Matt Lucas to leave GBBO. Hallelujah!

Sky news reporting tonight that Matt Lucas says he doesn't have time for GBBO anymore, which IMO means he's been asked to leave as he completely unfunny and utterly annoying.

I cannot bear his puerile "antics" on GBBO and am at a loss why he was ever appointed or indeed why he has a reputation for being amusing. He has been the worst part of the show for the last three years.

I wonder who they will get in. Really needs to be female to balance it up.

It surprises me that Matt Lucas and David Walliams seem to have escaped the cancel culture for the ‘I’m a lady’ sketches!

I think they did have to issue an apology of sorts about that. Little Britain was not very funny and did pick on people less privileged than its creators and I don't like it at all. I think Lucas and Williams did sort of acknowledge this at one point. Something like "we would not make that programme today"

yesforone · 07/12/2022 09:21

None of these presenters are funny though, they're so dull ! We need Romesh, he's actually a funny comedian. A rare find these days.

ZaZathecat · 07/12/2022 09:21

'I'm a lady' was one of their less offensive sketches. How about the old people who kept peeing everywhere!

GCAcademic · 07/12/2022 09:22

Good. I'd got to the point where I'd decided to stop watching because of him. I hate the feeling of cringing, and I was doing it every time he opened his mouth.

Darkchocolateandcoffee · 07/12/2022 09:23

Jenny Eclair would be great. I love her.

Katherine Ryan very very funny

Exhausteddog · 07/12/2022 09:25

I didn't think Katherine Ryan worked on the jewellery "bake off" style programme

RudsyFarmer · 07/12/2022 09:27

Thank god. That appointment just didn’t work did it 🤦🏻‍♀️

RudsyFarmer · 07/12/2022 09:28

Oh god NOT Katherine Ryan. I think they should have a good look at Task Master and see which comedians come across as warm and funny. Then pick one of them.

Falalalalaaah · 07/12/2022 09:30

I'd love Romesh! He is great and I think he and Noel would be a great pair

Sproutpie · 07/12/2022 09:31

Judy Love - although I’m not sure about her and NF together?

BatCheeseIsFine · 07/12/2022 09:34

Male or female, they need at least one person with warmth and compassion.

Yes this. It’s not just about being funny, but really caring. Someone genuinely warm and compassionate underneath, even if they are funny. Rylan springs to mind but he’s prob too busy. Andi Oliver, Richard e grant, Joanna lumley. Obviously gone a bit fantasy bake-off there!

ZaZathecat · 07/12/2022 09:34

James Acaster was very funny when he was a contestant, he could be a good choice. Even better if the format could lose the need for cringey contrived sketches at the beginning and the so un-hilarious time checks.

Tirrrrred · 07/12/2022 09:44

Can't understand why they had either of the two.

Although I like Noel.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 07/12/2022 09:44

Oh thank god, he is dire.

knittingaddict · 07/12/2022 09:46

Ellie Taylor please. She was wonderful when she stepped in to present The Great Pottery Throwdown. I need to see her in a similar program.

LadyEloise1 · 07/12/2022 09:47

Oh please not Katherine Ryan.
She annoys me.

If Sarah Millican gets it then I'd never watch again.

Tbh Paul Hollywood is the worst thing about it.

Yes!

MaggieFS · 07/12/2022 09:48

As long as it's not Tom Allen. I've stopped watching Extra Slice because of him and have to run off any show or radio programme he appears on.

He's the one person that would stop me watching it.

Falalalalaaah · 07/12/2022 09:52

No, not Sarah Millican or Katherine Ryan for me either. I think they need someone a bit more low key. I know Sue Perkins had quite a high energy sense of humour, but she did reign it in I think which works better. I think people love Bake Off because it's comforting and sedate. The biggest drama is someone's bread not rising. So it's lovely, calming escapism. If they introduce slightly bonkers, screechy comedians, it ruins the vibe for me.

60smusic · 07/12/2022 08:38

OMG leave my Noel alone ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ if he goes I'm never watching again.

Personally I'd rather it not be a female comedian to replace Matt as they just aren't funny. There's not a hope I could listen to Sarah if they got her.

Noel could do the whole show, hosting, judging, everything..

😲

I read that Noel said he'd miss writing the scripts with Matt! Looks like it's not just bad ad-libbing😱

That is so depressing to read 😞

greenbirdsong · 07/12/2022 09:53

I also wasn't keen on Matt Lucus in this role.

I'd either keep Noel on his own or get someone like Joe Lycett with him.

Not Nadiya or any former contestant, I think the idea is to bring comic relief....well not that I ever laughed much at ML or NF Xmas Confused

TheBelmont · 07/12/2022 09:55

Miranda Hart!

FetlocksBlowingInTheWind · 07/12/2022 09:55

Harry Hill! He does Bake Off Junior (which is amazing) and he does it perfectly.

Also love the Judy Love and James Acaster suggestions.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 07/12/2022 09:55

I doubt she'd do it, because she seems like a home body who wouldn't want to be away from Scotland for long, but I think Susan Calman would be great, I love her.
