New 4 part drama on over 2weeks

The House Across the Street follows Claudia, a reclusive woman who becomes increasingly obsessed with the case of a missing child who lived nearby.

The official Channel 5 synopsis explains that “when a young child in her community goes missing, Claudia becomes embroiled in the case and fixated on uncovering the truth - however, her fascination quickly begins to turn to obsession, not only with what happened to Emily, but also with the Winter family at the heart of the case.”

As her obsession grows, Claudia starts a relationship with George, a teacher at the school she works in – but gets pulled deeper and deeper into a deceptively complex mystery.

Shirley Henderson plays Claudia, the reclusive nurse who starts to obsess over a missing child. Henderson is a prolific actor, she’s perhaps best known, though, for her roles in the Harry Potter film series

Craig Parkinson plays George, the teacher who starts a relationship with Claudia. Parkinson is best known for his role in Line of Duty, where he played the bent copper ‘Dot’ Cottan,

Owen and Sabine Winter, parents of missing child Emily, are played by Ian-Lloyd Anderson (Game of Thrones, Derek) and Lisa Dwyer Hogg (Silent Witness, The Irregulars).

They’re joined by Sara Powell (Doctor Who, Death in Paradise), Ronan Leahy (Batman Begins), and Luke Griffin (1893) amongst others. Myah Mason plays Emily Winter, the missing child.

It's a busy night for me on tv tonight. 3 things to watch at the same time! A rarity.

TheChosenTwo · 25/10/2022 15:20

I’m nearly at the end of episode 3, I just really don’t understand wtf is going on.
The whispering woman is getting right on my tits. She’s meant to be creepy I think but she’s just weird.

I don't think anyone understands wtf is going on.

There's whispering.
There's lots of rushing around the estate
There's lots of the whispering woman hanging on people and near miss kissing
There's a couple of kids
There's a wide variety of peculiar sounds
And dolls.

That's it. That's all I'm getting.

AmyFl · 25/10/2022 17:30

Is tonight the final episode?

JemimaTab · 25/10/2022 17:32

The biting thing is odd. If there were bite marks on the body, surely it would be pretty clear whether they were adult or child bites?
It’s certainly quite a strange series, but I’m quite intrigued. The main character is very peculiar indeed, and the fact that she’s constantly trying to insert herself into the girl’s and her parents’ lives is disturbing. But I genuinely don’t know quite where it’s all going, which is a first as normally these things are fairly formulaic and predictable.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/10/2022 18:59

Yes final tonight. But I will watch Tom so again will avoid thread from 9

hoping Emily will return. That she wasn’t kidnapped or killed

Is the Shirley Henderson character some type of super-empath with zero impulse control? Constant boundary breaking, no sense of propriety. The character takes 'up close and personal' to a whole new level. Hideous.

I'm watching this out of curiosity now - probably missing lots because I can't keep my eyes on the screen it's too uncomfortable.

Wonder whether the book this is based on is more subtle.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/10/2022 20:38

Christ knows. She def gets into your personal space tho

Increasingly thinking I'll end up reading the book trying to work out what it was that was going on.

AmyFl · 25/10/2022 20:47

Only 15 minutes to go! (Excited)

JemimaTab · 25/10/2022 20:50

I didn’t realise it was based on a book. Does anyone have the title/author?

daffodilandtulip · 25/10/2022 21:44

Just weird.

AmyFl · 25/10/2022 22:00

😐

Violashift · 25/10/2022 22:01

Oh my

daffodilandtulip · 25/10/2022 22:01

I love the "if you have been affected by issues raised...". Yeah we all have a kid who killed a sibling and a mate who took the rap for our murder 😵‍💫

lazymum99 · 25/10/2022 22:02

Not exactly happy ever after then.
one of the oddest series I’ve seen

nilsmousehammer · 25/10/2022 22:07

Highly bizarre and not in an arty, good, edgy way.

Most of the last two episodes were watched on fast forward in the hope of some kind of ending that made the rest make sense.

(It didn't.)

Romeiswheretheheartis · 25/10/2022 22:07

I really don't get it- what was the point of her son biting her? Why did she put those clothes on? Who sent that card signed G? Why any of it really?!!

Violashift · 25/10/2022 22:12

Maybe she thought her cancer was back but still the obsession with the family.... Not thinking about the consequences of her own son.

Who was G that wrote the creepy message?

TheChosenTwo · 25/10/2022 23:01

So I’m guessing by the comments since the last episode aired that it’s really not worth finishing 😂

Twonewcats · 25/10/2022 23:11

I have very little clue what it all meant.

Spoiler if you've not watched yet -

A child being the killer in dramas is almost too predictable nowadays

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 25/10/2022 23:14

I don't understand.
Any of it.
Just why?
Why?

AtSomePointInLife · 25/10/2022 23:15

I'm glad it's over, Shirley Henderson was just too uncomfortable to watch.
