It's back. I struggled to get in to series 1 at first, but then I got hooked. I am so ready for this escapist drama.

I think it’s ridiculous to expect no spoilers for Netflix shows. How else would people discuss it?

It used to be perfectly possible for people to discuss episodes or the series without posting spoilers. It's also reasonable to only expect discussion of episode 1 or 2 when we're only a few days in.

I know I'm being grumpy about this, but it keeps happening. The discussion gets split and you don't get to enjoy the same level of discussion. MN doesn't attract enough participants to support lots of different threads.

I started this thread and now someone's put Contains Spoilers but I don't want to be spoiled. Grrr.

I’m annoyed too! I only just saw the title update. There were some discussions about vague plot changes but please no one put what actually happens in the episodes and how!!!

I am actually shocked people don’t think there’s chemistry.
They are on fire. God that scene on the hunt/the study/his house.
It is a super slow burn and I’m really disappointed with ep6 which was so dragged out and boring. I hate a lot of the book changes. Too little sex but when it came it was hot!
They are both gorgeous people.
It could have been better but tbh I found s1 sex romping a bit cringe.

PrinzessinCressida · 28/03/2022 21:50

Having binge-watched it on Friday and felt a little disappointed and like it was less good than season 1, I've now rewatched parts and it has really grown on me. The parallelism between Kate's and Anthony's duty-driven lives, the way they very gradually soften towards others and one another, the chemistry and super, super slow burn... There were parts that I found moving and very romantic. And while the sex is less explicit and less in quantity than S1 (although I, for one, am always happy to see a man's head between a woman's legs Wink) there are some incredibly charged scenes between them. I mean, like absolute cold shower stuff. I think it more than delivers on all Bridgerton fronts.

I'm hoping for Benedict next because there is just SOMETHING about Luke Thompson, isn't there? My goodness. Plus I have read a summary of his love story and already on paper it sounds like it's got massive potential.

I got the feeling that the pre-epilogue scenes during the party fireworks focused each on Eloise, Benedict, Colin and Penelope in order to get us guessing who might be next.

I've always maintained that one of the hottest scenes in S1 was on the bridge, in broad daylight, with both the Duke and Daphne fully clothed, the mammas a few paces behind, and the whole ton around them. Closely followed by the scene in the museum.

There is a lot of sexiness of that kind in S2, as well.

Luke Thompson really does have a quality! I love Benedict's story too.

I think they might run some of the stories concurrently across the next couple of seasons. I'm rewatching season 2 and I love the development of the wider characters, Lady Danbury, Queen Charlotte, Violet, there are some lovely scenes with those three. Season 1 could stand alone but I think season 2 has needed to open up some other story lines so they can be carried through the next few seasons. I'm already excited for Season 3!

PrinzessinCressida · 28/03/2022 23:11

Yes, the way older women are portrayed in both seasons is such a joy, isn't it? Their wisdom, confidence and camaraderie seems a good enough trade-off for the girls' youth and beauty. I love that. It's one of the Bridgerton USPs - amidst all the froth and frills and historical inaccuracies (I mean, has Hyde Park ever looked like THAT? Perhaps it has) there are some life truth gems.

ouch321 · 29/03/2022 03:17

Apparently Phoebe, who plays Daphne, says she may not return for further seasons as per the papers.

I quite enjoyed Lady Featherington's story and the way that wrapped up in ep8.

Clothes lovely as usual. It's an aesthetically pleasing show generally.

Hope El and Pen resolve their spat next season.

"The couples are not secrets though and the books have been out for about 20 years - my copy of the books has the couples named on the cover (eg The Viscount who Loved Me; Anthony and Kate's Story)"

Well they were to those of us who haven't read the books!

Not now though!

WashedupTroll · 29/03/2022 07:38

Well they were to those of us who haven't read the books!

It was obvious from the horse ride scene in the first episode what would happen. But then I don't think you can have spoilers in Bridgeton really.

Ive decided I don't like this series because I can't want Kate to get with the Viscount as it means hurting her sister who I like.

Trixiefirecracker · 29/03/2022 07:38

I have to admit Lady Danbury does annoy me somewhat with her postulating and over-acting. Cracking eyebrows though!

kavalkada · 29/03/2022 07:57

Why Anthony is much better than Simon:

Simon: "I burn for you".

