Hayley is looking really pregnant now !

whomoon · 06/10/2022 13:32

Is anyone grossed out by how Martin shows his affection by draping his arms around Sally’s neck, or by resting his hands on her shoulders? Looks like a real letch 🤢

whomoon · 06/10/2022 13:38

The Sarah story with the CPS not charging the man for keeping her hostage in his house. The fact her own parents are telling her that people will see it as Sarah being a slapper going off with a dirty old man… how times have changed! The fact they don’t see it as grooming and it’s all the victims fault. Incredible watching these old episodes and seeing society’s attitudes

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 09/10/2022 06:46

Martin is totally gross. He wouldn’t leave Sally alone even when she said she didn’t want to date. He doesn’t give a shite about her friendship with Gail. He was awful during the Rebecca storyline too. Ugh.

Agreed

I was about 20/21 when these scenes were first aired and now I can’t believe the actress playing Hayley is in her 30s. I know it’s how the designers style her but she always looks so old!

When did Corrie get so shit? Trying to think of the last really good storyline that felt real and authentic.

eggandonion · 09/10/2022 08:33

Richard Hillman and the train crash were the early horrors? The hospital was much busier when Martin and Rebecca worked in it.

I think it just got progressively worse and story lines got more and more outlandish and into the realms of fantasy it's such a shame because you can see it coming in classic corrie m

She was born in 1970 so she was actually in her 20’s when she joined the show. They did manage to make her look a lot older. Alma mentioned her being in her 20’s when she was first in the soap and I was surprised that she was supposed to be that young

the other thing I notice about Classic Corrie ( which may be changing about now, not sure) is how much they filmed off set. There must have been more money in those days I guess but we had scenes in parks, camp sites, markets, hotels, the lakes, even France! Now it’s just on the street all the time apart from an occasional hotel.

I only catch modern corrie now and again, but classic was literally just the street although they expanded out a bit with the health centre, now they have a Costa, co op etc .

eggandonion · 09/10/2022 09:33

Nobody ever meets anyone in the coop or Costa though, and nobody seems to have a costa cup now. They still support Dev, with the occasional mention of Freshco, and spend a fortune in Roys for slap up feeds. The bistro and Speed daal and Debbie's hotel, along with prison and the private hospital room are the current meeting places, plus the weird factory.
The health centre was excellent, but at least the Rovers is making a come back. It should do morning coffee with nice scones.

Ah i don't watch it very often but I happened catch it when Leanne was arguing with Spider and she was carrying a co op bag and a Costa cup 🤣

I think those places are for the sponsorship more than anything else, I don’t think anyone ever been shown inside either of those establishments!
I love that about classic Corrie, quite a few scenes in the open air, sallys market stall, the red rec which no one goes to now, the
recent campsite and Lake District trip. It’s like their lives were bigger than one street back in the day but they’re not now. Even Chester worked on a market stall away from the street, which hasn’t been shown yet so it must have been fairly recent that they stopped any off set filming

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 09/10/2022 12:01

Apparently the precinct set will debut soon - I imagine we’ll see a lot of scenes there.

The reality is that, if the Co-Op and Costa had opened up around the corner, Dev and Roy would be panicking about the future of their businesses. They don’t even appear to have noticed!

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 09/10/2022 13:01

The thing is even when they have a good storyline that could be authentic they fuck it up with outlandish embellishments/endings. E.g. Geoff and Yasmeen - coercive control storyline was excellent, then they had the ridiculous falling off the roof ending instead of him just going to jail. Also Seb being murdered was a powerful storyline until they introduced the ‘wrong person being imprisoned for it’ usual crap

I loved the firmans freezers shop, I used to use a horrible shop like that when I was in my twenties. Reg and Maureen and Maud were great.

Yes I agree!
ive loved watching bar actress go to restaurants in classic Corrie as well. Off the top of my head recently there’s been bobbie and Steve, Roy and Hayley, Mike and Linda, Mike and alma, Deidre and someone, Karen and Steve and definitely more. It really feels more nuanced, to see someone’s relationship develop via a one on one social occasion, like life is, rather than just in houses or flats. I suppose we have the bistro but then that just becomes a default place to go and characters always bump into someone they know and it becomes a wider scene. I love the 121 restaurant scenes. I wish Corrie was as good now as it used to be. I’m also reply missing Neighbours so classic Corrie is filling a gap for me that modern Corrie can’t fill

Anytimeiseeit · 09/10/2022 18:32

“Characters” not bar actress 😳

eggandonion · 09/10/2022 20:18

Haunted phone! I was trying to work out the bar staff.

FeltCarrot · 10/10/2022 19:23

Have never noticed the wall round the corner from Devs shop before🤔

whomoon · 12/10/2022 13:03

I was wondering how Linda would exit, knowing she was pregnant and would be leaving soon.
She obviously had to leave sooner than they’d planned as her body double that Mike was dragging out the hotel wasn’t a convincing ending!

shame, that could’ve been an explosive exit. Her character definitely deserved it, I thought she was a fantastic actress and character

Trees6 · 12/10/2022 13:47

I’ve just watched the body double scenes (bathroom and car park). They looked very awkward. It was definitely her voice though.

It’s a shame that Jacqueline Pirie couldn’t film a fitting ending, in their flat or in the factory, because she was a brilliant actor and seemed to have enjoyed working with Johnny Briggs.
