THE WHITE LOTUS - s2 MONDAY 9pm sky Atlantic. TV PACE. NO SPOILERS

So lotus is back

s1 was good. About holiday makers in a posh hotel and one died but various other things

quite funny

worth watching s1

there is a thread. Not by me s one

s2 is new cast and a new secret apart from jennifer Coolidge who returns as Tanya along with her lover now hubby

This season, Coolidge's hysterical and hyper-sensitive Tanya McQuoid will be joined by Jon Gries, who reprises his season one role of Tanya's lover turned new husband Greg, and Haley Lu Richardson (The Edge of Seventeen) who plays Portia, her assistant. Oscar-winner F. Murray Abraham (Amadeus), Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos), and Adam DiMarco (The Order) portray Bert, Dominic, and Albie, respectively, three generations of men from the Di Grasso family with three very different approaches to the opposite sex on a trip to Sicily to visit their ancestral home.

Also checking in are two polar opposite couples on vacation together: the prickly, newly-rich, and socially aware Harper and Ethan, played by Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) and Will Sharpe (Landscapers), and the carefree, news-averse, lovey-dovey couple Cameron and Daphne, played by Theo James (The Time Traveler's Wife) and Meghann Fahy (The Bold Type). The separate groups are intertwined when two local girls Mia (Beatrice Granno) and Lucia (Simona Tabasco) find their way into the White Lotus, much to the chagrin of Valentina (Sabrina Impaciatorre), the often flustered manager of the hotel.

I thought it was fantastic. The lack of 'resolution' is part of the theme of the show. Daphne and Cameron, Ethan and Harper don't get happy endings. I was so pleased the scamming murderers were the bodies rather than the Italian girls. Loved their arc! Tanya - well, she was as one of life's victims really despite the money. Easily flattered, easily fooled. With only selfish, useless Portia on her side she didn't stand a chance. Jack was an excellent character- not sure why people questioned his accent, my Essex boy fiancé thought he was spot on.

No, just friends I think

Along with their pimp who was their friend and wonder if they shared the £50k between them

and what a mug paying 50k

totally scammed

but yes I want I know what happened to greg

was he on it

will he get her money

and the one who dived off the boat who escape

I didn't pick up on the children not being Cameron's - was that explicitly said?

TottersBlankly · 13/12/2022 10:11

I think we have to assume Greg was in on Quentin’s evil plan - because how else would the gang gain access to her money once Tanya was dead? Sure, she must have had various credit cards with her - but I imagine the bulk of her apparently vast estate would only be released to a named beneficiary after appropriate procedures. Without Greg the gang would have been better off with Tanya alive and open to years of alternating slime and coercion until they’d scammed every cent out of her. Opera and putting her on a board of trustees would have been a longer but safer route to her piggy bank.

NotSnowedUnder · 13/12/2022 10:15

loved it too, thought it was brilliant though v sad Tanya is dead!

NotSnowedUnder · 13/12/2022 10:17

also that scene where Tanya was still questioning Quentin about Greg while he was dying - was just so Tanya

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 13/12/2022 10:34

Greg was obviously in on the plan. He was furious about Portia being there so Quentin hired jack to remove Portia. She would probably have been killed if she'd gone back. Jack got an attack of the conscience and left her to get to the airport with a warning. Greg was probably only ever after Tanya's money.
The children being the trainer's was implied - they looked like the description she gave. I think we can make up our own minds on that.
The hotel lad/fake pimp would have got a share of the €50k. Probably Mia as well.

Weefreetiffany · 13/12/2022 10:45

Interesting contrast between passive Tanya (even though she grabbed the gun at the end, she didn’t know how to save herself) and the other women using their agency and sexual agency to, as Daphne says, not be victims of life.

SapatSea · 13/12/2022 11:00

Tanya's death dress was also the dress worn by the mannequin in the Godfather car (episode 2?).

So many unanswered questions with Ethan/Cameron/Harper/Daphne. You are right Twiglets perhaps Daphne and Ethan had sex when they diappeared into the trees on the island and that revenge reignited his lust for Harper. Perhaps Harper set up the flirting and doing shots with Cameron and lied about kissing Cameron to Ethan to hurt him because of how he was treating her ( no sex, wouldn't talk about their problems) and to also get back at Cameron ( touching her leg, coming onto her).

Perhaps next season will start with a newly rich Greg arriving at the next White Lotus resort. The producers mentioned in an article that they were considering Asia as a location but the person upthread who recalled that Daphne said that her and Cameron might try the Maldives for a holiday next is also a possibility. I think this season the series has been criticised for lack of diversity. I'm sad that Daphne didn't turn out to be "snake" and a master manipulator.

No, but she goes on about how hunky her trainer is, how Harper should get a trainer, let me show you a picture of the trainer, and she shows her a picture of the kids. Also, they are blonde and Cameron isn't (but that's not uncommon).

