Sewing Bee - all the buzz, none of the sting!

A thread for discussion of Sewing Bee with no criticism of the contestants' personalities, mannerisms, or looks - just their sewing and designs, please.

Who's everybody's favourite for the win? I think Brogan's going to get it, but I'd be happy for any of them to win.

@Ulysses I sew too. Have been making my own clothes for a year or so. I use Instagram for inspiration and sharing , such a friendly sewing community over there.

HeadNorth · 20/06/2022 18:50

Thank you for the new thread, the other had gone right down hill. I do hope the nasty element can rein it in now for this thread.

I think any of them could win. I really like Debra’s style, Brogan has been the most consistent, apart from last week when she had a ‘mare. I like them all and think they all have their talents - Any one could pull it out the bag in the final.

Ulysses · 20/06/2022 18:51

I love cross stitch too and keeping my hands busy. I could never apply to be on a TV like sewing bee though because I'm so very slow (and not nearly as creative as the contestants are). This is my most worn dress over the past year, the skirt is cut on the bias so this week's made to measure made a lot of sense. I added the tier on from the pattern as it was a bit short but that's as creative as I can get.

Hello sew sew sew!
Anyone else fibd it funny that they are now called sewists- as sewers is spelt the same as sewer. Ha!

Looking forward to Japanese week, should be good.

Ulysses · 20/06/2022 18:54

Have you been on this sewing thread @DoubleGauze? There's no bitching despite the title! It's lovely and supportive and one of the best bits of Mumsnet for me.

NashvilleQueen · 20/06/2022 18:58

I think Man Yee. Brogan has been amazing from the off but might have peaked too soon. They're all so talented.

SBAM · 20/06/2022 18:58

@Ulysses i couldn’t imagine anything worse than being on the sewing bee - I like to take my time. Plus previous experience tells me the more I rush the more wrong it goes!
I will confess to occasionally explaining out loud to no-one what I’m doing though, mainly to try and make sense of instructions for something new - like the sleeves for the Jenna dress.

DoubleGauze · 20/06/2022 18:59

Thank you @Ulysses I'll check it out. I love your dress by the way. Great shape and colour.

The photo is my most worn recent make. I wear a lot of basics if I'm honest

Wow they look fab .

Innocenta · 20/06/2022 19:11

Genuinely in awe at @DoubleGauze and @Ulysses - wow, both look so good!

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/06/2022 19:20

Hi. Thanks for the thread.

I don't mind who wins they are all really good.

I made my own clothes as a teenager and only stopped in the 90s due to heavier workload and cheaper rtw clothes. The first Series of Sewing Bee inspired me to start again and now I make almost everything. I have even made a bra on a one day course.

DoubleGauze · 20/06/2022 19:27

Thank you. I'm enjoying learning.

I agree with @SBAM , being part of gbsb must be so hard. Being presented with a strange pattern , being filmed , and having a time limit sounds terrifying. They're all so brave. I bet even the people that leave in week one and two etc are amazing sewists. All it takes one thing that's outside of your comfort zone and you're completely thrown.

It's been a great series. The remaining 4 would all be worthy.

DoubleGauze · 20/06/2022 19:28

@CaptainMyCaptain show us yer bra!

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/06/2022 19:36

I've tried to put a bra picture up and photos of my work in progress Ginger Jeans but my phone says it can't do it due to low memory. No idea why. I'll try turning it off and on again.

DoubleGauze · 20/06/2022 19:40

@CaptainMyCaptain that's a shame. The ginger jeans pattern looks really interesting , I've seen some lovely versions on Instagram.

great idea for a thread - I'm torn between Brogan and Debra to win - I think it might be Debra though with Brogan second. having said that, it's been brilliant seeing Annie and Man Yee really coming into their own in recent weeks - very talented both of them. To be honest i think all would be worthy winners

Ulysses · 20/06/2022 19:59

Wowee @CaptainMyCaptain they’re
both amazing pieces of construction. Immaculate topstitching.

DoubleGauze · 20/06/2022 20:02

@CaptainMyCaptain that bra looks like one you'd find in a shop. The jeans look great too , let us know when you've finished.

3luckystars · 20/06/2022 20:06

man yee is really leading at the moment. I love this programme so much.

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/06/2022 20:06

Thank you.

AnImaginaryCat · 20/06/2022 20:11

Hello!!

I'm very disappointed, thought it was Tuesday today. Turns out it's not. This means the Sewing Bee is one entire day further away than I thought.

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 20/06/2022 20:27

Ulysses DoubleGauze CaptainMyCaptain Wow! I would wear all of those without hesitation.

I was rewatching the reuse and recycle episode earlier today , and although Brogan's duvet dress isn't something I'd wear , it is an excellent showcase for what you can do with old bedding. It looked great on the catwalk.

Annie's Bowie dress/jacket looked very cool , and Debra just seems very versatile And experienced . Man Yee is the one that seems to enjoy a challenge the most though , she made the bustier top , and really embraces the transformation task. The handling on her pyjamas was beautiful too.

I can't wait to see what the final m2m is. They've already made gowns so it must be something really special and different.

Cuck00soup · 20/06/2022 20:51

I actually think on the day any of them could win. It has been a fabulous series.

I'd say Brogan and Deborah mostly do quality and while Man Yee and Annie haven't always been so consistent, they can both do style.

I see occasionally but if I were a contestant, I think I'd still be reading the patterns from week one. It takes me a looong time to fathom some of them.
