I'm cautiously optimistic. He looks right and it looks suitably nuts so it might just work!

I'm looking forward to this! Love the books, Tom Cruise was just the complete opposite of who Reacher should be, this guy looks better, maybe still not quite gnarly enough though...

HenriettaTriceratops · 29/01/2022 07:57

Smurf I agree Tom Cruise was terrible casting, just so wrong for the part. But this guy Alan Ritchson looks a lot closer to how I imagined him.
The first series is based on his first book, The Killing Floor, so plenty of material if it is successful.

I saw this advertised before Christmas but want sure when it was being released.

HenriettaTriceratops · 29/01/2022 08:25

Around its 4th Feb. Not long to wait to find out if it's any good.

He looks so much more convincing than little weedy Tom Cruise! It's always incensed me that he was so arrogant he thought he could play the part, when all the books - pretty much from their first page - emphasise how tall, well built and strong Jack Reacher is.

FirstGenerationMortificado · 29/01/2022 16:43

I kind of like Tom Cruise as Reacher but agree TC doesn’t match the book’s description. Excited to see how this one goes.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 29/01/2022 17:26

Is it one episode a week like the olden days?

HenriettaTriceratops · 29/01/2022 17:32

Agree First, if it had just been A N Other action film TC was fine. But he was not Reacher.

Around it's on Prime so I assume it will all be on at once.

The books are a guilty pleasure of mine and that TV show looks like the TV equivalent Grin

Can't wait! Will reinstate Prime just to watch it I think

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 29/01/2022 17:38

I read all the Reacher books, until Tom Cruise played him and then I couldn't anymore. Even though I didn't watch the film, just having seen the trailers distorted my mental image when I was reading. Maybe if I watch the series then I might be able to get back into the books.

Geektown says all at once.

I have basically ignored the TC film to preserve the image I have in my head of Reacher. It's worked so far!

The trouble is, I got so cross with Lee Child for basically selling out to TC that it also put me off reading his books.

And now he's handed over to his brother to write them, I feel a bit fobbed of as well.

Hmm
Aroundtheworldin80moves · 29/01/2022 19:15

I haven't been able to read the last two books. The second to last as the plot was too out there. The current one because its Reacher narrating. It doesn't feel right.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 29/01/2022 20:29

I remember Lee Child did a Q&A on MN and lots of people mentioned the Tom Cruise thing and he basically said that it was fine that Tom Cruise was tiny because he was such a good actor that you didn't notice. Hmm I lost a LOT of respect for him with that one statement. I would have had more respect if he'd just said that Cruise had made him an offer that made him so rich that he couldn't refuse.

HenriettaTriceratops · 29/01/2022 21:02

Money talks, for sure. It's a shame really but I'm still hopeful for this series. Bring it back for us, Lee!

Lee Child didn’t come off too well in some media bits did he. It put me off his books so I haven’t read the last few.

Hoping this series will rescue it somewhat as I really did used to enjoy reading the books.

Not sure about the actor though. He’s too young, too clean and too cocky I think. But better than Tom Cruise.

Useranon1 · 30/01/2022 14:22

He's 40! About right I think. But agree looks too clean. And too muscley. The impression i always got was Reacher's height stood out because he was a bit lanky, but because he was massive all overs

Useranon1 · 30/01/2022 14:22

*not because he was massive all over

BIWI · 30/01/2022 16:37

He is massive all over though - this is from Wiki in a piece about Jack Reacher/Lee Child:

^portrayed as a blond, 6 ft 5 in (1.96 m) tall, 250-pound man6

Same. Totally spoilt it I felt the same when he played Stacey Jaxx in rock of ages. Grin

Fair enough! Guess just my picturing was of lanky
Deauville12422 · 31/01/2022 10:22

@Useranon1 you are right about the age. For some reason I have always pictured him as being older.

Alan Ritchson makes me think of John Cena.

eurochick · 31/01/2022 10:35

I'm rereading the first book at the moment and it mentions Reacher comes out of the army at 36, so the actor is about right in terms of age.

ToastandJamandTea · 31/01/2022 10:41

I think Alan Ritchson will be great. Really enjoyed him as Hawk in Titans. TC was just too arrogant in his pursuit of the role that I couldn't enjoy it.
