Matt Lucas to leave GBBO. Hallelujah!

Sky news reporting tonight that Matt Lucas says he doesn't have time for GBBO anymore, which IMO means he's been asked to leave as he completely unfunny and utterly annoying.

I cannot bear his puerile "antics" on GBBO and am at a loss why he was ever appointed or indeed why he has a reputation for being amusing. He has been the worst part of the show for the last three years.

I wonder who they will get in. Really needs to be female to balance it up.

OP posts:
TheBelmont · 07/12/2022 09:55

Or the writer/actress from Fleabag

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 07/12/2022 09:55

Please god not Judy Love or Miranda Hart.

Falalalalaaah · 07/12/2022 09:56

I also like the Judy Love suggestion. Also Miranda Hart or Harry Hill.

I love Alison Hammond on This Morning and she's so sweet and lovely to everyone. I think she'd be good. I like Dermot O'Leary on TM too but not sure I'd like him on GBBO

greenerfingers · 07/12/2022 10:01

I find Neol even more annoying and so unfunny and cringe. Paul is a nightmare too. It's all pretty bad tbh!

CheeseIsMyPatronus · 07/12/2022 10:02

Matt Lucas was dreadful, good riddance.

It needs to be a woman, and someone with warmth. Also someone who thinks baking has value, rather than just capering around finding themselves funny.

Stacey Solomon, maybe? Andi Oliver? Susan Calman?

RosalindsAFuckingNightmare · 07/12/2022 10:11

Another vote for Ellie Taylor - she was great in the pottery throwdown and I didn't want Sinead to come back.

knittingaddict · 07/12/2022 10:16

Andi Oliver should be a judge not a presenter.

Please NOT Harry Hill.

PrincessScarlett · 07/12/2022 10:22

I always loved Mel and Sue and watching the Best of Bake Off recently highlighted that they were by far the best presenters.

Agree that Romesh would be good.

LaLaLouella · 07/12/2022 10:24

I've rather fallen out of love with GBBO, I used to be an avid watcher but reading this thread has made me realise that I missed the semi-final and haven't been bothered enough to watch either that or the final. I'm not even sure who won!

I don't think the presenting team has worked these past few years - I rather like Noel, but the other presenter needs to be someone more grounded, with some warmth who actually enjoys baking and has an interest in it. Too many times the jokes went to the overly surreal and left the contestants baffled - the number of times Noel or Matt tried to joke with one of the bakers who just looked either stressed or totally confused got really awkward. And those were the ones that made it to the final edit!

I also think the tasks have become overly complex and fiddly. I used to enjoy recreating some of the bakes at home - It inspired me to bake my first loaf, try a Swiss roll, make a macaron but the stuff on this series is beyond me and I wouldn't know where to start. The bakers also seem massively stressed out by it all - I want them to have enough time to make stuff which looks good, not collapse in a little puddle at the end with half finished cakes.

<sigh>

Croftboft · 07/12/2022 10:25

I think Aisling Bea would bounce well off noel. Sarah Millican would make me stop watching.

ABookAndCake · 07/12/2022 10:30

Thank goodness, he was so painful in this role I stopped watching, I’d prefer they replaced him with a woman

SavouryFlavour · 07/12/2022 10:39

I think GBBO needs to cut down the screen time for the presenters - what exactly are they bringing, when all's said and done? This series, Matt and Noel were the thick layer of bland icing on a pretty average two-layer sponge. Less icing, better sponge, please.

TheBelmont · 07/12/2022 09:55

Phoebe Waller-Bridge? Not much chance of that. She's way out of their league now.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/12/2022 10:44

greenbirdsong · 07/12/2022 09:53

I also wasn't keen on Matt Lucus in this role.

I'd either keep Noel on his own or get someone like Joe Lycett with him.

Not Nadiya or any former contestant, I think the idea is to bring comic relief....well not that I ever laughed much at ML or NF Xmas Confused

Not Joe Lycett. I didn't take to him on the Sewing Bee. Sara Pascoe is better.

TugboatAnnie · 07/12/2022 10:47

Miranda Hart would be good, I like her 4th wall approach. Although Noel might feel a bit insignificent. How about Fern Britton? And she'll know about cooking from Phil.

Presenting is also really not her gig; she's an actress and writer. She's probably making more money as a Hollywood script doctor than she'd make on GBBO.

Totally agree.

BloodyHellKen · 07/12/2022 10:55

MissyB1 · 07/12/2022 08:19

Right just need to get rid of the very annoying Noel and totally arrogant Paul H now!
Prue Leith, Mary Berry and French and Saunders would be my ideal line up.

That's an excellent line up @MissyB1 but I'd like Paul Hollywood to stay so they can mock him a bit 😁

ClaribelLowLieth · 07/12/2022 10:55

I haven't really watched it for ages but I'd love a warm witty woman (or women) to host. TBH I really don't like Sue Perkins so I'm happy she's gone - Mel was okay, Sandi too. Really don't like Noel in this role or Matt Lucas in anything

Warm witty women are what we're all missing - from GBBO and in general life!

French and Saunders would be great - but are they too high profile? But they did just do a Christmas ad so . . .?

Janieread · 07/12/2022 10:56

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/12/2022 10:42

The idea that PWB would do GBBO is absolutely laughable. What about Tom Cruise? He likes cakes apparently.

ClaribelLowLieth · 07/12/2022 10:56

And no I wouldn't get rid of Paul!

I LOVE having a good looking baddie!

He's physically repulsive.

Luxurysleuth007 · 07/12/2022 10:58

Noel on his own is fine by me or as someone else said someone who can be the Yin to his gothy crazy yang. He’s One hell of a cool cat.

ClaribelLowLieth · 07/12/2022 10:58

Janieread · 07/12/2022 10:56

He's physically repulsive.

Ha! Objectively I think he's really good looking.

"Hot douche" they called it in Drag Race!

EspeciallyD · 07/12/2022 10:59

Good, I stopped watching a couple of years ago partly because of him. Also it's just too long since it went to C4 and all the ad breaks making it last an hour and a half.

I'd rather they had a presenter who isn't a comedian. Sara Cox, Melanie Sykes, someone like that.
