I'm cautiously optimistic. He looks right and it looks suitably nuts so it might just work!

I think Reacher in here is a bit more humorous which I'm not sure about but actor definitely better.

I didn't even finish the second last book. But I did read somewhere that the second last one was appalling but the most recent one has redeemed himself. So I might get around to reading the last one. I do enjoy a good series of this sort though so am looking forward to watching it.

Thunderface · 31/01/2022 10:43

I'm really looking forward to it. The actor looks like a reasonable fit for Reacher.
I re-read The Killing Floor in anticipation.
It's a good story.
@Useranon1 you are right about the age. For some reason I have always pictured him as being older.

Alan Ritchson makes me think of John Cena.
Yes, that's who he reminds me of! Thank you Deauville, it's been bugging me.

Has anyone tried it yet? Is it good? I’m planning on bingeing at the weekend?

InTheCludgie · 04/02/2022 16:44

Same Deauville12422, I'll start watching it tomorrow night with DH. I've read about 7 of the books so far and while I've never really had an image of Reacher in my head as such, I felt that TC just wasn't right in the film so looking forward to this. Hope it's good!

NightmareSlashDelightful · 04/02/2022 17:05

It'll be interesting to see how the series translates to TV. If they follow the books there'll never be much of a core cast besides Reacher himself, so it would be almost an anthology-type show. You'd have a good opportunity to cast some big names in the supporting roles, but not have to keep them on for several series.

But then people like characters they can get invested in on TV so the writers might introduce other rolling characters, diverging from the books in that way.

I'm hoping for good things, I really like the books and I think Alan Ritchson looks like a good Reacher.

First one is tonight I think. Let's see!

Loving it so far. Like the humour. Its well cast. Huge Reacher fan here, have read all the books several times. The one co-written by Lee Child's brother was a shocker. So bad. Not Reacher at all. Never watched the TC films as couldn't bear to. He is certainly nothing like Reacher.

Campervan69 · 04/02/2022 20:28

Just spotted Guillermo the familiar from What We Do in the Shadows in a supporting role.

WomblingWilma · 05/02/2022 14:51

Just binge watched! Loved it. Alan Ritchson was great and much more believable than TC! He’s gorgeous too, too gorgeous, they should have made him look more craggyGrin.

Hope they carry on and make seasons out of all the books but they have to keep the same actor!

I'm forcing myself not to binge it.
Mumsnut · 05/02/2022 15:33

He still isn’t Reacher in my mind - Reacher should be colder and a little deader in the eyes I reckon - but better than TC by miles. The3 whole thing is very watchable

Campervan69 · 05/02/2022 18:30

I do agree with you. He's too personable and pretty. I think Henry Cavil in modern Witcher mode might have been better. But I guess he's busy.

eurochick · 05/02/2022 22:43

I've just watched the first episode. Physically I think he's pretty close, other than the hair colour. So much better than Cruise. But since my husband pointed out that he is playing Reacher like he is autistic (Arnold Schwarzenegger crossed with Rainman is how he described it) I can't get that out of my head. He is a little too ... rigid or something compared to how he is written in the books. But it's still very watchable.

Faevern · 05/02/2022 22:57

How has this passed me by? I'm almost scared to watch as I’m a great fan of Reacher and don’t want it spoilt. He looks good enough to pass visually in my head though.

I think he plays him like he's the little brother still somehow. Which is relevant in this storyline I guess. It's not perfect but I am enjoying it a lot.

RuralRita · 05/02/2022 23:34

I loved it! And completely binged!

nzborn · 06/02/2022 00:27

It's great, just finished season one.

FredBair · 06/02/2022 19:15

It's perfect.
The bus, the dusty road into town, the diner, the fights, that humour, and Reacher himself is spot on. Love the blues soundtrack.
DS and I used to bond over Reacher books from when he was about 13 (now 23). We watched this together and both loved it.

MissConductUS · 06/02/2022 19:21

I just finished binging it and it was fab. I heard Lee Child give a talk at a local library about ten years ago and that got me started on the books.

BasiliskStare · 06/02/2022 20:15

I thought this was pretty good - not that keen on main actor as he looked a bit too patrick swayze but he grew on me. But by golly better than TC by a country mile.

I've binge watched it and won definitely watch another. I thought Roscoe was good

BasiliskStare · 06/02/2022 20:16

Oh and loved the Harvard Chief of Police.

deeplyambivalent · 06/02/2022 20:24

Those who have watched it right through: did you spot the little cameo in the diner?

BasiliskStare · 06/02/2022 20:55

I think I did - but won't say in case it amused others - not sure but the short exchange seemed to have no other purpose.

deeplyambivalent · 06/02/2022 21:01

@BasiliskStare I think you got it. ;-)

I really enjoyed the whole thing. Hoping we see more seasons.
