We knew David was going anyway, so I guess that is It for him. Maybe Marty will notice that he needs a job in order to pay the bills, although I know that doesn't usually seem to be a concern for all the Holby staff who leave without giving notice.

TrashyPanda · 18/03/2023 23:56

Charlie’s acting was off-the-scale bad tonight!

his attempts to convey emotion just made him appear constipated. Typical he didn’t have the guts to walk out. We were desperately hoping he would finally bugger off.

Sadly, all this totally over-shadowed Robyn’s death. And possibly the last appearance of David, who was the best nurse they had.

it was lovely seeing Sasha again.

maybe they will solve the nursing shortage by bringing back Fletch? And Donna too. That would improve things immensely.

PeasInOurTime · 19/03/2023 00:13

I was so happy to see Sascha and hear mention of Dom! Shame it was in such a sad episode. I had no idea David was leaving 🙁Charlie was spectacularly bad though, too many lingering shots of him trying to show a range of emotions.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 19/03/2023 08:03

I knew David was leaving but hadn’t heard anything about Marty going. Love to see that the ‘no need to work any notice’ rule is still alive and well.

Having never really liked him as a character, I thought the moments with Paul were quite moving. But what on earth happens to Charlotte now? Unless Robyn sorted her will out, surely she won’t be allowed to stay with Paul…

TrashyPanda · 19/03/2023 09:37

Just realised that
the older lady who had a stroke last night and
the older lady who died in the staff room with David

both looked an awful lot healthier and mentally alert than Charlie!

TrashyPanda · 19/03/2023 09:47

Maybe Robyn appointed Max and Zoe as Charlottes guardians?

then they could come back too.

they are my all-time fave couple in Casualty.

LouisCatorze · 19/03/2023 10:20

Poor Robyn.

Great to see Sascha again.

Yes, it would be great to have some of the best-loved Holby characters filling the void left by three departed nurses.

Will miss David, and so will Dylan.

Knew it was too good to be true that Charlie would go.

Whatthetrolley · 19/03/2023 10:48

Thought I'd watched enough of the episode to be able to come on here and see everyone's comments. I wondered why no one was celebrating Charlie's resignation, what a plot twist!!

TrashyPanda · 19/03/2023 11:02

Forgot to mention another Charlie comedy moment - when he was looking see if he could cannulate the teenage boy.

who the hell would let him approach their kid with a needle? Not only cos he is doddery and looks confused 90% of the time, but because he never wears his specs anymore. And there’s no way he could put in contacts.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/03/2023 18:14

Oh wow

I didn't expect Robyn to die. She was going to Leeds ? Couldn't she have just gone

Now poor little Charlotte has no mum or dad

Who will she live with

A man who prob was happy to be step father but not to bring her up on his own

Charlie was in casualty before I started nurse training. I can retire next year. Just saying.

He was going to Wigan.

Has Robyn got parents? I would hve thought they or Max would be a better bet than Paul for looking after Charlotte.

LIZS · 19/03/2023 18:51

Is Max still in US with Zoe? Why did Sascha mention Lofty but not him?

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/03/2023 19:06

Wigan. That's it. I'm rubbish with areas

I suspect Charlotte will just quietly cease to exist, unless Charlie and Paul have a custody battle over her.

premicrois · 20/03/2023 11:48

Was sacha appearing a teaser to Bob coming into casualty, or just a one off?

Also, Charlie used to be a great character and the part was well acted. I don't know what has happened over the years Sad

LouisCatorze · 20/03/2023 13:10

@premicrois if this article is to be believed, it was only Saturday's episode. Although the producers may look at how well Sasha's appearance went down, and then potentially write him into future episodes.

Yes I imagine she will go in the cupboard to return as a teenager with a different head, possibly to avenge her mothers death.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/03/2023 14:59

Oh yes @Hellocatshome a new head for sure and aged 10yrs in say 3

We started rewatching Classic Casualty during lockdown. These were eps from 1996. sadly, I can confirm he was just as bad an actor then as he is now.

the scripts tell the audience how wonderful Charlie is, but they fail to show him actually being wonderful, or any better/more empathetic than any of the other staff. The most sick making was when Big Mac had to say “Charlie is the beating heart of the ED”

over the years, there have been many attempts to get him to leave since he hit retiral age, but he clings on with a rictus like grip. The other week in Classic Casualty, Charlie made a quip that he had been nursing before Jacob had his first boxing match. We started laughing, cos we thought he was going to say he’d been nursing years before Jacob was even born!

I have watched it from the start but I probably just think back fondly and didn't see how bad he was because I was 10 when it started Blush

I'm hopeful, although I don't know if the ED is the place for Sacha and maybe it would ruin the good memories

TrashyPanda · 20/03/2023 16:00

We watched it from when it started too!
charlie had curly hair, and was a union rep. He wore a fighter pilot leather jacket with sheepskin lining and drove a crappy car.
Duffy had a really bad attempt at a “local” accent, was a good deal of a skiver and they were all permanently on the nightshift.

LIZS · 20/03/2023 16:39

When did he acquire a Landrover instead of his crappy old Ford?
