all the others would end the game and the remaining traitor would win. But Kieran made the faithfuls stop and think and then Wilf threw it all away with his usual histrionic bollocks.

People keep saying this, but I’m sure that they were absolutely never told. I remember thinking at the start that, if I was a traitor, I’d probably slip up by forgetting that no one else knew how many there were!

JulieMarooley · 23/12/2022 17:20

I absolutely loved this series. During the final episode I thought Wilf was so clever with his two ‘routes’ and I thought he had it completely in the bag.

Though of course in hindsight, Kieran had no power to win himself, but he held the power to decide whether to let Wilf win or the faithful win.

DownInTheDumpster · 23/12/2022 17:44

I was saying to DH though from the last three faithfuls perspective they lose nothing from voting out Wilf. If he’s in they either a) risk losing it all if he’s a traitor or b) have to split it 4 rather than 3 ways if he’s a faithful. They were sensible and used their brains over emotion- there was a massive hint and it was in their interest either way to get him out.
I was on the edge of my seat though! And I’m glad he won them over with his little speech. They would have lost their minds he had won!

Mumsfret1976 · 23/12/2022 18:11

I didn't like Kierons reaction at the round table, I thought it was OTT and too personal. It's a game FFS, Will played it very well and I thought he earned that money, it must have been a really stressful 2 weeks for him! Thoroughly enjoyed the whole series. I wouldn't have had a clue what was going on if I'd been in it myself!

Follycastle · 23/12/2022 18:34

They definitely weren’t told there were three traitors at the beginning. At no stage did they know exactly how many traitors there were.

Rayan revealed on Twitter they were told on the first day that there were between 1 and 5 traitors.

startfresh · 23/12/2022 18:52

Just like @QueenOfThorns I was thinking that I would slip up and mention there being 3. I was actually waiting for that to happen.

But no, there were various points where they said "how many do you think it is" etc. so definitely not told. Claudia even said at one point they didn't know, I think.

BaconAndAvocado · 23/12/2022 19:15

Wow! What a finale! I was completely on the edge of my seat.
Loved Kieran’s “parting gift” comment. And I was so glad the Faithfuls won.

When is S2 ????

IconicKitty · 23/12/2022 20:29

I think season 2 would be good around Halloween time.

I feel like it was all more set up by production than we twigged during watching. I feel like the viewers are the ones without the braincells. Wilf was played like a puppet throughout. They knew they needed one traitor to do the twist stay or die reveal, there's no way that was thought of momentarily when Amanda left.

I think that was always part of the plan as that's how the Australian one was also. You had to choose a new traitor or it would be way too easy and the game would end.

I think we need it sooner than that 😩

I’ve been on the studio lambert website and the application form seems to be for this show that has just been on as it says you need to be available in Summer 2022 for filming.

But you have to be happy to throw anyone under the bus in the game or you won't win, especially as a traitor. Wilf played it really well until the last round table, though I wonder if he even overplayed it on purpose so the other three would suspect him, as he seemed so relieved and pleased when they won.

PuppyMonkey · 24/12/2022 10:58

Just a reminder the final five are on with Claudia on Radio 2 this morning!

autienotnaughty · 24/12/2022 11:07

I've just binge watched it in last 48 hours. It's an amazing show, I can't wait for series 2.

Meryl, Hannah and Aaron only lasted to the end because they were the most pliable ones. Aaron won a lot of money but other than that their skill set was pretty weak. The way Kieron indicated Will showed he knew Will was a traitor. That was unfair, without that Wilf would have won. Will played the best game it's wrong he lost.
