No matter how many times you watch them!

Casper, when the mum comes back.

Friends, when Monica is going to the sperm bank & Joey chats to her about how he sees her future & gives her a big hug. (I was desperately broody & single first time I watched that & it always still gives me the feels!)

The start of Titanic where they show that old footage & play that music.

Gladiator: 'who will help me carry him?'

The Snowman sequel, when the old dog dies. Gets me every Christmas.

I watched Who Do You Think You Are on iplayer, it was Matt Lucas. It was sad with many of his maternal grandmother's family dying in concentration camps but the bit that touched me was him going to her parents grave. It was overgrown and the headstone had fallen. I was thinking, "You can afford it, get them a new headstone." He was standing looking at it and said he would get them a new headstone. I don't know why but it just touched me and I filled up.

Billy Elliott when the dad goes back to the mines and the son begs him not to, gets me every time !

lollipoprainbow · 25/06/2022 02:22

The last scene in Paddington 2 when aunt Lucy comes to London, reminds me of my lovely mum. I was crying my eyes at this in the cinema much to my dd's surprise !

I haven't seen it in years but can't forget Christopher Ecclestone dying in Cracker when he remembers his wife ' Oh, God, Catriona' and that's me gone

@Laughingravy is that after he gets stabbed by Robert Carlyle?

Yes that's the one. Bloody harrowing.
I was also 'got' by another Ecclestone scene. In Dr Who there's an episode set in the blitz and the Doctor says:
'Right now, not very far from here the German war machine is rolling up the map of Europe. Country after country, falling like Dominoes. Nothing can stop it, nothing until one tiny, damp little island says "no". No, not here'.

I've had a horrible bout of covid this year and spent 8 weeks basically in bed or lying on the sofa streaming stuff to distract me. I watched Cracker for the first time so that scene is very recent for me and yes it was a heartbreaking moment wasn't it.

Knightsinwhitesatin Snowman 1 is sad when the boy stands there by the dead snowman, but Snowman 2 with the dog is much worse!

I just saw somebody recommend The Notebook for a good, easy watch film. Er, no! I always feel utterly depressed after watching that! Sit there watching the birds at the end just feeling like 'what is he point in anything?!'

I love it though, Rachel & Ryan are both gorgeous but I have to be in a certain mood to watch it!

ancientgran We all suffered really badly with covid at the same & the kids put Soul on for the first the... They recently put it on again & I can't watch it, it just takes me back to those dark days (I know I sound dramatic but it really was bad!)

Gorillas in the Mist when the poachers take Digit's hands and the babies are thrown into bags after their mothers are murdered. It's so devastating.

An incredibly sad news item on our local news programme a few weeks ago. A researcher found a small burial ground behind a hospital where stillborn babies had been buried many years ago, no gravestones, but a metal disc in the ground, with a number on for each baby. He managed to find a lady still living who'd lost her baby and had no idea there was such a burial place. She was taken there, and she placed a bunch of flowers on the disc, kissed her hand, and whispered " Mummy's here."

ReallyReallyReallyAm · 27/06/2022 15:46

Clawdy That's very sad. Worse because there's probably hundreds of women who never knew what happened to their babies.

JoJo Rabbit, when he happens across his Mum's shoes. If you've seen the film, you'll know...

Floogal · 27/06/2022 17:13

That Xmas episode of Old Man Jack's boat. Where he invites his friends for a song song but they're all too busy. It's revealed Jack is a widower. Then all his friends surprise him by organising a song song

I know someone who worked on that… I too bawl at that bit. Which is exactly what they were going for, the gits. When I first saw it I was aware that I probably didn’t have long left with my old dog and I was a mess - what it’ll be like when I watch it now that old dog is gone I dread to think. Bring on the extra tissues…!

Ethel and Ernest - the bit when he’s evacuated and his mum and dad are waving goodbye. And when the parents die. Omg.