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/12/2022 11:44

I know it’s not real life

but do people really have relationships where they shag other people and possibly have kids with their lover but carry on pretending in A relationship

wnats the point

and yes be great to have Greg in Maldives with a young girlfriend in a 3

OP posts:
Onthecuspofabreakthrough · 13/12/2022 11:48

I thought the trainer references were just her showing that she had found a way to cope with his infidelity. Interesting about the photo though - again I'd just thought that was her showing why she didn't just up and leave, but I see it could have another meaning!

maranella · 13/12/2022 11:58

I thought the death of Tanya was so ironic. She was trying not to get killed by the men on the boat, so she killed them first, but then died by accident so Greg got her money anyway. It was clever and I never saw it coming.

Are we meant to think that Lucia and Mia are a couple at the end there?
No! They're just two girls who made a shitload of money off a load of randy, gullible tourists and skip off into the sunshine with it.

Where the hell is Greg?
Greg never had any intention of coming back. His plan was to bump Tanya off and share her money with Quentin (his gay lover presumably).

I took it that Ethan and Daphne had sex on the island too - that's why he got his mojo back with Harper at the end. He no longer felt jealous and angry with her and Cameron, because he got his revenge on them both.

Portia's luggage bugged me too. Who just goes to the airport without their stuff? I'd have called an Uber back to the hotel, packed up my stuff and then gone straight to the airport. But it's TV, they do annoying, nonsensical things there!

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/12/2022 12:02

Tho if Greg was with Quentin wouid he have turned from gay to bisexual in s1 when met her at the hotel

Jack was an excellent character- not sure why people questioned his accent, my Essex boy fiancé thought he was spot on.

I thought he was a great character too and must've been such fun for the actor to play.

TottersBlankly · 13/12/2022 12:40

Jack was an incredibly finely balanced character … No outward aggression (until he shouted) but so dangerous. And, and, and - remember how Portia, with all her easy good fortune and privilege was just completely bored with life? Jack was the opposite. He told her Quentin had pulled him out of a deep hole - we see that since then he’s been ‘grateful’ for every second of life, no matter what he has to do to cling on to it. Quite prepared to take on any nasty job and get the most enjoyment out of it. Portia didn’t know what she was looking for; Jack simply knew what he was running from.

Netaporter · 13/12/2022 13:05

I’m from Essex and did smile at the references to ‘Bad accent guy’ it’s literally THE accent here of people Jack’s age and profile 😂

SapatSea · 13/12/2022 13:37

I thought maybe "bad accent guy" didn't mean Jack actor had a bad Essex accent but that viewers thought his accent was a bad match for Quentin's upper class, posh English accent as his uncle - when really his Essex accent was telling us that Quentin wasn't Jack's uncle ( and maybe playing on the alleged belief that Americans can't tell the difference between British accents, so Tanya and Portia wouldn't pick up that Jack and Quentin were unlikely to be related)

Puppypower83 · 13/12/2022 13:52

I agree with others that Daphne’s kids are not Cameron’s! Daphne showing the photo of her blond, blue eyed kids that matched the description of her trainer and Cameron aggressively flossing his teeth and reluctantly saying hello to the kids on the video call at the end confirmed it for us! He looked like he resented having to talk to them, because he knows they aren’t his!

Yes I think this. They don’t mean a bad Essex accent- it’s just not a posh accent so stands out.

I thought the Jack character was so well done. When he was pissed and singing, then the hungover/ red glazed eye look. That got more unnerving as we realised what was going on. I would have never got in the car with him! But pleased he left her by the airport. I was convinced he was going to kill her as he’d been ordered to. ‘His work’ so to say.

I was also convinced Tanya wouldn’t die - I kept telling DH she was signed up to series 3! So that was another shock.

I assumed Ethan and Daphne had sex due to the luring away - her seductive glances over her shoulder.. Then his renewed vigour for Harper as he’s no longer angry.

Just brilliant. Off to the watch the first episode again…

Ineedtocleanmywoodenblinds · 13/12/2022 14:17

I loved the ending, Tanya on the boat with Quentin was so tense. Sad she died but she was awful to the lady in the spa in S1 so not so sad.

Harper, Ethan, Daphne and Cameron - thought it was great and like the ambiguity in all their relationships.

The bit at the end with Albie and Porsha exchanging numbers really made me laugh.

Lucia and Mia were so great and I loved that Valentina and Dominic sort of got their happy ending (or beginning) too.

maranella · 13/12/2022 16:24

Oh God! I hadn't realised Jack was supposed to kill Portia, but you're right, of course he was. I'd (naively) thought his job was just to keep her out of the way, but if she lived that would've been a loose end. That's why he didn't want her to go back to the hotel - he didn't want Quentin finding out that he hadn't done 'his job' and killed her. God I'm thick sometimes 😂

Roarsomemore · 13/12/2022 17:40

@TottersBlankly I knew all that information about the characters but hadn't put it together like that. Loving this thread

readwritelove · 13/12/2022 18:40

What will become of Jack now?

Also, it was a bit careless of Quentin to leave that Greg cowboy photo around, wasn’t it, especially as she was lured to that room?
