As soon as I saw Max getting off that train, I knew he was the new doctor. So predictable!

unvillage · 18/02/2023 23:05

The whole episode made me retch, so glad to see the back of fucking Paul, hope he's gone for good. "I didn't ask you to upend your life for me" You literally did Paul, you asked her to move to Wigan with you, that's the definition of upending her life?!

Marcus is disgusting as well. New Max looks okay but a) too soon to have a new guy called Max and b) hope he isn't going to bully Dylan out. Wonder what went on between them. Dylan's been in Holby for yonks so it must surely be ancient history, unless it all went down after he left because of Sam and ended up living with Zoe.

SoupDragon · 19/02/2023 08:48

Dylan said he knew Max from Med school.

I thought he was nasty and smug and probably a bully.

Hellocatshome · 19/02/2023 10:03

I get the feeling from some of the editing we were supposed to fall for the new Docs smouldering good looks and bit of a bad boy attitude but o me he just came across as creepy.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 19/02/2023 11:45

I remember him as Dennis Rickman from Eastenders, who I used to have a bit of a crush on, and it turns out that fire is still flickering 😂

(Nobody mention that he also played the rapist valet in Downton, please 😬, as I’m trying to pretend that role never happened)

LIZS · 19/02/2023 11:50

I think his past prominent roles have largely been nasty characters which may be hard to shake off.

CatsGinAndTwiglets · 19/02/2023 18:30

As if you’d just tell a teenager she was miscarrying in an open ward!!

SoupDragon · 19/02/2023 18:33

It's OK, they had the magic sound blocking curtains.

Funny story about Nigel Hartman and me ...:

I took my boys to see Shrek the musical about 11 years ago.

During the interval and after I could not stop talking about how fantastic Lord Farquaar was and I think I am in love with Lord Farquaar !!

We went around to the stage door at the end .
Richard Blackwood couldn't (wouldn't ) sign my program as I couldn't find a pen .

Another person came out...I politely asked and he had a pen in his bag and signed it.

I then asked..
" I don't mean to be rude ...but who were you in the show ?"

He said ..( yep you guessed it ! )

Lord Farquaar .

Ohh my 🤩🤩💕💕!

Explosions went off inside me as if I was a 15 year old again and that boy I really fancied said hello to me !!

I got all a bit flustered and legs went to jelly ( while I could hear the boys quietly laughing!)

And then I ruined the moment by asking ...

" ohhh ...I hope your knees aren't too sore ". (🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️)

He smiled and said ...no they are ok ...I had pads on ...

Ohh good I said ...you don't want to be damaging your knees .

He smiled...assured me that his knees were ok ..smiled at the boys
( most probably feeling very sorry for them having a wired mother like me !)

Said a lovely goodbye and went ...

I stood there frozen ...the boys were in fits ..
Why did you ask him about his knees ?🤷🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️

( Sorry this is long !)

Anyhow ...
I watched the episode ...was in the kitchen later and excitedly told them that Lord Farquaar was in Casualty !!

Took alot of misunderstanding for them to finally understand what I was going on about .

DS 1 asked ...are you still lusting after Lord Farquaar ?? 🤣🤣🤣

bizzey · 19/02/2023 23:55

Sorry !
That was really long !!

But it has tickled me pink that I am going to see Lord F every week !

I wonder how his knees are ??

What was all the guff from Paul about it being especially hard for Robyn to treat a baby - because of Charlotte?

she must have treated thousands of babies since Charlotte was born.

hope they just go quietly. Can5 stand Paul.

SoupDragon · 20/02/2023 09:44

It wasn't "guff from Paul", Robyn herself said that it was hard to treat babies as it made her think of Charlotte.

CatsGinAndTwiglets · 20/02/2023 12:44

Paul and robin are both annoying so I won’t be sorry to see either of them go. And surely it’s be easier to move Paul’s mum to holby given that all of robins support network (Charlie?!) is there.

SoupDragon · 20/02/2023 13:35

I think Charlie would be a good reason to move to Wigan 😂

Xol · 20/02/2023 15:34

I don't know how the NHS works, but is it within the power of an administrator to demote a consultant from being clinical lead without going through any sort of capability or warning procedure? And indeed to take on anyone who turns up out of the blue and says he's a qualified doctor without at least checking his credentials first?

Was it just me, or was the new doctor wearing scrubs on the train? Did he ever explain why?

purpleme12 · 20/02/2023 15:37

I don't think he was wearing scrubs on the train no

Xol · 20/02/2023 15:38

SoupDragon · 20/02/2023 09:44

It wasn't "guff from Paul", Robyn herself said that it was hard to treat babies as it made her think of Charlotte.

But Charlotte isn't even a baby any more. If every medic who has children is going to struggle to treat any child, God help children in Holby.

Xol · 20/02/2023 15:41

If new Max thought that footie coach had made the 16 year old pregnant, I'd have thought that, at the very least, he could have put the fear of God into him by pointing out that there would be proof via the DNA from the products of conception.

Paul did say it.

Robyn has treated innumerable babies since Charlotte was born.

its not exactly unusual for medical staff to have children.

why was it suddenly an issue for Robyn?

I thought that. And then wondered if I’d been watching too much Law and Order SVU 😁

I think it would be extremely odd if treating a baby didn't affect any parent.

SoupDragon · 21/02/2023 07:31

We don't see many babies being treated in the programme so it's not suddenly a problem. I bet it is always difficult.

I watch the "Ambulance" fly on the wall programme and the staff are often asked if they need to take some time to get over a difficult call - even the 999 call takers. They deal with it every day too and are real people.

Quia · 21/02/2023 09:31

The thing about the baby issue was the suggestion that it was particularly hard for Robyn because Charlotte. But if it's hard for any parent, on that basis it should have been hard for Faith, Charlie, Ethan, Connie, David, Duffy, and countless more over time.

SoupDragon · 21/02/2023 09:41

Obviously. Except it was Robyn who was the focus of the scene, not the others.

SoupDragon · 21/02/2023 09:48

I think it was just to highlight that it can be difficult. It happened to be Robyn (as I think she had the youngest child now Ethan has gone). We see them as people who are meant to just cope when the reality is that there's probably emotional struggles all the time. Look how Jan fell apart. Like I say, in the fly on the wall programme you see them checking that colleagues are OK. That's all this was.