Anthony: "Do you think that there is a corner of this earth that you could travel to far away enough to free me from this torment"

"I have never known anyone like you, its maddening how much your existence consumes my very being"

"You are the bane of my existence, and the object of all my desires. Night and day I dream of you"

"My honour is hanging by a rope that grows more precarious with every moment I spend in your presence"

" I know I am imperfect, but I will humble myself before you because I cannot imagine my life without you and that is why I wish to marry you"

" Say you do not care for me, tell me you feel nothing and I will walk away"

"Do you even know all the ways a lady can be seduced? The things I could teach you.."

"Just keep looking at me. No one else matters"

Waiting till kids go to bed so I can watch it again.

YetDespiteTheLookOnMyFace · 29/03/2022 07:58

I really S2. I thought I preferred S1 so went back and rewatched the whole thing but now I’m fairly sure I prefer S2!

diddl · 29/03/2022 08:08

"It was obvious from the horse ride scene in the first episode what would happen."

Yes but I'm not referring to Daphne & Simon or Kate & Anthony.

Another couple has been mentioned & as far as I know, one of them hasn't even been in the Netflix series yet!

And I thought that this thread was about the Netflix series, not the books!

Yeah, the writing was on the wall for Kanthony from that horse riding bit. It was obvious!

Enjoyed it though, and I hope Eloise & Penelope make friends again next season.

Notonthestairs · 29/03/2022 08:27

"Another couple has been mentioned & as far as I know, one of them hasn't even been in the Netflix series yet!"

When the next series comes out there will be wall to wall coverage of the new couple. You won't be able to escape it. Even the ordinarily benign Radio Times had a 6 page spread detailing the relationships.

I've watched all of S2 now and I also prefer it to S1. I really enjoyed Edwina's character development and I think I've got a hint of how things might go for Penelope. The actress playing the Queen does an amazing job considering she also has to manage those vast wigs.
And the flowers - so beautiful. Their flower budget must be enormous!

diddl · 29/03/2022 09:39

"When the next series comes out there will be wall to wall coverage of the new couple."

Well that won't matter now as I've already read it on this thread!

LadyTwinkle · 29/03/2022 09:51

Granted I'm only on episode 2. But is Anthony supposed to be desirable? I feel like he has more red flags than a game of Minesweeper.

He realty does doesn’t he 😂

I feel like he gets better but they could have shown some more kind sides to him.

Different century so they’re all a bit awful really.

BiscuitLover3678 · 29/03/2022 09:55

It’s much slower this series and less fun, but yes the slow burn! Actually found it much more, ahem, heated than series 1 with the less sex.

I wonder how they’ll do series 3, quite curious now.

WashedupTroll · 29/03/2022 09:56

To the pp that mentioned Eloise hand gestures, I hadn't noticed but now it's distracting. Damm you. Grin

More red flags than the Russian Army here.
PrinzessinCressida · 29/03/2022 11:05

@kavalkada

Exactly! I can hear each of those in my head.

Those of you who see red flags, where do you see them? Asking genuinely and happy to be corrected. I see a young man who suffered a very traumatic event and could not receive the support he needed afterwards, because his remaining parent was equally traumatised, and who has had to cope from too much responsibility from a very young age and has therefore developed some less than ideal coping mechanisms. But proper red flags? We all have baggage.

They fuck you up, your mum and dad. They do not mean to, but they do. And on and on it goes, alas.

PrinzessinCressida · 29/03/2022 11:06

@ChardonnaysPetDragon the phrase "More red flags than the Russian Army here." is really making me laugh, though.

The red flags I've noticed so far, (based on what I've seen of episode 1 and part of episode 2.) I mean it's all about him isn't it? He has unrealistic expectations about what he wants in a wife. It's all about his potential brides accomplishments. And nothing about what he could offer a wife. He just arrogantly assumes any women would want to marry him. And on that basis he just assumes Edwina would want to marry him without considering any of her other options, to the point he pushes in front of her other suiters, as if their getting married was a forgone conclusion. He doesn't even bring so much as a bunch of flowers with him.
