Sewing Bee - all the buzz, none of the sting!

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 20/06/2022 16:55

A thread for discussion of Sewing Bee with no criticism of the contestants' personalities, mannerisms, or looks - just their sewing and designs, please.

Who's everybody's favourite for the win? I think Brogan's going to get it, but I'd be happy for any of them to win.

Love it. Thanks for making this! My money is on Debra, but I'd be happy to see any of them win.

It got derailed by negativity, hence this new one.

OperationRinka · 20/06/2022 17:03

Placemarking.

We are still allowed to criticise the occasional fugly garment aren't we?

I think I'm team Brodie. I love the contestants who have built their experience because it's the best way to achieve their own particular taste in clothes. Win or lose I think she's got a great career ahead of her.

But they're all brilliant at this stage.

Oh yes. Just not the contestants themselves, especially for things they can't help.

I'm still a bit haunted by Debra's doll. 😁Did she explain it anywhere? I don't think I could sew with it staring at me...

Haha, I'm sure it's fine to comment on garments! Without turning this into a TAAT, we know what we want to avoid.

I'm so excited for Japan week! But the elimination will be heartbreaking because there isn't a single person I can bear to see leave, from this group. (I also love it being all women, not going to pretend otherwise.)

MayBeee · 20/06/2022 17:06

Brilliant , I did wonder why it had disappeared from my watching list.

Maireas · 20/06/2022 17:07

Thank you for this thread!
It's been a high standard, and hard to call. Some of the tasks have been so complicated.
I think some of them have really pushed themselves.

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 20/06/2022 17:08

I don't know what was harder, making a bra or a shoe?! And the sailor trousers were a lot more complex than I thought they'd be.

OP posts:
Maireas · 20/06/2022 17:11

The bras were most definitely a challenge! Poor Cristian looked nonplussed!
I really liked those sailor trousers and have a pair, although mine don't have that complex front double fasten.

Maireas · 20/06/2022 17:13

@Innocenta - I like it being all women, too. They're all great, but it's nice to see Man Yee and Annie getting more confident.

MirandaWest · 20/06/2022 17:15

I'm not sure who will win or even who I'd like to win - I'd be happy with any of them :)

TokyoTen · 20/06/2022 17:34

I live Man Yee's work. I thought her 1930s blouse from 2 shirts was amazing. Thanks for the thread.

hummerbird · 20/06/2022 17:46

I think Man Yee will win it on consistency.

LadyEloise1 · 20/06/2022 17:55

There is no stand out contestant this year. Marni and Christian were very good, but the other contestants still in are of similar standard.

Innocenta · 20/06/2022 17:59

Man Yee's blouse is my favourite piece of the entire show so far.

BattenbergdowntheHatches · 20/06/2022 18:11

I also think (and hope cos she's my personal fav) Man Yee will win. I'd be happy with any of them - Debra has improved so much and there's not much to choose between any of them.

I loved that. Perfect to wear with sailor trousers!

Ulysses · 20/06/2022 18:34

Man Yee's blouse was beautiful, best transformation I've seen in all the series so far. I wonder if it was based on one of the drawings they were taking inspiration from. There's no one I wouldn't mind winning, though I think her designs are some of the most ambitious, though she doesn't always pull it off. The standard has been so high and Sara is doing a great job.

Debra's probably the one that has went most up in my estimation. She won the first garment of the week and I didn't love it but since then I've been pleasantly surprised that her combination of patterns and fabric choices have quite an edge to them.

Thanks for the new thread btw. I won't comment further but I feel so sorry that Brogan attracted so many nasty nitpickers. Who would want to be in the public eye with that level of animosity against you.

For completeness I love Annie too. Her and Brogan make everything so easy and breezy.

Scarletandtheblack · 20/06/2022 18:35

It genuinely will be a final where I would be happy with any of them as winners, and will be sad about whoever goes home after the semis. I think Deborah might have the creative edge... But very difficult to call.

Ulysses · 20/06/2022 18:37

BTW I make my own clothes and do my own personal sewing bee style talking through the process. It's for my benefit only, no cameras! Any one else?

milkmilkeverywhere · 20/06/2022 18:39

I didn't see the previous thread but I'm genuinely surprised people a) found anything nasty to say about any of them and b) actually voiced that.

Anyhow. I think it's great how even they all are this year, it makes it much more interesting. I think maybe Brogan or Man Yee has been the most consistent but I'd like Debra to win.

DoubleGauze · 20/06/2022 18:41

Thank you for the new thread op! Great idea.

I'm thinking Man Yee might win. She's impressed me so much in the last couple of weeks.

Good to see you all over here.

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 20/06/2022 18:43

Man Yee has been the most consistent

I find this really interesting because my perception is that she started out really well, then lost a bit of confidence in the middle before picking it up again the last few weeks. I haven't been following the rankings closely though, so maybe I'm way off base? I'm so glad to see her at her best these last few weeks, either way.

I think Annie and Debra have had the tradition rising arc, becoming better and better each week. I have a soft spot for Annie in particular.

Ulysses I can only do cross-stitch but I would love to do proper sewing. I don't think I have the talent... I certainly don't have an eye for design, but maybe I could follow a pattern?

Do you have any pictures of your creations you're happy to share?
