No matter how many times you watch them!

Casper, when the mum comes back.

Friends, when Monica is going to the sperm bank & Joey chats to her about how he sees her future & gives her a big hug. (I was desperately broody & single first time I watched that & it always still gives me the feels!)

The start of Titanic where they show that old footage & play that music.

Oh, and I, Daniel Blake. Stupidly watched it on a plane and totally lost it, ugly cried for about 15 minutes.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 16/06/2022 15:22

When Brenda’s mam died in Th Closer. The doubt followed by the realisation followed by the misery.

Kyra Sedgwick just played it beautifully.

I felt raw.

Brenda

@cooldarkroom Was it Gallipoli?

ReallyReallyReallyAm · 16/06/2022 15:25

Yes to the old couple on the bed in Titanic & the mum telling the story, also when they won't let the 'poor' people out of the gate, & when Rose is in the lifeboat looking up at Jack & the dad is saying 'Its only for a little while'.

I watched maybe half of Daniel Blake but had to turn it off as I was sobbing... Being on long term benefits myself it just cut too close to home.

Futurama, the Jurassic Bark episode. Just thinking about the dog makes me well up.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 16/06/2022 15:28

And Lance’s death in Cucumber. I just couldn’t speak. We were watching it in the Mess Room and the silence was deafening. I was too shocked to cry.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 16/06/2022 15:29

I will never watch that again giggorata. Never.

Buffy saying she's 16 and doesn't want to die at the end of season 1. Until then, it's kind of all been fun and games. That's when you think, hang on, she actually is just a kid and she's facing dying here for something she never chose.

Any time Sarah Michelle Gellar cries, really. She's really good at it. There's another early scene where her dad (not really her dad, but she doesn't know) sits her down and confirms all her worst fears - that it WAS her fault her parents got divorced, that she's a disappointment, not good enough, etc. Her face acting is amazing 💔

@cooldarkroom Was it Gallipoli?

It was "The Water Diviner".

BemusedBrenda · 16/06/2022 16:18

Hands down for me it is in Goodnight Mr Tom...when Tom goes to London and unlocks the cupboard where Willie has been locked up holding his baby sister. I saw it years ago and it still haunts me - I don't think I could bring myself to watch it again!

Simonjt · 16/06/2022 16:30

So many.

Years and Years when the immigration official asks Viktor if he is alone and he says “I don’t know” because Daniel is there with him, but he’s dead.

The last half an hour of lion.

Tadashi being killed in big hero 6.

The Land Before Time - Littlefoot mum dies. Littlefoot sees his shadow and thinks she has come back.

Littlefoot's mother: Dear, sweet, Littlefoot, do you remember the way to the Great Valley?

Littlefoot: I guess so. But why do I have to know if you're going to be with me?

Littlefoot's mother: I'll be with you. Even if you can't see me.

Littlefoot: What do you mean if I can't see you? I can always see you.

Fuck. Teared up just writing this.

Just about to respond with Land Before Time! God, it's heartbreaking!!

@StrychnineInTheSandwiches That Debra winger scene and when Shirley MacLaine slaps the sun and then hugs him, I waiL every time

Anxiernie · 16/06/2022 16:42

Oh no.

The Fox and The Hound. When the old lady drops Todd off in the woods to save him.

Dumbo. When the mum is chained up and rocking Dumbo the Baby Mine, through the bars (a song I sing to my DD).

Bambi. Mum dies. Bambi 2, hunters use deer calls to attract deers, Bambi hears the call as his mum's voice and rushes for her.

The Lion King. Mufasa dying and Simba cuddling up to him. "Dad get up, we gotta go home..."

Oliver and Company. The very start where all the kittens get adopted and he just wants someone to pick him but doesn't get chosen and is left all alone and unloved and wet and lonely and sad. GAH.

.... Clearly a theme here for me.

Simonjt · 16/06/2022 16:44

@Anxiernie I have never been able to watch the fox and the hound the whole way through, far too upsetting.

Anxiernie · 16/06/2022 16:45

Any scene where a child is in great danger and shouting for their dad or mum to come and save them... But the parent isn't there or can't get to them.

That happened recently to me watching Moon Knight of all things. The cave scene with the two brothers.

chocchipbrioche · 16/06/2022 16:46

The Green Mile, last part when all the prison guards are crying and don't want to execute him and he says, 'don't put that hood on me boss I'm afraid of the dark' 😭😭
When Beth dies in Little Women 😭😭
Bette Midler singing wind beneath my wings in Beaches (very personal for me as my best friend has been my best friend for 45 years since we were kids) 😭😭
Definitely the reunion in Colour Purple 😭😭
Mufasa dying in the Lion King, recently watched it with my youngest kids and had to lie and try and say without tearing up that Simba's daddy was just sleeping 😭😭

I was going to say this too.

Latenightreader · 16/06/2022 16:48

Several of mine have already been mentioned, but:

Fried Green Tomatoes when Idgy tells Ruth a story for the last time and is sobbing through her words.

A League of Their Own when the telegram arrives and all the women are terrified it is for them and the end when Dottie asks Stillwell if his mother is there.

About Time - the last day on the beach with his Dad, but mainly when he comes back from changing something to discover he has deleted his daughter.

LadyApplejack · 16/06/2022 16:48

My other bawler but in a bit of a good way:

Legends of the Fall, when the cops turn up to kill Tristan and are shot at the last second, and the camera pans to his brother Alfred as the shooter. Their father had always treated him as a traitor/outcast within the family, but he was totally loyal and saved them all! I sobbed at the cinema!!

ancientgran · 16/06/2022 16:51

The last season of Orange is the New Black when women are being deported and one by one they gradually disappear from the plane. I found it chilling because who knows what happens to people like that when they do "disappear" from view? Poor Maritza didn't even know she wasn't an American citizen.

NellesVilla · 16/06/2022 16:53

The end of Crash where the cop thinks the young black man is reaching for a weapon but he’s actually reaching for his crucifix. This scene was copied from the film Tsoti which is one of the most tragically beautiful and sad films in that decade.

chocchipbrioche · 16/06/2022 16:57

@NellesVilla oh wow I forgot about Crash. The bit that gets me in that film is when the little girl runs out to protect her dad as she thinks she's got the invisible bulletproof chest on and she gets shot. I remember bursting into tears in the cinema and when you see she's fine having to leave to compose myself. Only later on dvd release did I actually see the end of the film 😆😭😭😭
Anything to do with children sets me off
