No matter how many times you watch them!

Casper, when the mum comes back.

Friends, when Monica is going to the sperm bank & Joey chats to her about how he sees her future & gives her a big hug. (I was desperately broody & single first time I watched that & it always still gives me the feels!)

The start of Titanic where they show that old footage & play that music.

About a boy, when mum and the boy sing their song 'killing me softly' and his sad face 😓

Selok I love Hugh Grant in that, I just think the whole movie is brilliant!

I cried the whole way through the Watership down music video when it came on TV yesterday... I was having a bad day in my defence!

Mary Poppins 2 - the song "Where The Lost Things Go"
Mamma Mia - the song "Slipping Through My Fingers"
The christening scene in Mamma Mia 2
Forrest Gump scene where Forrest is standing at Jenny's grave
And the scene among many in Who Will Love My Children where Lucille is imagining her children running towards her bedroom window then they disappear one by one - heartbreaking!

Forest Gump where Forest asks Jenny if his son is like him. His facial expression and body language really gets to me.
Ransom - the scene where the Dad (Mel Gibson) thinks he's just caused his dad's death.
The Patriot - another Mel one when his young daughter looks at him and say's 'Don't go' after not talking to him for a long time.
Imitation of Life (1959) when Sarah Jane is running after her mum's funeral carriage after mostly disowning her while she was still alive.
A.I. when the robot boy is left in the forest by his mum. I had to leave the movie the first time I saw that scene. Again, later in the film (2nd attempt at watching it) when the robot boy has been sitting at the bottom of the ocean staring at the blue fairy for years waiting for his wish (of his mum's love) to come true. Absolutely heartbreaking.

The bit on only fools and horses. After grandad's funeral when Rodney accuses Del of being callous. Then Del explain that he doesn't know how to grieve or be sensetive as he's always had to be strong for everyone else

Some oldies here:

Terms of Endearment - when Debra Winger tells her children she is dying.

Love Story - When Ali McGraw dies

Also - the Dam Busters - where the airman comes back from his mission and finds out that his dog is dead.

An old black and white film, no idea of the title, but set at least in part on a Naval ship during WW2. A man is writing to his wife, but then hears that she was killed in an air raid. He crumples up the unfinished letter and throws it into the sea. I remember sobbing over that on a Sunday afternoon when I was in my teens!

In Which We Serve, @Latenightreader. Many, many moments in that film that make me cry!

Thank you! Doesn’t that have a very young Richard Attenborough in it? Must seek it out!

Yes, I think it was his first acting role. Directed by David Lean jointly with Noel Coward, who wrote the script and has the leading acting role. The beautiful performance you mentioned above was from Bernard Miles. John Mills and Celia Johnson are both in it too.

Afterlife ( the Lesley Sharpe /Andrew Lincoln series ) "Things Forgotten" where he's in her sitting room saying "Alison, I'm not ready to go"
Then when she says "You don't have to , stay for a drink" and turns round , he is gone ...and the door in bolted on the inside .

( Spoiler he's on the road with a Paramedic crew , Alison has lost her pyschic ability that she didn't want . He now believes in the paranormal which he set out to disprove using her as a subject )

Just checking back inSmile

I havn't seen any of the new ones listed but I recently saw Charlotte's Web for the first time & it wasn't as sad as I thought it would be!

Has anybody seen that little Disney mini move, 'shorts' I think they are called, Lava? That's a proper lump in the throat one!

We watched Homeward Bound the other day, first time I've seen it since I was a kid, obv I remembered the ending was sad but it was a bit right near the beginning that got to me this time, when Shadow says 'Stay' to the little boy before they leaveSad

Gladiators - at the end, in the beautiful wheat field, in the sunshine, where he's dying and going back to his wife and child.

Good Will Hunting - the 'it's not your fault' scene.

ReallyReallyReallyAm · 08/10/2022 19:44

I've not seen either of those OhMerde. I saw the start of Gladiator where they were in a que & a man wee'd himself before getting killed... Then decided that it's too gorey for me!

Oh goodness, try again and shut your eyes at any gruesome bits. Gladiator is epic!!

Spudlet · 09/10/2022 10:48

I once saw Gladiator at the Albert Hall with an orchestra playing the score live. It was AMAZING. If you ever have the chance to see one of those performances, go - they are amazing.

And yes, Gladiator is epic even without an orchestra. But if you have the chance, see it with an orchestra!

ReallyReallyReallyAm · 09/10/2022 13:13

That sounds amazing Spudlet. I've always wanted to see an orchestra live but havn't managed it yet!
