No matter how many times you watch them!

Casper, when the mum comes back.

Friends, when Monica is going to the sperm bank & Joey chats to her about how he sees her future & gives her a big hug. (I was desperately broody & single first time I watched that & it always still gives me the feels!)

The start of Titanic where they show that old footage & play that music.

The very last scene of Nowhere Boy, where the young John is walking down the street towards his future. John was never my favourite Beatle, but I wept all the way home!

ReallyReallyReallyAm · 16/06/2022 08:42

Oh I've not seen it Clawdy But it would probably get me too!

I was a huge boy band fan (I'm 40 now) & the final 5ive song 'Closer to me', the video where they have all these snapshots of the boys, happy & sad, then they walk away, always brings a tear to my eye!

The first 10 mins of Up - I’ m in tears as soon as I hear the music .

scrivette · 16/06/2022 10:07

Need for Speed - when the cars crash at the beginning and at the end when the main character is laying down by the lighthouse.

I watched the film "The Lovely Bones" and thought it was good. Dh died a year or 2 later when dc were 11 and 13. The film then came on tv a year or 2 after that and there was a line that upset me. The narrator said that the serial killer thought people would move on from Susie Salmon's disappearance in time, but he didn't realise the strength of a father's love. Upset me as my kids had that but didn't any more.

When I was about ten I saw a black and white film set during the First World War. I don't remember the title but a boy had a major falling out with his grandfather (I think he had lived with him). The boy enlisted and the grandfather had a change of heart and dashed to the station to try to say goodbye. Of course the train left before he got there, and the boy was killed in action without knowing that his grandfather had tried to make amends. It was 30 years ago and I remember nothing else about the film, but I think of that scene often and it always gives me heartache - I remember sobbing desperately at the time.

ahunf · 16/06/2022 10:18

The scene in ghost with the penny and at the end when the angels come for him!!

HampshireMummyof2 · 16/06/2022 10:36

The scene in Schindler list where it looks like it is snowing but it's ash from the furnace.

ReallyReallyReallyAm · 16/06/2022 10:51

Myfanwy Yeah, I can't speak to my kids at the start of UP as I have a little something in my throat... It's sooo sad isn't it!

Latenightreader That sounds really sad.

War films reminded me of Empire of the son where the boy is friends with the enemy boy & then he gets killed coz they 'aren't allowed' to be friends.

My dad watched that film a lot when I was younger & I remember being so confused about why the boy was killedSad

The Color Purple. The scene at the end when they meet again. Properly howl. I bowled when I read the book as well.

ReallyReallyReallyAm · 16/06/2022 10:54

StEthelburgaRose I got given that dvd by an ex before I had kids & I hated it. Really heartbreaking. My ex was really annoyed with me that I didn't like it & I remember saying 'Why would I want to watch that? It's awful!' I've never watched it again. Bathtub full of blood I rememberSad

My girl the funeral scene I ugly cry at that one every time

Latenightreader · 16/06/2022 11:19

Oh yes, Empire of the Sun. For me it is the bit at the very end when the children are all gathered waiting to be reunited with their parents, and he looks so bad his parents don't recognise him at first - the exhaustion and suffering he exudes is visceral. Then when they do see him he can barely take it in and just stands there, before finally closes his eyes as his mother holds him.

JaneJeffer · 16/06/2022 11:27

Pride - when buses full of miners turn up for the march. I cry all the way to the end after that every time I see it.

BigFatLiar · 16/06/2022 11:28

Lots of films have those sort if moments

Haatchi where the man dies and the dog sits by the station waiting for him. IIRC at the end the dog dies and the man's there waiting to walk off with the dog.

Field of Dreams where he asks his father's ghost if he wants to play catch.

ReallyReallyReallyAm · 16/06/2022 11:39

Latenightreader And he touches her lipstick. I used to hate that bit but it touches me when I see it now I've got kids. He remembers his mum.

Doctor Who, when they take Vincent Van Gogh to the gallery. I'm in floods every time.

cooldarkroom · 16/06/2022 12:16

I watched a film on a plane, I can't remember the name, set in Oz, 2 young lads enlisted (Anzac)
The whole film made me hurt
The hostess asked me if I was OK

WhenDovesFly · 16/06/2022 12:20

Yes to Ghost, especially the end.

Yes to Hachi, when the dog is waiting for his master to return.

Also, Marley and me, when the dog dies.

Any animal ones actually. I cried when Bambi's mum got killed Grin.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 16/06/2022 12:21

The final scene of Billy Elliott where his Billy's dad is overcome with emotion seeing his son as the lead male in Swan Lake.

And the hospital scene in Terms of Endearment where Debra winger is saying goodbye to her sons. The older son is angry and grief stricken at his mother dying and refuses to tell her he loves her but Debra Winger tells him that she knows he loves her and he's not to feel guilt over this moment in later life. Waaaaaah.

Renniesfixeverything · 16/06/2022 12:27

Mine is embarrassing as it's an episode of 2 pints of lager and a packet of crisps Blush It's the one where Gaz is supposed to be deciding who he loves between Janet and Donna but gets hit by a car and ends up unconscious in hospital. Donna sits by his bed talking to him til he comes round and then he says 'it's always been you' and she does this sort of sob. It kills me everytime, no idea why!

RoseLunarPink · 16/06/2022 12:34

I saw UP several times when my DC were younger, I cried buckets at the opening sequence the first time but after that I thought, well I know what to expect now, I won't cry. Every fucking time! Inconsolable with the kids really concerned about me because I couldn't stop blubbing!

Toy Story "When she loved me" bit 😭

And the end of/"reveal" in a french film called I've Loved You So Long with Kristin Scott Thomas - only watch if you want to sob for days!

ElenaSt · 16/06/2022 12:36

When Travis shoots Old Yeller.

perimenofertility · 16/06/2022 12:43

Kramer vs Kramer, where they are making breakfast on the morning when he is handing the child over to the mum. And the whole of Lion.

perimenofertility · 16/06/2022 12:44

Also, the land before time, when the baby dinosaur cries, truly breaks my heart.
