New 4 part drama on over 2weeks

The House Across the Street follows Claudia, a reclusive woman who becomes increasingly obsessed with the case of a missing child who lived nearby.

The official Channel 5 synopsis explains that “when a young child in her community goes missing, Claudia becomes embroiled in the case and fixated on uncovering the truth - however, her fascination quickly begins to turn to obsession, not only with what happened to Emily, but also with the Winter family at the heart of the case.”

As her obsession grows, Claudia starts a relationship with George, a teacher at the school she works in – but gets pulled deeper and deeper into a deceptively complex mystery.

Shirley Henderson plays Claudia, the reclusive nurse who starts to obsess over a missing child. Henderson is a prolific actor, she’s perhaps best known, though, for her roles in the Harry Potter film series

Craig Parkinson plays George, the teacher who starts a relationship with Claudia. Parkinson is best known for his role in Line of Duty, where he played the bent copper ‘Dot’ Cottan,

Owen and Sabine Winter, parents of missing child Emily, are played by Ian-Lloyd Anderson (Game of Thrones, Derek) and Lisa Dwyer Hogg (Silent Witness, The Irregulars).

They’re joined by Sara Powell (Doctor Who, Death in Paradise), Ronan Leahy (Batman Begins), and Luke Griffin (1893) amongst others. Myah Mason plays Emily Winter, the missing child.

I was surprised at the couple who've lost their wee girl having sex in the living room, when they have an older son. But I also thought Claudia having sex with a near stranger while her son was in the flat was very odd too.

Especially when the stranger is also her sons tutor and he was probably well aware of what may be happening!

Maybe I’ll keep watching I’m clearly invested in the stupidness of it all!!

Yes the adopted boy (in the wheelchair)’s Dad is the one who doesn’t like the dolls, so his wife/partner has to keep them in the shed, I think that’s who he is anyway.

AnnieP1 · 19/10/2022 18:27

Just watched the second episode. It really is another level of weird isn't it? And the voice oh the voice!!

40 mins into episode one and I’ve switched off…. Slow and boring!

Yep me too. I'm not usually a quitter but I can't carry on with this

nilsmousehammer · 19/10/2022 21:12

Episode 2 gets no better.....

foxlover47 · 19/10/2022 21:53

When is the last episode is it next Monday ?

littleChina · 19/10/2022 22:11

Not sure I can stand anymore of this. Shirley Henderson’s character is utterly weird and unwatchable

What a load of rubbish. I can't bear her voice either.

I can't either, it's ridiculous, surely that's not her normal voice? I know she's the same in everything but I'm sure it's affected.

I lost interest when she took the girl home and dropped her at the gate and left. As if 🙄

I ended up turning it off and I watch any old shite!

purpleme12 · 19/10/2022 22:28

Watched yesterday's episode

Her bit her but then there was like no reaction from her!

She said if you tell me who it was who did this to you, you can go to your dad's, yet he didn't tell her but she allowed him to go anyway!

I hate it. Some of the acting is terrible and feels stiff and wooden. It just feels badly written. The characters' behaviour, and just the whole feel of it, is not at all believable, except for Emily's dad who is excellent. Oh, and the actor that was in Line of Duty. It would have been so much better not to have everything over dramatised, especially the stupid music, because it really doesn't go well with the slow pace. Not sure if they're trying to copy Scandi noir but it is not working at all. They would have been better with a Broadchurch vibe. Instead it all feels wrong and not like real life at all. And it all looks like done on the cheap really.

purpleme12 · 19/10/2022 23:04

I'm enjoying it still
Anytime else or just me... 😂

CurlyhairedAssassin · 19/10/2022 23:10

And where is this fictitious state primary school that has a school nurse there all the time! Oh and the sex scene with her and Line of Duty bloke. Hasn't she supposed to have had a mastectomy? Yet it wasn't even mentioned. There was no awkwardness or hesitation or shyness about it on her part, and he didn't bat an eye lid. Just not true to life. I know it's a work of fiction but....

CurlyhairedAssassin · 19/10/2022 23:12

And why does she talk in whispers? Stop with the Myrtle act, woman! School nurses are quite assertive and confident in my experience. I'd better stop now cos it's totally winding me up.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 19/10/2022 23:19

Oh god I can't stop - the bike! I thought it was missing? Could have had DNA or other evidence on it so why did the dad just take it round the back like he was putting it away for the night?

foxlover47 · 20/10/2022 02:29

@CurlyhairedAssassin I feel I was where you are and then I realised it wasn't on again until next Monday 🙈🤣

I think is is her real voice, I recognised it immediately as being similar to how she talked in Happy Valley where she played a similarly weird person, I haven't seen Harry Potter
