I'm cautiously optimistic. He looks right and it looks suitably nuts so it might just work!

I was definitely watching the same thing Grin. It was tosh. I appreciate that I’m in a minority though as it was highly rated on IMDB and fans of the books loved it, so I’m not the demographic. I didn’t read the books but DH and DS2 did (both loved the tv show and said it was fairly true to the novels from what they could remember of them).

Of course it was tosh @BalladOfBarryAndFreda. But it is brilliant tosh Grin

@Wykid

I read The Killing Floor many years ago but from what I recall, this series was well made

Love the new reacher he’s much better than Tom Cruise but a bit too pretty. As someone else said, I’d pictured Reacher looking more like Lee Child himself. (Great cameo)

I could have written this ^. 😀

I've gone back and reread the book. FWIW, the TV show is Reacher-lite, or lo-fat Reacher. It's not a bad attempt, about 60% of the way there, and perfectly watchable IMO.

BIWI · 23/02/2022 10:01

It's ages since I've read the book @MaMaLa321 - what would you say is missing in the TV series?

MaMaLa321 · 23/02/2022 10:18

The essence of Reacher I guess. Someone that you never know how they're going to behave, unless you get to know them well, which very few people do. More of a Vinnie Jones than the actor on TV.
That said, I'm enjoying the TV, it's doing the best it can, given that the book is written in the 1st person, so, on screen, too much time has to be spent on exposition which, on the page, is internal.

BIWI · 23/02/2022 12:08

Interestingly, though, not all the books are written in the first person. Lee Childs switches between the two. I never really understood why - but having read a piece about him recently, where he talks about never plotting a story, but just starting to write, that could explain it. It could just be all about how he feels on the day!

MaMaLa321 · 23/02/2022 12:51

yes, they vary don't they (I've read all of them, and this has set me off reading them again)?
I'd recommend the Mumsnet webchat with Lee Childs, he's a great interviewee and apparently comes on MN.

I read a few of the books - enjoyable holiday reads. Agree he is much better in the role than TC. Spotted the diner cameo but couldn’t work out what LC said. Can anyone let me know please?

beguilingeyes · 10/10/2022 09:50

In my head when I started reading them years ago, I imagined Dolph Lundgren when he was in the Rocky film. It does occur to me that Reacher basically looks like Lee Child.

beguilingeyes · 10/10/2022 10:00

Quite gutted that they're not doing Die Trying next. It's my favourite book.
