Vera looks different. I wonder if she's had botox or a mini face lift.

I wondered that!
She looks like she's struggling to move her face muscles!

I can’t get over the fact Hayley came in off the street and started making butties without washing her hands!

Oh yes... I noticed that too. Mucky woman.

I've surprised myself with how annoying I'm finding Rita at the moment. I don't recall disliking her back in the day. Now, I'm cringing at her daft posh accent when with Anthony.

Housewife2010 · 04/05/2022 06:39

Re the above, I was just going to comment about Rita's posh accent when she's with the lovely Anthony. It will be Barbara Knox's real accent. I've always liked the actor John Quayle who plays Anthony. He was James Bellamy's frlend Bunny in the sublime Upstairs Downstairs.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 04/05/2022 08:48

Frank Skinner did a brilliant skit of Rita and Anthony. I wish I could find it on YouTube😄

Of course! I thought he looked familiar - of course he was Bunny!

I loved Upstairs Downstairs. I must seek it out.

i'd love to see that Grin

GreenClock · 04/05/2022 18:21

Upstairs Downstairs is one of my favourites. I’ve seen it so many times. I really liked the Bunny character. He’s pretty much an early C20 version of Anthony, but a Lord not a bookseller!

I tend to confuse the actor with the one who played Hastings alongside David Suchet’s Poirot.

This storyline is handled better than the similar one 15 years later when Eileen fell for that firefighter whose wife was ill. I bet Frank Skinner was funny on the subject though!

FlibbertyGibbitt · 04/05/2022 19:06

Ahhh I loved Upstairs Downstairs! It was on Gold on a Sunday morning a few years back. Anyway just here to say that I can’t get over David as to how he is now ! Got big bouffant hair now !

Upstairs Downstairs has just finished a rerun on ITV3 and Talking Pictures. All the episodes (even the early b&w ones) are currently on ITV Hub. It's my all time favourite TV series and I still swoon at lovely Simon Williams as James Bellamy.

eggandonion · 04/05/2022 19:54

James was a great heart throb.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 05/05/2022 16:24

Doesn’t Graham of Emmerdale fame look young and fresh-faced?

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 06/05/2022 16:56

A haiku in honour of Gary’s departure:

Farewell, poor Gary.
Your wife died while pegging out.
Then you did nothing.

GreenClock · 06/05/2022 17:07

Was the woman who came to view the B&B the same woman who Jack fell for after Vera died? The character was a millionaire businesswoman who had built up enterprises with her late husband. Jack wasn't aware initially that she was rich.

aah , thought she looked familar

Same actress (Rita May), although I don’t know if she’s meant to be the same character. I fondly remember her from my childhood as Mags in ‘Children’s Ward’.

That show was something of a training ground for Corrie in the same way Grange Hill was for EastEnders. Jane Danson, Samia Ghadie, Tina O’Brien and Chris Bisson were all in it to name a few.

Blimey thats a blast from past! Yes I remember her!

OnTheBoardwalk · 06/05/2022 23:02

Ah Mags in children’s ward! That’s where she’s from

i'm liking 'Graham'

am loving David, Sarah and Candice. Really believable compared to Corrie these days which is ridiculous, well apart from Amy and Jacob.

Jacob I’m putting a lot of trust in you

Dajeeling · 11/05/2022 14:18

I remember not being a fan of Candice but her acting with Sarah in this is fantastic. The two of them are very realistic and always make me laugh 😂

thenightsky · 11/05/2022 21:10

Rita's new accent reminds me of Celia Johnson in Brief Encounter!

x2boys · 12/05/2022 17:19

I enjoyed that episode, really good!

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 13/05/2022 15:53

Bit of trivia for you - David Fleeshman, who played the Superintendent, is the father of Richard Fleeshman, who played Craig Harris.

Yes, she’s way above the level of the usual token friend of the teen character.

FourSeasonsTotalLandscaping · 13/05/2022 18:56

Dev is just loathsome isn't he?

I'd forgotten all about the Freshco hold up!
