Because I have some questions!

@DaggerIsle totally agree about Kate and Nathan...

Nathan treated Hannah like crap anytime she shower she was vulnerable. Then behaved like a puppy when she was strong and back in charge.

Kate was really weird especially given her occupation.

Yellownightmare · 11/04/2022 23:44

I seem to be the only one that thinks Hannah is spoilt and self obsessed. She encouraged Christie to hang round her, while trying to get Nathan to wreck his relationship with Kate. It's like she wants to keep them both on ice until she decides if she wants either of them.

And then saying to Rose that she knows just how she feels because she's not with Nathan. Awful.

DaggerIsle · 12/04/2022 00:52

I don't think she was trying to get Nathan to wreck his relationship! He threw his relationship in her face from the off go, insisted on showing up for an overnight stay in the marital house with GF playing hostess and staying over.
He seemed very resentful of Kate. His 'forgiveness' of her all her slights, which he even admitted she wasn't even aware of, was incredibly manipulative.
It basically looked like he wanted a clever pretty GF as revenge, got in over his head with the unexpected pregnancy and had massive regrets.
Hannah didn't really have much to do with it.
She clearly fancied/fancies Christie more. She also liked her comfortable family life and the companionship Nathan offered- she was sad about it ending but was ultimately very clear that it was for the best.
She even went to get Kate back!

DaggerIsle · 12/04/2022 00:55

I mean resentful of Hannah. That forgiveness moment was obv with Hannah. Incidentally the thought of my partner silently judging me and watching me fail random 'rests' he'd come up unbeknownst to me, would be enough to put me off a man for years.
Talk about self-righteous martyr syndrome.

Alcoh · 12/04/2022 21:12

Ok so what I don’t get is why we should like Hannah at all. She comes over very sympathetically but is living a lie with her kids that it is all Nathan’s fault when it was her that started the affair. Maybe this has been covered but I don’t get how she can watch her kids hate their dad when it was her fault to start with…

You didn't think the way she behaved at the book launch was poor? And how she behaved towards Kate when her beef shouldn't have been with her but with Nathan if anyone.

I also thought in the previous series she wanted everything her way. And let's face it she hadn't really been hiding her relationship with Christie before he went to NY.

Anyfeckinusername · 13/04/2022 07:44

Hannah’s trench coat! I’m in love!

DaggerIsle · 13/04/2022 11:29

@Yellownightmare I agree her behaviour at that event wasn't ideal but she was drunk, had been totally insensitive to her sister, last time she'd seen Kate had been at the dinner and she'd since found out there was a baby coming.

I'm not saying Hannah is the best character either, I think ultimately she and Nathan were an 'OK' couple but never totally suited for each other.
She would have been better off screwing up a youthful relationship with Christie and settling down with Nathan (or a Nathan-like) in her 30s.
I also feel she was cast in a mother/responsible adult role by her mother and sisters and had to disappear into that role at the expense of her true personality.
The way she told Liv to just live and not worry about mistakes and explore life etc to me was what she wished she had done.

Yep. Agree with all of this.

Yellownightmare · 13/04/2022 12:06

As if we know them Grin

DaggerIsle · 13/04/2022 12:44

I know. They're all slightly terrible but in a relatable way.
They feel like old friends/family.

JanisMoplin · 13/04/2022 13:05

Goldie was great. I would have liked to see her new toy boy. ( how was he so rich at 29) and hung out with her.

mum2jakie · 13/04/2022 22:30

Just finished the whole series. Loved it!!! I may need to rewatch all three series now though...

MissMarpleRocks · 14/04/2022 07:54

Dislike Christie. Immensely. He’s not good enough for Hannah, he doesn’t see todays Hannah but Hannah from their law school years. I used to be a family lawyer. My offices, life, income & clients were so removed from NHD. No way I could have afforded that house, clothes & lifestyle.

I would have liked for them to show Hannah having a drink with that other solicitor who represented Felix. If she didn’t end up with Nathan.

Don’t get Nathan with Kate at all. Him with Hannah was more realistic. Kate was immensely irritating character- I had a few experts who were know all’s in theory but not in real life. Probably why she irritated me so much.

I’d like to have seen their alternative ending I think.

Nina didn’t seem to like herself which is why I think she goes for ‘bad boys’ Melanie was right with her advice. Great acting by Anna C there.

What was Melanie’s advice re Nina?

And 100% agree that Kate’s character was scripted to be that infuriating self righteous expert type who dish it out to others but are unable to walk the talk in their own personal lives.

She seemed very brittle to me and totally hypocritical to actively bring a child into the works by getting pregnant in an new risky/unstable relationship with a married man with kids whilst writing books and having a career around child emotional security etc as well as haranguing Hannah for being a working mother.

StrangeCondition · 14/04/2022 09:52

Not sure I missed something in the last few series but why did everyone always seem to be in Hannah/Nathan's house when neither of them were there? I know Rose looked after the kids a few times but Ruth always seemed to be there too whenever Hannah was coming home, sometimes Nina

StrangeCondition · 14/04/2022 09:55

in the last series, not the last few series eye roll*

shreddednips · 14/04/2022 12:08

I just finished it, the ending was so unsatisfying. I can't decide whether Nathan and Hannah should have ended up together, but he should never have settled for Kate just because he couldn't have Hannah (and Kate shouldn't have settled for being his second choice.) And Hannah shouldn't have engineered it at the end because he doesn't really want Kate.

All the characters were deeply flawed, but I did rather want everything to end up alright for them. With Hannah it's clear that she will make a good life for herself after the divorce- I'm glad that they didn't have full Christy knocking on her door at the end because the whole point was that the bright spot of the divorce was it was sort of a clean slate to build a new future filled with possibilities that aren't apparent when you're in the thick of it. But it's impossible not to see Kate and Nathan ending up together and not feel dissatisfied for them, especially as Kate was deliberately created as a character you're supposed to dislike.

Elements were ridiculous- the Leni storyline, Nathan still living in Hannah's family's pocket with the camping etc and the flat business. But I still lapped it up 😁

Yes, Kate scripted to be the pantomime villain I thought - so evoking more sympathy for Hannah. It worked on me!

Heythere13 · 14/04/2022 19:35

Anyone totally distracted by the dark circles under the eldest daughter’s eyes?!!

@Heythere13

Anyone totally distracted by the dark circles under the eldest daughter’s eyes?!!
Yes. I have similar circles but I am 50. Was it stoner chic?
Heythere13 · 14/04/2022 19:48

They need a new make up artist!

Yes! I talked about this earlier in the thread and posted a picture of the actress (minus bags) - must have been an attempt to make her look like a teenage stoner?
Hillscoveredwithsnow · 14/04/2022 21:14

Nicola Walker's look at the camera at the end!😍

Eesha · 15/04/2022 12:11

I loved this show, Nicola Walker is so incredibly watchable, I could watch anything with her. I think the ending worked as life isn't full of neat endings.
