New 4 part drama on over 2weeks

The House Across the Street follows Claudia, a reclusive woman who becomes increasingly obsessed with the case of a missing child who lived nearby.

The official Channel 5 synopsis explains that “when a young child in her community goes missing, Claudia becomes embroiled in the case and fixated on uncovering the truth - however, her fascination quickly begins to turn to obsession, not only with what happened to Emily, but also with the Winter family at the heart of the case.”

As her obsession grows, Claudia starts a relationship with George, a teacher at the school she works in – but gets pulled deeper and deeper into a deceptively complex mystery.

Shirley Henderson plays Claudia, the reclusive nurse who starts to obsess over a missing child. Henderson is a prolific actor, she’s perhaps best known, though, for her roles in the Harry Potter film series

Craig Parkinson plays George, the teacher who starts a relationship with Claudia. Parkinson is best known for his role in Line of Duty, where he played the bent copper ‘Dot’ Cottan,

Owen and Sabine Winter, parents of missing child Emily, are played by Ian-Lloyd Anderson (Game of Thrones, Derek) and Lisa Dwyer Hogg (Silent Witness, The Irregulars).

They’re joined by Sara Powell (Doctor Who, Death in Paradise), Ronan Leahy (Batman Begins), and Luke Griffin (1893) amongst others. Myah Mason plays Emily Winter, the missing child.

Oh I really didn't like it
Thought everyone was just really odd in terms of behaviour and watching her in particular just made me feel uncomfortable.

Wingedharpy · 17/10/2022 22:57

Same here @karmalama .
Just odd and not holding my interest.

purpleme12 · 17/10/2022 23:05

Oh it's holding my interest

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 17/10/2022 23:26

I'm just watching this now and it is so weird. Why does she keep sniffing the men?

Wingedharpy · 17/10/2022 23:39

Pheromones @RichardOsmansXraySpecs ?

This feels like a book I've read but I can't quite remember...

Yes it sounds like an American book but it's not the date. I think that was called the woman in the window.

lazymum99 · 14/10/2022 19:58

this one definitely looks like my cup of tea!
I think there has been a book of that name, but different story. Not sure

I thought it was the Lesley Pearse book.

Clawdy · 18/10/2022 08:18

The Lesley Pearse book has a completely different storyline, so not sure if this tv drama is book based.

purpleme12 · 18/10/2022 08:50

I don't think it is because it's usually in one of the descriptions when it is and I haven't seen it in any description

Zingy123 · 18/10/2022 09:02

What a load of rubbish. I can't bear her voice either.

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/10/2022 10:48

Def not as good as i hoped

her voice does annoy me

talk in a normal voice

saying she doesn’t want it to be over

she’s nuts !!

I didn't know what t think of it TBH - slow, strange (though normally I have a lot of tolerance for "strange"), and Claudia is very creepy . . .

I'll reserve judgement until I watch another episode.

purpleme12 · 18/10/2022 10:55

Well I'm really liking it so far!

I'm talking about a book called The New Home by Chris Merritt

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/10/2022 13:34

I will watch another

its rare for me to give up

thondid on the walk in

Gave up after 40 minutes, couldn't even bother to finish the episode. One of the worst things I've seen and Henderson is just annoying. Can she not play anyone else but Myrtle 🙄

nilsmousehammer · 18/10/2022 15:20

I gave up before the end too, and I usually like Henderson.

Bored to death now with gloomy, arty 'missing child' dramas with well known actors wandering about looking tragic, which spend hours vaguely shaggy dogging and then finish without any actual plot or conclusion. 'The Missing' was infuriating like that.

I threw in the towel on that as well.

foxlover47 · 18/10/2022 17:27

Half way through then came here to see if it gets any less boring

Notmenottodaynotever · 18/10/2022 18:38

That shed of dolls was creepy as hell

RedRiverShore2 · 18/10/2022 19:30

I'm quite enjoying it, though Shirley Henderson's voice is annoying, though I think it is her own voice as she sounded the same in Happy Valley and played a similar weird character

BigSandyBalls2015 · 18/10/2022 21:13

I’m 5 min in to last nights … her voice is winding me up.

ilovebrie8 · 18/10/2022 21:28

She is weird! Obsessive and her voice is grating...what was she digging last night is the woods when she was searching?

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 18/10/2022 21:30

It's winding me up too, she's so annoying.
What is actually happening? It's very slow isn't it? Just her skulking around acting incredibly strange. I mean she'd be number one suspect in real life.

lazymum99 · 18/10/2022 21:33

She is soooo weird. I don’t even know what her motive is.
Those dolls are scary
