New 4 part drama on over 2weeks

The House Across the Street follows Claudia, a reclusive woman who becomes increasingly obsessed with the case of a missing child who lived nearby.

The official Channel 5 synopsis explains that “when a young child in her community goes missing, Claudia becomes embroiled in the case and fixated on uncovering the truth - however, her fascination quickly begins to turn to obsession, not only with what happened to Emily, but also with the Winter family at the heart of the case.”

As her obsession grows, Claudia starts a relationship with George, a teacher at the school she works in – but gets pulled deeper and deeper into a deceptively complex mystery.

Shirley Henderson plays Claudia, the reclusive nurse who starts to obsess over a missing child. Henderson is a prolific actor, she’s perhaps best known, though, for her roles in the Harry Potter film series

Craig Parkinson plays George, the teacher who starts a relationship with Claudia. Parkinson is best known for his role in Line of Duty, where he played the bent copper ‘Dot’ Cottan,

Owen and Sabine Winter, parents of missing child Emily, are played by Ian-Lloyd Anderson (Game of Thrones, Derek) and Lisa Dwyer Hogg (Silent Witness, The Irregulars).

They’re joined by Sara Powell (Doctor Who, Death in Paradise), Ronan Leahy (Batman Begins), and Luke Griffin (1893) amongst others. Myah Mason plays Emily Winter, the missing child.

Haven't read the thread as started watching it last night but fell asleep twice during the first 30 mins so need to rewatch 🙄. Found it slow or is it just because I was really tired! Wondering whether to persevere

Shirley Henderson doesn’t age!

Looks ageing to me.

SaltedCaramelIcedLatte · 23/10/2022 16:48

Claudia is extremely odd and annoying! I don't understand why she didn't call the police when she saw him leave the bike!

Alertthecorgis · 24/10/2022 13:12

Fucking hell, I’ve just started the first one and it’s weird. That woman’s voice is very irritating. Everyone’s behaviour is just odd.

nilsmousehammer · 24/10/2022 13:48

So far actual, meaningful plot would take up about five minutes. This whole series could have been 20 minutes long.

The tee heeing as she walked away at the end of the last episode was one of the many fgs what's on the other channels moments.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 24/10/2022 13:58

Very very weird! Who on earth would tell the father of a murdered child 'I've cried more than anyone', or approach the mum at her place of work like she did. And such bizarre interactions with her son! I thought I'd given up after ep 1, but then ended up watching ep 2 at the weekend so think I'm going to see it through.....

Zippedydoo123 · 24/10/2022 15:20

Yes she is a strange character.

Umanresources · 24/10/2022 21:32

Oh I am disliking this woman more and more.

notsosilent · 24/10/2022 21:45

Umanresources · 24/10/2022 21:32

Oh I am disliking this woman more and more.

Me too. She makes me feel so uncomfortable, I'm trying to best to continue with it but I'm struggling!

AmyFl · 24/10/2022 21:49

I think she has some sort of personality disorder?

Umanresources · 24/10/2022 22:01

Well, she went full Moaning Myrtle mode then! Sheesh.

nilsmousehammer · 24/10/2022 22:02

Ferlipping heck......

fgs dive down the plughole woman.

foxlover47 · 24/10/2022 22:15

This is very confusing

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 24/10/2022 22:18

Do we think her DS has killed the little girl and Moany Minnie is covering for him?

Clawdy · 24/10/2022 22:19

Amazing how she manages to gain access to every house and snoop around!
She's right to be worried about Imogen though - can't believe the school staff would just be shrugging it off as they are doing.

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 24/10/2022 22:32

Her weird sounds and heavy breathing is getting on my bloody nerves. 'Oh' 'er' 'ah' 'ew'

Umanresources · 24/10/2022 22:37

Didn’t her son bite her last week? Where were the tooth marks found this week? The information from the other school where George taught were very quick at handing out information/gossip to her and why wasn’t her Headteacher ask why she was lurking round the corner? So many questions .

PinkFrogss · 24/10/2022 22:39

Can’t decide whether to watch tonight’s episode on catch up and these posts are not convincing me Grin

It’s a shame as the premise of the show was good, and Channel 5 did a good job with Maxine the other week

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 24/10/2022 22:59

Why does she get so close to everyone, breathing them in? She's like an annoying little limpet.

Notmenottodaynotever · 24/10/2022 23:17

No school would shrug off the injuries Imogen is having.

Twonewcats · 25/10/2022 07:37

This has to be the weirdest thing I've ever watched

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/10/2022 08:47

Just catching up now. Haven’t read replies but I’m 5mins in and they mention a bite mark

assume it’s her son that did it and she is covering

be interesting if you all think the same

OP posts:
RedRiverShore2 · 25/10/2022 09:12

I did wonder if the son was a red herring as the mentions of the bite was very obvious.

ahunf · 25/10/2022 09:59

I'm halfway through episode 2. I missed the son biting her. Was that episode 1 or 2?

This actress seems wrong. She seems too old for this character. I've noticed she's not even 60 but looks older like the boys nan. Why would dot be into her? Her voice, weirdness. Doesn't add up.
