It was a brilliant turn by Maureen Lipman (and a very swiftly negotiated and scripted one to cover for the absence of Julie Goodyear!)

thenightsky · 03/03/2023 21:55

I think Julie Goodyear was meant to come back properly, but realised she couldn't cope with the increased number of showings per week and intense schedule, so ducked out. Don't blame her.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 03/03/2023 22:01

Yes, that’s right. Eve was axed to make way, which I think was a great shame considering how things turned out.

As I understand it, Bet was always supposed to lose the court case - hence she would have to accept Fred’s offer to manage The Rovers after all. They rewrote it to have her disappear back to Brighton and for Lilian to come in in the hope that Julie Goodyear would come back after some time off. Also, I don’t know if I’ve remembered this properly, but I think the Les and Janice one night stand storyline was quickly written as filler to replace the court case scenes.

OnTheBoardwalk · 04/03/2023 08:41

Ok that makes sense with Eve's quick departure and personality transplant

also explains the confusing scenes where they just said 'Bet lost the case and is gone' then just carried on chatting - thanks for the info

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 04/03/2023 09:51

The sad thing is that, even though a lot of people said Granada were mad to bring Bet back (Julie Goodyear having something of a reputation for being difficult to work with), I think it could actually have worked, based on her scenes with Rita. There was potential there.

In today’s episode of Classic Coronation Street, Ashley is embarrassed to realise Maxine has come dressed as a box of Cadbury’s Roses.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 09/03/2023 20:31

You see, this is also what I love about Classic Corrie, the fashion, hair styles, cars the whole lot. Takes me right back !

For over 20 years now I’ve been wondering why Richard’s mother didn’t paint the picture rail before she had the carpet fitted.

In today's edition of “Ooh, what’s (s)he been in?”, Derek’s trollop was Rosie Banks in Brookside.

Housewife2010 · 10/03/2023 17:29

Can't bear Doreen and her overacting.
Gail has been wearing my lilac Jigsaw cardigan again today.

GreenClock · 13/03/2023 13:14

Brian Capron’s scene in the flat with Malcolm Hebdon was so nuanced and brilliant. It’s such a shame that CS went downhill, the difference in quality is remarkable. I watched a couple of episodes recently because I had heard that Spider, Debbie and Stephen were back, but even these old faces couldn’t save it.

Ahhh yes. I knew I knew her

Guacamole001 · 13/03/2023 16:41

Not watched it for a month or so as been too busy but I plan to start watching it again tonight as have put it on record.

BeggyMitchell · 13/03/2023 17:43

Omg I had that top that Maxine's wearing today - it was from Oasis (!)

I saw a top I had from next on Eve and a jumper on Karen 🤣🤣🤣 I’m loving Karen’s hair do, version of Victoria Beckham’s from back in the day ! Takes you right back !

She's doing my head in too, straight out of the Julie Goodyear school of acting.

Housewife2010 · 13/03/2023 21:38

Gail's cardigan today is a silk one from Jigsaw. I had it in red, but I didn't wear it with a white t shirt like Gail. I just wore it as a top with my favourite Jigsaw skirt. I was such a Jigsaw fan in those days.
Charlie kept wearing a light grey/charcoal reversible jumper from Next.

One of the Aussie back packers used to be in Neighbours

Gail and Richards wedding looked fun

thimblewomble879 · 15/03/2023 15:37

Although it seemed to finish very early
