THE WHITE LOTUS - s2 MONDAY 9pm sky Atlantic. TV PACE. NO SPOILERS

So lotus is back

s1 was good. About holiday makers in a posh hotel and one died but various other things

quite funny

worth watching s1

there is a thread. Not by me s one

s2 is new cast and a new secret apart from jennifer Coolidge who returns as Tanya along with her lover now hubby

This season, Coolidge's hysterical and hyper-sensitive Tanya McQuoid will be joined by Jon Gries, who reprises his season one role of Tanya's lover turned new husband Greg, and Haley Lu Richardson (The Edge of Seventeen) who plays Portia, her assistant. Oscar-winner F. Murray Abraham (Amadeus), Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos), and Adam DiMarco (The Order) portray Bert, Dominic, and Albie, respectively, three generations of men from the Di Grasso family with three very different approaches to the opposite sex on a trip to Sicily to visit their ancestral home.

Also checking in are two polar opposite couples on vacation together: the prickly, newly-rich, and socially aware Harper and Ethan, played by Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) and Will Sharpe (Landscapers), and the carefree, news-averse, lovey-dovey couple Cameron and Daphne, played by Theo James (The Time Traveler's Wife) and Meghann Fahy (The Bold Type). The separate groups are intertwined when two local girls Mia (Beatrice Granno) and Lucia (Simona Tabasco) find their way into the White Lotus, much to the chagrin of Valentina (Sabrina Impaciatorre), the often flustered manager of the hotel.

Right. I’m going in deep.

Water and boats have been a running theme with Tanya.

IIRC she hired a boat to scatter her mother’s ashes into the sea. Armand double books the boat for the honeymooning couple for their romantic evening. Tanya has a meltdown and can’t scatter the ashes.

But in the final episode we see Tanya in the sea, waist deep, scattering her mother’s ashes as she finally has the confidence to do so and to let go. She’s already said that she had a very difficult relationship with her mother.

So, Season 2. The yacht is a significant setting and Tanya dies in the sea, this reuniting her with her mother. It’s all come full circle.

Greg is a c. though.

DH and I just flew through the series in a couple of nights. I know he turned out to be a villain but Jack is my new TV crush. Something about a filthy Essex boy 😍😬 Sad for Tanya, quite intrigued to see where they go next with it.

Lol at the filthy essex boy

I totally agree Blush

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/12/2022 20:45

Very deep @Roundlampshade

dirty Essex boy 😂

or bad accent actor

he was cute though if I was 20yrs younger

This series was so well cast and acted. When Jack turned up it was like they’d just dropped a real life Essex boy into the mix and stood back to watch what happens.

The kids were definitely not Cameron’s. Daphne says to Harper that she is going to show her a photo of her blond, blue eyed personal trainer but what she shows her is photo of her blond, blue eyed children. It was no mistake.

PuppyMonkey · 17/12/2022 07:42

I don’t understand why people are calling him Bad Accent Boy - I’m from the East Midlands so in no way an expert on Essex accents but he sounded authentic to me. What was bad about his accent? Confused

Delatron · 17/12/2022 08:39

@PuppyMonkey

I think (personally) and a few others on this thread think that they just mean his accent isn’t posh like Quentin and the rest. So not a critique of his Essex accent which seems very good to me.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/12/2022 10:26

To me it was a fake accent

but also know essex talk like that 😂

It was 'fake' in that it's not his actual accent and he's an actor. But it was a good Essex accent.

It's quite snobby really.

PuppyMonkey · 17/12/2022 11:27

Okay, so it sounded as though it was his natural accent - have you heard the actor speaking all posh then in RL or something?

Delatron · 17/12/2022 12:57

No idea what his real life accent is! Or whether he is from Essex and that is how it talks. It’s just a good Essex accent either way and I don’t think people have been critiquing that. Yes maybe being snobby - posh is good Essex is bad kind of view (not my view).

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/12/2022 13:04

He was in vampire academy and totally diff voice which is why I guess I find it a bad accent

Tho he based him self on JOEY essex 😂

OP posts:
Delatron · 17/12/2022 13:14

I thought that was the point though? He was supposed to be a proper Essex boy.

And if it’s not his normal accent then I think he did a good job!

RambamThankyouMam · 17/12/2022 18:23

LOL @ Coconot's MA in Film. Very good, love.

Roundlampshade · 17/12/2022 20:35

Here is Leo Woodall speaking in an interview

PuppyMonkey · 17/12/2022 21:19

Thanks @Roundlampshade nice to hear him au naturelle. Grin

TottersBlankly · 17/12/2022 23:19

Sweet! Thanks for sharing.

lazymum99 · 18/12/2022 09:35

Just watched and listened to the video. He didn’t have to change his accent much! We are obsessed with accents in the UK and what they mean. Don’t know any other country like that. In other countries accent can signify which area you come from but here it is different.

AnImaginaryCat · 18/12/2022 09:36

You know one thing that really bothered me, when Daphne and Ethan walked off to the island, she left her bag next to the sunbed.

(Ethan did similar with his phone another time he was swimming.)

TottersBlankly · 18/12/2022 09:58

Well … The only people allowed on the beach would be other guests (who are too rich to want to steal her suntan lotion and magazine / book) and hotel staff, who probably prefer having a job to being sacked and prosecuted for petty theft.

Would staff prefer their job to a top of the range phone? 🤷🏽‍♀️

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/12/2022 14:53

Yes private beach but I still would hide my phone

FartOutLoudDay · 18/12/2022 16:06

Honestly can’t even watch those clips of Jack - I come over all unnecessary. I’d say he was bob on for that Estuary English accent. But it’s the combo of it with the glint in his eye and the smile in the early episodes. Ooof!

TottersBlankly · 18/12/2022 16:14

What, exactly, will Portia say when the police ask why she left Sicily without her employer? She can legitimately say she didn’t know Tanya had died - Albie can only say he told her ‘someone at the hotel’ was dead, plus people on a boat - but is she going to claim Tanya told her to travel back alone?

Do rather need a couple of follow up episodes!

catfunk · 18/12/2022 22:55

Haven't rtft but to you Jack/ Leo fans know he's been cast as the lead in the Netflix adaptation of 'One Day' 😬

FartOutLoudDay · 18/12/2022 23:17

I did see that, but not sure he’ll have quite the same effect as that character 😆
