We are looking for a new drama to watch. We loved the Scandi ones and also Spiral the French police show - what is similar and as good? It doesn’t have to have subtitles but for some reason we always prefer the foreign ones.

I’ve recently started Sisterhood, which is set in Iceland (it’s on Walter Presents) - very gripping.

Does anyone remember the name of a series which started as if it was going to be a police procedural, with a girl being abducted from by a river at their holiday home but then gradually went weird, with people being absorbed into the forest.
Norwegian, I think.
Really absorbing.

Was that black spot? There was a forest monster in that I think?

Enjoyed s3 ep1 of wisting and wondering if to watch season 1-2 first. Or watch later if I sn already spoiled by watching any of season 3.

I've watched Series 1 and 2 in order and haven't started 3 yet. There are some running storylines from 1 to 2 to do with his home life and work colleagues so probably worth pausing and watching Series 1 next.

I’m watching Arctic Circle and quite enjoying it although I did think the two men with neatly trimmed beards (the virologist and the other one) were the same person for quite a while which confused me! The problems of watching in bed on laptop and not paying enough attention.

does anyone have any other recommendations- I’ve watched way to much Scandi Noir though I do love it

I found Arctic Circle a bit of a mixed bag. It’s worth a watch though. I thought some of the non-Finnish cast weren’t great, and it did sort of peter out at the ending, but I was fascinated by the location.

KittyMcKitty · 16/11/2022 06:14

Yes agree it did just sort of end without a resolution of any kind!

I finished s3 wisting. Which was like a season of 2 halves, second one very different and containing lots of English.
Will try and watch 1:2 now.

Did try the Iceland one but after 2 mins the subtitles were very small. So not one to watch casually before I am a celebrity, but to sit close to tv and focus.

There are bits regarding the family that perhaps need explaining in Wisting if you don't watch in order. The omnipresent daughter (kind of like Cully in Midsummer Murders) Not hugely essential but useful maybe.

I really enjoyed Wisting. I tried Arctic Circle but gave up as 10 episodes about a virus felt a bit much. I watched one set around Lake Annecy about a virus which was ok as the scenery was beautiful but all that snow didn't do it for me.

@DameHelena I also loved Nordic Murders and thought it would be nice to visit Usedom. I'd never heard of it before and it looks a beautiful place.
The stories and characters were good. It was actually the very first European crime drama I'd watched and now I'm hooked!
