I'm cautiously optimistic. He looks right and it looks suitably nuts so it might just work!

@Campervan69

In the books he buys all his clothes new every time they get dirty. And throws the old ones in a bin. So no, this is a better version.
I think it mentions a few changes in an article linked upthread- one being Reacher buying clothes in a charity shop.
Italiangreyhound · 13/02/2022 20:38

Thanks Campervan69.

Can I ask. Why had Reacher not seen his brother fir years

FredBair · 13/02/2022 21:33

@Italiangreyhound

Rosco is brilliant, brave, strong, fearless, sexually she knows what she wants and goes after him. Nice to have the man being the object of sexual attention, and yet 'curiously ' we still see him as a fully rounded person.

Someone up threat said he was being played 'autistic' bit I'd disagree, I'd say say is he being played 'military'?

I'm curious if this good writing is Lee Child or whoever is writing the for TV version?

I've picked up on a few Thebes - thrift shop (second hand clothes) - environmental? - animal care (the dog) - strong female character who doesn't need protecting etc (Shane there are so few females) ... Is that Lee Child?

All those themes are in the books. Each book has a different strong female character, although Neaghley pops up in several books. The clothes is nothing environmental he just travels with only a toothbrush.
Italiangreyhound · 13/02/2022 23:00

Is that the writer in there!!

MissConductUS · 14/02/2022 00:21

I think the thrift shop is a nod to environmentalism because in the books he'd simply bin his clothes when they were dirty and buy new ones.

DockOTheBay · 14/02/2022 21:13

As he only has a few personal possessions and no home it really really seems totally implausible that he would keep that level of muscle without a gym membership.

I thought this too... someone that muscled would have to be weight training every day, not wandering around and drinking coffee all day

Sidge · 14/02/2022 22:06

I think in Killing Floor he’d headed to Georgia after digging swimming pools in Florida, so that’s why he was tanned and muscly!

Italiangreyhound · 14/02/2022 22:07

Yes, my husband mentioned the fact he wasn't going to the gym!

Italiangreyhound · 14/02/2022 22:09

I was surprised to see someone I thought Reacher had shot was at the final show down!

Italiangreyhound · 14/02/2022 22:55

I must admit I quite like the fact Reacher is so ruthless. He kills the baddies, he doesn't arrest them or give them a second chance to kill him (mostly). But I did think it was a bit too violent fir my liking.

Watching Oscar Finlay (played by Malcolm Goodwin) keeps making me think of Billy Crystal in When Harry met Sally.

HenriettaTriceratops · 15/02/2022 09:50

I'm so happy that this seems to be broadly a success. Hopefully many more series staring at Reacher's arms to come!

Oh yes those biceps! I was astounded 🥰

LaurieFairyCake · 15/02/2022 11:27

I really enjoyed this series, funny and well acted

And I'd climb Reacher like a tree Wink

MaMaLa321 · 17/02/2022 09:42

I enjoyed the first episode, though Reacher and the other characters do a heck of a lot more explaining than in the books, for obvious reasons but it feels a bit clunky. It comes across like Sherlock Holmes USA, when, in the books, most of it is internal.
I've read all of them, but started to dislike the gory bits, which steadily got worse and worse. When I saw a bit coming, I'd jump it. I'm not sure how I'll feel about seeing some of it on screen.
He's a decent Reacher, but not quite battered enough, and too muscly. Reacher is just big.

charliebear78 · 17/02/2022 17:04

I agree.
I also thought it was abit clichéd and cheesy in places.
I did like the humour and the three main characters.

NatashaBedwouldbenice · 18/02/2022 09:52

I have no prior knowledge of Reacher at all. I enjoyed this. It was a bit ridiculous at times, but in a very enjoyable, pantomime way. The death count was high, made me think I was watching a computer game at times.

Classica · 18/02/2022 21:39

I have just finished this series. Have never read the books so didn't have any preconception of what he should be like or what should happen. I wad convinced the wife/mum character was going to turn out to be a baddie in a 'brains of the operation' kinda way. But no Grin

NatashaBedwouldbenice · 19/02/2022 09:29

I'm not sure about the portrayal of women really. Roscoe had some good anti-trope moments. Neagley was admirable but not really fleshed out.

I don't think it passed the Bechdel test did it?

Dimensions3 · 19/02/2022 10:42

I don't think it passed the Bechdel test did it?

I think it did but I’ve only just googled the Bechdel test - so don’t know much about it.

episode 6 Roscoe and Charlie (woman) have a conversation in the cabin about Charlie’s children’s nightmares and Roscoe talks about her own nightmares and how her mee-maw (grandma) reading Harry Potter to her at bedtime helped her cope with the nightmares.

Pass or fail?

I haven’t watched past Episode 6

Wykid · 19/02/2022 15:59

I read The Killing Floor many years ago but from what I recall, this series was well made

Love the new reacher he’s much better than Tom Cruise but a bit too pretty. As someone else said, I’d pictured Reacher looking more like Lee Child himself. (Great cameo)

MaMaLa321 · 19/02/2022 17:37

A while ago MN did a webchat with Lee Childs and he came across very well.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 19/02/2022 17:51

DH watched this, I was also in the room doing other things (aka titting about on the ‘net). Bloody hell it was dreadful. Embarrassingly dreadful. Every second sentence was about how enormous the bloke was. I mean don’t get me wrong, he’s tall but not gawp-in-the street-tall.

Men having the audacity to take the piss out of fluffy chick lit when they consume this drivel is hilarious.

BIWI · 19/02/2022 19:14

Were you really watching the same thing, @BalladOfBarryAndFreda?!

StationaryMagpie · 19/02/2022 19:57

i'm not sure she was, li oved Reacher! So much better than the TC film.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 20/02/2022 16:16
