Was on Friday night , bbc one and stars Daisy May Cooper ( this country , taskmasters)

Thought I'd start a spoiler thread as it's all on the I player and I know a few of us have binged it!
I did love this. It had an unusual manic start , but it grew in me and seeing the different episodes through a different lens was clever
I felt sorry for her with Alex and how easy it was for her to fall for his charms.

Just binge watched it. Wasn't too sure to begin with but actually a really clever series.
So many twists and full of strange, damaged characters.

Only character I wasn't sure about was Lucy. Didn't really seem to sit with the with the rest of the plot. Was kind of expecting her to be "Amanda" from Motherland and to get bumped off by crazy Jen but her storyline didn't really go anywhere.

Loved it especially once I managed to get passed "Kerry"!!! Grin

I quite liked Lucy but agree felt like her storyline was just getting started. Whatever other drama from the train incident and backstory to Jen etc a season 2 would have to offer, I would really enjoy it for the Jen/Nic/Lucy dynamic that felt like it was just forming!

Also lots of chat about DMC on here but hadn't realised until a few episodes in that it was co-written by both Daisy May Cooper and Selin Hizli... hadn't seen her in anything before but I really loved her, and they must be a great writing team... definitely both very talented!

I'm a bit confused about the timeline too.

If Dan was showing pictures of the girl in the shop to his brother then how come all this time (a year later?) Dan is still in the picture? I thought he was just after a shag?

I'm only saying Dan is Dean because someone else above mentioned it I'm not 100% sure it is though.

I absolutely loved this series though. The ending was a brilliant twist.

MytummydontjigglejiggleItfolds · 30/09/2022 18:10

At Ollie's 8th birthday Dan was showing Alex pictures of shop girl.
We know Alex dies soon after.
I think Dan probably (?) got distracted by Alex dying/grieving for him etc and only started things up again with shop girl a while later.
Hence them shagging/not shagging around Ollie's 9th birthday.

piffle123 · 30/09/2022 18:15

I'm going to have to watch it again now to pick up on all the clues! 😂

Crustyjuggler92 · 30/09/2022 19:14

I just can't work out how Alex got hit by the other train. He was presumably being dragged along the platform - where did the other train come from? Surely there wouldn't have been time to switch track to allow a train to pass on that side before he fell to the ground? I loved it but my brain can't make this make sense!

the80sweregreat · 30/09/2022 19:19

If this was Eastenders, Alex might not be dead ...

Bound to be a S2

AJ2009 · 30/09/2022 20:58

Ah thank you tummy that does make sense

Jibbajabba1 · 30/09/2022 21:09

From what I remember Dan isn’t Dean - Dean sounds more the shop girls age group.
Also I remember them saying if Dean carry’s ok she will end up sleeping with that married guy, to get back at him.

Jibbajabba1 · 30/09/2022 21:10

*if Dean is carrying on with some other girl

MytummydontjigglejiggleItfolds · 30/09/2022 22:17

But that married guy wears superdry doesn't he? I didn't spy any superdry on Dan 👀

I am now clinically obsessed

Jibbajabba1 · 30/09/2022 23:02

Oooh does he? Yup may warrant a rewatch!

CaptainMyCaptain · 01/10/2022 08:24

I wouldn't recognise superdry if I saw it so that would be lost on me.

Jimsbooks · 01/10/2022 09:44

I am afraid I have very little to add. Ollie is a fantastic actor. Daisy May Cooper seems to enjoy writing horrible characters for herself. I loved how the two young women in the shop were younger versions of Nic and Jen.

You probably would, they are anything but shy about their branding! Most superdry has “superdry” in huge neon letters!

the80sweregreat · 01/10/2022 11:39

I didn't agree that Daisy looks anything like the late Ronnie Barker on another thread , but her facial expressions reminds me of him sometimes , especially her outraged face in this! It's uncanny , but she doesn't look like him.
He was a good actor though and could have been big in Hollywood apparently.
She is one of many great lady writers / actors emerging in the arts.
Dh is watching in real time. I've binged it and it's weird watching it second time around

Some stations have multiple platforms and multiple lines so as soon as you leave the platform you're into multi lines with trains passing in opposite directions.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 01/10/2022 14:14

Some of them have a platform kinda in the middle and fast trains pass behind the platform as they don't stop at that station.

LilyPAnderson · 01/10/2022 14:33

>> Yes Jen threw it, but she was videoing the date, and Nic was watching a video on her phone <<

Can you please tell me what episode that happened in? I was falling in and out of sleep while watching it online and missed that part where Nic was watching the video.

MytummydontjigglejiggleItfolds · 01/10/2022 20:13

Episode 1 Nic is watching a video whilst sitting on the bench in the graveyard, but it's not Jen's video.
She says 'throw the wine on her' or something like that, I think it's the TV show she had to turn off to take Ollie to school, with the narcissists and pigs 😆 Probably real housewives of somewhere or other type thing.
I think you see Jen's side of throwing wine on Dan in episode 4

LilyPAnderson · 02/10/2022 02:48

Thank you. I think I will rewatch the whole series to pick up what I missed.
The ending really shook me, how cruel Alex was. I know he didn't deserve what happened, but I still had sympathy for her needing to create a fantasy version.

Witchcraftandhokum · 02/10/2022 06:46

The whole thing was completely spoilled for me by having the kid kill the cat. What a horrible little shit.

Breathmiller · 02/10/2022 07:57

Loved this! Binged it iver 2 nights. Was a real mix of dark, clever and funny. Kind of realised where it was going just before the reveal.
There really wasn't one character who wasn't an arsehole or complex. Suzie maybe?
It did remind me of fleabag, very cleverly written but different enough to not feel a copy.

I couldn't figure out what DMC character did at the end. Did she confess all standing at the memorial? Or was she just remembering?

I also wondered why she wasn't arrested at the time. Why didn't the kids in the train say what happened? Unless it was all a bit of a blur and they didn't see it all or realise she had done it deliberately. Although DMC thought/presumed they had been aware of her guilty hence them "haunting" her.
