Was on Friday night , bbc one and stars Daisy May Cooper ( this country , taskmasters)

Thought I'd start a spoiler thread as it's all on the I player and I know a few of us have binged it!
I did love this. It had an unusual manic start , but it grew in me and seeing the different episodes through a different lens was clever
I felt sorry for her with Alex and how easy it was for her to fall for his charms.

OP posts:

I couldn't figure out what DMC character did at the end. Did she confess all standing at the memorial? Or was she just remembering? I think she was just remembering it and facing up to it herself rather than believing the fantasy version.

I also wondered why she wasn't arrested at the time. Why didn't the kids in the train say what happened? In her original fantasy version flashback she looked up and they had gone. I don't know if that was true or wishful thinking on her part. She was haunted by the possibility that they might have seen.

I do need to watch again though.

MytummydontjigglejiggleItfolds · 02/10/2022 08:55

In the true/rainy version the kids saw.
But they might not have understood what they saw? They were laughing about it too then just looked uncomprehending when he died. They might not have suspected/seen enough to know it was murder. Or might not have come forward to talk to the police. So she just know they're out there somewhere as witnesses...

I keep remembering how she was going to pull the safety lever then he called her a stupid bitch and she just, didn't.

TrufflesForBreakfast · 02/10/2022 09:32

I binged this yesterday and it's left me with so many questions that I've had to find this thread. As another poster said, I now feel even more confused.

Was the scene where the train had started moving, and Nic did pull the cord, where he was left dangling (he said he couldn't touch the ground so it must have left the platform by then) and then he was hit by a train, all a fabrication too? Was it an additional fantasy that she had created where she told herself that if she had pulled the cord he would have died anyway by the passing train?

The bat story was definitely a random reference to the Mumsnet Bat from years ago!

Breathmiller · 02/10/2022 13:18

mytummy yes that's what i think.

LilyPAnderson · 02/10/2022 13:30

>>The bat story was definitely a random reference to the Mumsnet Bat from years ago!<<

I was wondering why she was going on about a bat. I need to look that up.

MytummydontjigglejiggleItfolds · 02/10/2022 14:31

@TrufflesForBreakfast

I guess because Alex died, that is not something Nic can deny to herself.

But in the fantasy she did everything right, she pulled the cord, they loved each other and it was just a freak accident.

Much more soothing to the psyche than what really happened!

From what I remember Dan isn’t Dean - Dean sounds more the shop girls age group.
Also I remember them saying if Dean carry’s ok she will end up sleeping with that married guy, to get back at him.

Maybe Dan is 'that other guy'.

CreateOne · 02/10/2022 14:47

I think I will rewatch it, I have never felt the need to do that before.

Alwaystired99 · 02/10/2022 18:17

This definitely was way darker than I was expecting; I had to fast forward the cat video reveal.
It's a rare programme where the atmosphere and mood follows me around all day like a bad dream but this one manages it.
The bat story was welcome light relief and I loved how Lucy went from seemingly stuck up cow to possibly the most likeable/ sympathetic character.
Not sure I could manage a rewatch though.
DMC is very talented.

Goldenbear · 02/10/2022 19:00

I rarely

Goldenbear · 02/10/2022 19:04

Want to rewatch but feel the same. I don't think any of the characters came off well but from rewatching I did not that Dan does keep saying that he stated he was married on the dating app to Jen. I am wondering whether he had an inkling especially after 7 years of an affair and started to stray. At first he really reminds me of DH looks as well as character so I felt a bit bad when his character was revealed 😅

Goldenbear · 02/10/2022 19:06

I didd note not 'not'

TitsInAbsentia · 02/10/2022 20:53

I am going to have to watch it all again because I still have questions...it might not answer them but, what the hell! Like how did neither of the two youngsters (that DMC kept seeing) reported the incident etc.

DAISY!! Are we getting S2?

She didn’t see them did she? I thought she imagined them.

LilyPAnderson · 03/10/2022 00:57

Wasn't the last version in her mind the real one, where the youngsters kissing on the platform was what she wished her and Alex had been doing, and she kept imagining them before because she kept trying to pretend they weren't the ones really kissing?
I don't think she revealed what happened at the memorial. I think the real version was in her mind, while she couldn't think of the best things to say to the audience.

Tootels · 03/10/2022 06:46

I didn't like any of the characters. The main 3 just constantly lied.

I think this too.

hockeygrass · 03/10/2022 08:07

@Tootels , the series is inspired by AIBU on MN, when you read that section it's full of cheating men and unsettling domestic situations.
Yes Series 2 is mentioned on the Friends will be friends podcast on BBC sounds with DMC and Selin.

Tootels · 03/10/2022 08:08

I know it's said to be but I didn't get any of the references apart from the title.

GottaGetOutofDairy · 03/10/2022 08:12

I thought the biggest link to AIBU is the drip feed of perspectives?

You can see it now...

AIBU to reset being stuck with my husband after the love of my life died?
...drip feed to it being an affair with his brother
... drip feed to husband regularly cheating on tinder etc
... drip feed to the love of her life never really loving her
... drip feed to her standing by as he died instead of helping him

hockeygrass · 03/10/2022 08:17

It's worth listening to the podcast as DMC talks about a thread where the poster used MN as her support to take her out of a long term abusive situation. The strength of the women supporting the poster inspired and moved DMC. I'm sure we've all read threads that have moved us and stayed in our heads for a while, a bit like the Tv series.

Mooserp · 03/10/2022 14:05

I've watched it a 2nd time and noticed some things I missed on first viewing. The toggle she kept in her pocket was one thing, and I hadn't realised that was why she freaked out so much about her coat going missing.

Oh yes!

Lol true. Maybe also the strange mum at son's school who copies your clothes, and then finding out she lied about living in a nicer area.

However I wonder if any MN posters have all those problems at once? Plus the cat murdering son, to top it off. I think my advice would be that her family is beyond help, but then I'm no psychologist.

LilyPAnderson · 03/10/2022 20:24

It's a good advert for this website.
I only came on here because I thought that if anybody is talking about the series, then it will be on here. I never used this site much before.
Now I realise it can be as crazy as the TV show.
