We are looking for a new drama to watch. We loved the Scandi ones and also Spiral the French police show - what is similar and as good? It doesn’t have to have subtitles but for some reason we always prefer the foreign ones.

Just started watching The Lorenskog Disappearance on Netflix.

i think it’s just come out.

Based on true events.

only 5 episodes so it won’t take me long…

I also enjoyed The Investigation which was based on the real life murder of Kim Wall, a Danish journalist. It very cleverly avoided giving publicity and agency to the murderer by never showing him on screen or naming him directly. I think it was shown on the BBC.

Just spotted Entrapped on Netflix, Icelandic drama, follow up to Trapped, only just started it but expecting it to be good

Piggywaspushed · 15/09/2022 18:44

I loved the first series of Trapped but it went downhill as these things do. Hope Entrapped is an improvement!

.

We've just watched Kleo (German) on Netflix and loved that. Felt a bit Tarantino at times and reminded me of Wes Anderson movies in style too.

Very twisty and funny.

Loved the lead actress.

La Mante was one I particularly enjoyed. It's French and was on Netflix back when I watched it (i think it still is)

La Mante was very good. Lead actress was a Bond Girl too 😁

Wibbly1008 · 15/09/2022 19:01

La mante… french, female killer , excellent

WolverineBluey · 15/09/2022 19:05

Thanks so much for the tip off about Entrapped! Assume they had to amend the title as there's already a few Trappeds on there. The second series was on Amazon.

Netflix also has Katla (supernatural Icelandic drama) and Clark (Swedish true crime comedy drama with Bill Skaarsgard) which I really enjoyed.

The Chestnut Man on Netflix.

Summergarden · 15/09/2022 19:39

Follow the Money was good.

NiteCat · 15/09/2022 19:44

The Lørenskog Disappearance Netflix since yesterday so haven't watched yet

TRC11 · 15/09/2022 19:47

Babylon Berlin!

ALittleBitAhAh · 15/09/2022 19:52

I really enjoyed Les Revenents - only the original French one though. Really couldn't get into the American version (The Returned). Bit supernatural rather than crime. Don't think it's on UK Netflix but may be on Amazon. Or accessible via a VPN.

AngelaChasesBestLife · 15/09/2022 19:58

If you've got Netflix, Capitani is very good. I'm still working my way through but my Mum (who is the queen of Scandi noir, Walter Presents etc) declared the best piece of TV she'd ever seen.

There's another one she's also raving about but I can't remember the name. I'll ask her.

SpottyStripyDuvet · 15/09/2022 19:59

Need to look through this thread properly.

We also enjoyed Cardinal, which is Canadian so you get the same type of lovely scenery as the scandi noir ones.

I watched this and was really enjoying it when it came to an abrupt end without resolving anything.
Apparently Netflix haven't decided if they're going to make a second series until they see the viewing figures for the first series, which is a tad annoying!

I usually love this type of thing but this did not hold my attention (kept dropping off!)

It's a true crime with an unresolved outcome so I don't see how Netflix could make a series two.

tulipsunday · 19/09/2022 20:03

Another vote for the chestnut man on Netflix

hmmm, apparently Netflix’s Norwegian crime thriller drama series “The Lorenskog Disappearance” is a dramatized semi-fictional retelling of a high-profile case that shook Norway in 2018.
It certainly looked like it was heading to a resolution. I'm not sure I'd have started watching if I knew it would finish without a resolution.

J0y · 19/09/2022 20:56

Oh there's no resolution.?
Two episodes in and it's good, but I want an answer.
I think he (Tom hagen) did it

Well you could Google the actual Lorenskog case (wish that I had done that before watching) - the drama more or less ends as it did in real life.

The show reminded me of 42 Days of Darkness, also on Netlix. That's based on a real life criminal case too. Much better IMO.

Winniewonka · 20/09/2022 23:02

Caliphate or Kaliphate, unsure of spelling, is an excellent Swedish thriller on Netflix. Set in Sweden and Middle East.

J0y · 21/09/2022 07:50

I finished lorenskog. At the end it felt like they were either just about to crack the case, or running around in circles. I think he arranged it though. That friend of his filmed saying (before Anne Elizabeth was kidnapped) that tom hagen had been asking him about monero and bitcoin) well that went against the version of himself he was portraying.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 22/09/2022 07:01

Sisterhood is a new programme set in Iceland on Channel 4 which looks good
