I’ve just watched it all. I’m a sobbing wreck now.

Anyone else watched?

Oh god not yet. I need to build myself up. We rewatched s1 and s2 last week.

Are we saying yes or no to spoilers on this thread? Just so I know whether to keep reading

Izzy24 · 14/01/2022 14:22

Loved it.

Absolutely loved it.

2022newyrnewme · 14/01/2022 14:28

This is something my x partner and I watched together..I’m not sure I can watch it at the moment, it was sad enough with him around and now🥲 I’ve cried way too much lately

TheDuchessOfMN · 14/01/2022 14:31

I’ll watch it tonight. Can’t wait

FMSucks · 14/01/2022 14:34

I'm going to binge it tonight. I had to put my beloved dog to sleep before Christmas so I'm sure I'm going to be a wreck after it.

Ricky Gervais is a legend. Love everything he does and everything he is.

Livpool · 14/01/2022 14:57

Watched the first 2 episodes on my lunch break and really enjoyed them so looking forward to watching the rest later

WildFlowerBees · 14/01/2022 15:52

Just finished it, made it to episode 5 before blubbing. So good, Ricky Gervais has a great ability to add a lot of emotion without much effort. I loved it.

Snorkelface · 14/01/2022 20:17

Just finished it. Bit of snivelling on and off throughout and then full blown ugly crying for most of the last episode. It's so well done, amazing telly.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 14/01/2022 21:24

Oh God I'm wrung out, so so good.

Ricky Gervais is amazing in this.

The last scene 😭

Flavabobble · 14/01/2022 21:28

I was a bit disappointed...
Found some of the characters and situations clichéd. Same old, same old.
Loved the first two seasons.

Diditopknot · 14/01/2022 21:32

Where was Roxy the sex worker?
Where was she? I bloody loved his relationship with Roxy, no sign of her in it!

Disappointed I am.

NinaDefoe · 14/01/2022 22:04

Yes! Just finished the lot!

Loved the last few episodes, absolutely brilliant. I thought first 3 or so were a bit dull.
Missed Roxy (and Pat - he wasn’t in it much).
Loved seeing so much of Lenny, Matt and especially Kath!
The storyline with Emma was very sad.
Tony’s pain in this series is awful to watch. More so than in series 1&2 I think!

pollygartertidywife · 14/01/2022 22:05

I actually think this is one of the most beautiful things I have ever watched on TV...

I say that as someone who's has never been a R Gervais fan. I was overseas when the Office was on and have never seen an episode... but the snippets did. It endear me..

Beautiful if every heart wrenching, funny-till-my -sides-hurt episode ended in me - a 62 year old organised crime investigator.. who has LITERALLY seen everything.. is reduced to a snivelling snot -fest of years and laughter .

A work of complete and utter perfection.

Well done Mr Gervais.

NinaDefoe · 14/01/2022 22:12

This write-up is quite interesting to read!
It quotes RG explaining the ending in an interview.

Roisin conaty not in it

Sorry but best you don't get hopes up

sma1978 · 14/01/2022 23:12

Just finished all 6, I'm a wreck. Love love love it.

foxlover47 · 15/01/2022 01:25

Just finished .... absolutely sobbing

Rubyyyy · 15/01/2022 01:43

I loved it, he captures grief perfectly. I was sobbing at the end.

CalIie · 15/01/2022 01:54

I really enjoy it but I have a few gripes that detract from the overall quality.

Firstly, I can’t stand the fact he uses the same actors in all his TV shows. I am a long time fan and have watched every TV show he has produced, so it takes away from the realism for me. It would be sooo much better if he had someone else play the wife. Secondly, why is that old lady always on the bench in the graveyard, ready to offer sage advice? Is she there all day every day or something? Finally, the filming of all the memories in near perfect quality doesn’t ring true.

Other than those small faults, it is very enjoyable to watch but not my favourite Gervais production (nothing will beat the XFM days…)

Agreed. Quite a lot of filler (wandering around with music) and I think the ott sexual references were a bit unnecessary. But I felt that about the therapist character in the last series.

You’re right, episodes 1-3 especially.
The thing with the therapist in previous episodes was really clever. It worked because of the shock value - you don’t expect a therapist to be such a disgusting arsehole!
Without him, ‘Ratty and the Nonce’ were just annoying, irrelevant idiots.

secretrugbyfan · 15/01/2022 07:13

Managed to last until the last episode until the tears came...then just full on sobbing.

RG managed to capture so many facets of life with an amazing degree of accuracy......fear, despondency, worry, sadness, but most of all hope.

After Life is brilliantly written, and should be destined for loads of awards. It is one of the best things I have ever seen on the small screen.

Pikaso · 15/01/2022 12:44

I was disappointed. I’d waited so badly for this as the first and second series were masterpieces but this one seemed rushed almost. Key characters gone (Roxy and the mad therapist who was my favourite character). Postman Pat had no meaningful story which is a shame as he was great in the other series. Ratty and The Nonce were just ridiculous. Way over the top and unrealistic.

Even the dog didn’t seem as into it this time around! You could see it constantly looking to its owner/trainer for cues!! This didn’t seem as obvious in the other series.

Bravenheart · 15/01/2022 18:15

SPOILER: Did he commit suicide at the end? Was that what it was hinting at?

VanGoghsDog · 15/01/2022 18:40

@Bravenheart

SPOILER: Did he commit suicide at the end? Was that what it was hinting at?
No, don't think so. More just the beginning of a gentle acceptance of his life with just the dog.
