Matt Lucas to leave GBBO. Hallelujah!

Sky news reporting tonight that Matt Lucas says he doesn't have time for GBBO anymore, which IMO means he's been asked to leave as he completely unfunny and utterly annoying.

I cannot bear his puerile "antics" on GBBO and am at a loss why he was ever appointed or indeed why he has a reputation for being amusing. He has been the worst part of the show for the last three years.

I wonder who they will get in. Really needs to be female to balance it up.

Agree he was awful. Just not at all funny. I think Noel would be better on his own. I’d love Dawn French to do it.

Get rid of Noel and just have Mel back - she is brilliant on the woodworking show and naturally funny

Matt peaked too soon when he did the impression of Boris Johnson on the very first episode he did, which I thought was very good, but has been completely unfunny ever since.

Mel and Sue seemed interested and knowledgeable about baking, and supportive and sympathetic to the bakers. Matt and Noel seem to find food and baking boring and somehow beneath them, and spend their time making unfunny jokes about the contestants and getting in their way. Jurgen, in last years series, told one of them to go away which was not unreasonable, actually it was funnier than most of their remarks!

If Sarah Millican gets the job, I will stop watching it. If her recent appearance on Taskmaster is anything to go by, it’s ME, ME, ME, POOR ME, ME, ME, ME. And repeat, ad nauseam.
Ellie Taylor would be a good call though. She was great on Throwdown, and her profile’s been raised thanks to appearing on Strictly. I know she wasn’t universally popular, but I loved Sandi presenting it.
Jo Brand would be fabulous, if she wants to do it!

Personally I'd rather it not be a female comedian to replace Matt as they just aren't funny. There's not a hope I could listen to Sarah if they got her.

Noel could do the whole show, hosting, judging, everything..

Good shout on Ellie Taylor. I thought she did a really good job on pottery throw down.

Having considered my post, I really do need to get a more productive and involved hobby, or volunteer for something.

I'm really glad too. I love Noel on this and think he'd be great with Ellie. I was surprised by how much I like her on Throw Down. Bake Off needs warmth in its presenters, not snideness (looking at you Matt).

Somebody who actually seems like they enjoy cake would be a good start. Matt and Noel don't seem to really like baking, Mel and Sue were always hovering around hoping for offcuts/wonky biscuits to try!

I like Matt and Noel together and always got the impression Matt was very kind. I found them funny. I will be sorry to see Matt go.

Paul Hollywood is not my cup of tea. . The idea that his handshake seals the deal and is higher praise than anything the other judge says, is very off too.

I wonder if Bake Off lost ratings and they are trying to shake it up a bit?

When the presenters and judges go over to chat to annoy the competitors as they frantically try to prepare their bakes in the very limited allotted time are those couple of minutes added on at the end to the competitors allotted time ?
Does anybody know ?

I always liked Mel and Sue. I also liked Noel and Sandi together.

I like Matt Lucas and think he seems like quit a decent person, but something about him on Bake Off didn't work. Can't figure out what it is, but I think it's the right thing that he's going.

I'd like them to continue having two hosts. I like the suggestions of Ellie Taylor and Nadiya Hussain. Also French and Saunders would clearly be amazing, but don't imagine they'd have the budget. If they got rid of Paul and brought Mary back if also love that!

I wouldn't like Jenny Eclair. She's a bit too wacky I think. She'd just be another Matt to me

Liam from "GBBO The professionals" would be my choice. He was also a contestant on a previous GGBO series so would understand how the bakers feel.

I really liked Noel and Matt and their daft humor. The only problem was they were not very helpful if a contestant got upset. I fact they looked actively awkward.
Male or female, they need at least one person with warmth and compassion.

I assume the presenters have to follow a script, apart from the interactions with contestants, because I can't see any of the presenters writing such trash themselves, or they'd never have made it in comedy.

It surprises me that Matt Lucas and David Walliams seem to have escaped the cancel culture for the ‘I’m a lady’ sketches!

I read that Noel said he'd miss writing the scripts with Matt! Looks like it's not just bad ad-libbing😱
