We are looking for a new drama to watch. We loved the Scandi ones and also Spiral the French police show - what is similar and as good? It doesn’t have to have subtitles but for some reason we always prefer the foreign ones.

Those Who Kill on iPlayer (Darkness S1, Blinded s2). Danish, think they are connected somehow to a 2011 series also on iPlayer but I haven't watched that.

Channel 4's Walter Presents (All 4 app/online) have some crime dramas from various countries. I'm currently watching Swedish Those Who Kill. There was a UK remake but I didn't like it.

If it doesn't have to be crime, then Borgen is really good. I also enjoyed Rita and Bonus Family but they are more lighthearted.

Non Skandi: Godless, Mindhunter, Ozark, Deadwood, Fargo all worth a watch.

The Rising

BinBandit · 11/09/2022 15:08

Oh and The Night Manager, The Sopranos, The Wire are all things I've really enjoyed and also enjoyed The Bridge, The Killing and Spiral like you.

Great suggestions - thank you! DH and I will watch trailers for them tonight and make our pick! X

Lupin is lighter in tone but still very gripping

KittyMcKitty · 11/09/2022 15:22

There’s a new series of Trapped (called Entrapped) on Netflix - if you’ve not seen it’s Icelandic.

Trom - set in Faroe Islands was also great.

Twin

Young Wallender (I really enjoyed this although not everyone’s cup of tea)

Deadwind

Borderrown

The Valhalla Murders

Those who kill

BatteryPoweredMammy · 11/09/2022 15:34

This was a list I compiled for my sister

Scandi style musts include:

Lilyhammer
The Valhalla Murders
Deadwind
Bordertown

French
Lupin (sexy lead and clever plot)
The Chalet (twisty whodunnit)
Gone for Good

UK tv (I’m in Ireland so rarely see these when they’re originally broadcast)

Mrs Wilson
Summer of Rockets
The Stranger
The Fall
Giri/Haji

also some good Korean dramas if you can still find them

The Good Detective (older cop and cute rookie)
Vagabond (lots of excellent martial arts/street fighting)
Bad Guys (season 1 was best)
Signal
Stranger - 2 seasons
Tunnel (time travel detective, entertaining and not too daft)
Voice - 2 series (a bit stretched but still entertaining)

Trom on BBC1, All4 have lots of Scandi dramas. I'm.watching The Following on Prime at the moment Kevin Bacon in it. Its quite good.

kessiebird · 11/09/2022 15:43

Katla on Netflix is really good. Icelandic.

trickyex · 11/09/2022 15:44

Deadwind, Lupin and Marcella

halfgirlhalfturnip · 13/09/2022 08:22

State of happiness is superb - scandi but not crime.

chickensaresafehere · 13/09/2022 10:35

Bordertown. I've got a big crush on Ville Virtanen, the lead detective in it !

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 13/09/2022 10:43

DNA was a good watch. It was shown on the BBC and was a Danish/French/Polish collaboration. I've looked and can't see it available anyway currently but maybe keep an eye out for its return.

steelseries · 13/09/2022 10:46

Have you tried Der Pass? It's basically the Austrian/German version of the Bridge but really good. There's 2 series now I think.

Where can I watch Der Pass in the UK?

Loved The Bridge, enjoyed The Tunnel (British/French version,) but didn't like the US series.

steelseries · 14/09/2022 19:33

@rosegoldwatcher I think I watched on Sky but it's available to rent on Prime and Apple TV too. I'd recommend - really good.

J0y · 14/09/2022 19:39

Snow Angel on all4 is Swedish with a couple of Danish characters of course!!

Piggywaspushed · 14/09/2022 20:42

Yes to lots of the above.

Loved loved Twin, and Lupin is really entertaining.

Recommend also Quicksand - more teen centred but very dark and intriguing - it's great.

Not crime but State of Happiness is indeed brilliant. Finished yesterday and feel bereft.

Capitani (Luxembourg) series 1 is good.

BeyondsEnergyObsession · 14/09/2022 20:44

La Mante was one I particularly enjoyed. It's French and was on Netflix back when I watched it (i think it still is)

KittyMcKitty · 14/09/2022 21:40

There’s also a couple of Harland Corbin (I’m sure I’ve got his name wrong) dramas on Netflix- one in Polish - Hold Tight - and French - Gone For Good -which were good if maybe somewhat formulaic.

Pootle40 · 14/09/2022 21:42

Der Pass is very good

SudocremOnEverything · 14/09/2022 21:43

Trapped (and the new series entrapped) on Netflix. Icelandic.

tripledecker · 14/09/2022 21:43

I’m watching Capitani on Netflix at the moment which is good.

Recently watched those who kill on iPlayer which was also good

jacostajune · 14/09/2022 22:08

We enjoyed Follow The Money, not sure what channel it's on now.
