Behind as always

Seen last weeks now

Didn't know faith had a drug problem

Well, she didn't, did she. It's something that has been retrofitted to force a new storyline on us, and it's seriously ludicrous.

LouisCatorze · 07/04/2023 11:14

I liked Faith when she first came into Casualty but went off her after she professed her love for Dylan and then an episode or two down the line they had an argument, and she was out.

I have a feeling that Max is attracted to her. That's going to cause even more issues with Dylan.

Ian won't stick around for long once he knows about her substance misuse.

@SgtCatherineCawood - I agree. It just felt false.
I did wonder why her “off the rails” storyline ended so abruptly - but that isn’t unusual for Casualty. Remember the Charlie “catfishing” SL that just died?

That was when they decided to make the gormless receptionist into a likeable character to Robin could get some action.

LouisCatorze · 07/04/2023 12:07

I get the feeling that the writers of Casualty are not working to some 'big plan' story arc. They seemingly write in plot devices on a whim, hoping that the audience will have forgotten back stories that make characters' subsequent behaviour unlikely.

Optimist1 · 07/04/2023 13:11

Ian won't stick around for long once he knows about her substance misuse.

I disagree, @LouisCatorze - I think Ian is going to take her on as a project, hoping for a better result than with the last addict he tried to help!

daffodilandtulip · 08/04/2023 21:31

Because out of four new nurses, we couldn't have one that just came in and got on with their job?

bizzey · 08/04/2023 21:42

It was a bit " carry on nursing" !!
Flips sake ...even non trained people know how to take blood pressure!

Am I right in thinking these nurses would have done a 3 year degree beforehand?

Or are they training on the job straight from school ? !

bizzey · 08/04/2023 21:44

And surely Jacob knows how to do handovers by now ...he has listened to them enough times !

Hellocatshome · 08/04/2023 21:57

So the kiddies (I mean nurses) have their little secret hang out and Jacob can patently transfer from nurses to paramedic in 6 weeks.

Anotherdaymorenames · 08/04/2023 22:00

When did Jacob qualify as a paramedic?

bizzey · 08/04/2023 22:04

I think Ian pulled a few strings .

LIZS · 08/04/2023 22:07

Anotherdaymorenames · 08/04/2023 22:00

When did Jacob qualify as a paramedic?

It seems pretty fluid in Holby. Sam (Dylan's ex) did so previously having been an ED doctor.

Anotherdaymorenames · 08/04/2023 22:10

And what's the pay drop he took? I wouldn't be happy going down in pay only to work with the same team and same organisation I didn't get on with.

spiderlight · 09/04/2023 00:44

The new kids' hangout is a bit Grey's Anatomy! I quite liked tonight's episode, daft though it was. The new nurses have potential. Was Ian's comment about Faith being back meant to indicate that she's been off getting her valium addiction sorted in record time and that whole storyline has vanished as quickly as it appeared?

Even I know how to do a handover (having listened to them enough times...) (zero RL medical knowledge or experience)

pinkySilver · 09/04/2023 01:19

Tonight's episode annoyed me - for all the reasons above. Four ridiculous nurses - such stereotypes. (Although I have a real soft spot for Barney Walshe and I hope he does well in this).

And always one new starter who arrives on the first day (choose one or more of the following options)

--> late/ in the wrong clothes/ in a big rush/having just saved a life in the street on the way to work/ having just fallen out of bed with some random (who may or may not turn out to be a Dr or patient).

And/or

--> is/was related to married to or sleeping with OR has worked with/ trained with one of the small number of existing staff.

And I really want to see some proper patients with proper injuries. They were all a bit "token". The pregnant woman was ridiculous - in waiting room being reassured > on bathroom floor > in bed in cubicle with possible placenta previa. End of. And what happened to the woman who fell downstairs? (Although I may have been feeding the cat and got distracted... ) It was all a bit rushed.
Still I've stuck with it for about forty years, (or it feels like I have), so I'm not giving up now!

I thought this too. Must’ve been quite a big drop I reckon.

daffodilandtulip · 09/04/2023 09:43

I spent the whole time trying to read his lapels ... they do say Student Paramedic. (Not any less ridiculous obv but at least they're not thinking the viewers are completely thick.)

I thought this @spiderlight

Nicely shoehorned in and easily missed

Yes, if he left because he felt he'd lost respect/credibility, or whatever, why on earth would he take a job which would mean that he'd constantly have to go back to his former workplace? Surely he could just walk into another NHS nursing job virtually anywhere?

Must admit I'm pissed off because Jacob annoys me and I was quite pleased when I thought we'd got rid of him.

Are we supposed to believe that expensively kitted-out playroom is always empty whenever the nurses want to hide there? I assume that was where that kid whose mother collapsed got taken off to, but I doubt that it's there solely for occasional use by the children of unconscious patients. It's probably meant for play therapy, physio, assessments etc. If I were, say, a therapist working with a physically or mentally ill child, I'd be less than pleased to find my work area randomly occupied by a group of childish nurses.

LouisCatorze · 09/04/2023 13:30

Jacob hasn't got a young family to support though, so could likely afford to take the pay cut for a management-free role? Presumably, he's thinking being a paramedic will be less political than his previous role. I wonder how that's going to pan out?

unvillage · 09/04/2023 15:47

Whatever happened to Jacob's surprise son? Think he'll make a dramatic return like Louis Fairhead kept doing?

bizzey · 09/04/2023 16:25

Blake ?
Elle's son..?
I am just on that story now on classic casualty.

bizzey · 09/04/2023 16:25

Or does he have more ? !!
