I’ve just watched it all. I’m a sobbing wreck now.

Anyone else watched?

I thought Brian was absolutely revolting and his disgusting misogyny was difficult to listen to - I skipped a lot of his disgusting speeches.

I loved the world’s worst erotic author - she had me in stitches.

Final episode had me in tears - kids with cancer, how can you not?

ineedsun · 23/01/2022 23:14

@NinaDefoe

Just to add, I’d say it’s regarded as one of the worst things to say to someone here (which is why I guess I only hear it said on programmes like A-L) Interesting that it isn’t a big deal in some parts of the country!
I’m in Yorkshire, most people I know aren’t remotely bothered by it.

Thought I would love it but have just switched it off halfway during episode 3 with the scene in the cafe, I am not a prude by any means but cannot listen to the c word which I hate anymore! Some of it is just vile I have to say and I normally love Ricky Gervais.

I binge watched all of it yesterday and I am still feeling so emotional, it was outstanding!
ilovebagpuss · 30/01/2022 10:06

I loved it. Yes some characters were a bit grim but I think it balanced out the sweeter parts. Brian was a bit pointless really unless to show how a town is made up of all sorts of oddballs.
Kath made me cry at laughter yoga.
I actually loved her saying The C word all the way through that dinner I kept thinking say it!! I thought it was nice at the end when Lenny took a picture to show that was the end of Tony’s story like they did when out interviewing people. I actually liked that I laughed and squirmed and cried made me feel all sorts of things.

JacquelineCarlyle · 30/01/2022 10:19

You've put it much better than I could @ilovebagpuss - totally agree with everything you've said.

Forcedoutoflurking · 31/01/2022 20:50

I thought it had moments of brilliance which kept me watching through the weaker parts. Loved Kath but couldn't believe the scene where shes asked to leave the yoga class. Surely a professional teacher wouldn't do that!

Mistressofnone · 31/01/2022 21:48

Yes what has happened to Roxy? I hope there hasn't been a fall out with Roisin & RG.

Kath was my favourite this series. Her dates were funny.. the second one had potential - just a bit blunt.

Agree about Lisa's constant laughing. I wish he had reflected on some more realistic times too.

Kizty · 07/02/2022 17:37

Finally finished watching this and agree with a lot of the comments on here. Too much videos of RG winding up Lisa and her hysterically laughing. Too much swearing. Too much Brian. Loved the erotic novelist. I liked Kath’s storyline but it was sad. I thought Colleen was nice and deserved better at the end. And what the hec, scattering ashes in the pub? That was just a stupid thing to do, nobody would try to do that.
But overall it was enjoyable watching!

JustDanceAddict · 07/02/2022 18:48

Was no way as good as previous seasons. Some funny bits (c*nt), but it was def time to put it to bed.
I knew his BIL would have a heart attack playing squash - I even said to dh when they stepped onto the court ‘he’s gonna have a heart attack in a minute!’ Bit lazy of Gervais to Use that classic plot device.
Missed Roxy and the new intern was ridix - you don’t randomly get an internship on a paper knowing nothing about journalism.

Bostromani · 17/02/2022 15:57

Binged the final four episodes last night, think I was sobbing constantly for the last two.

Look, Brian is disgusting ..but the reason for that is because he is severely depressed following the cruel treatment by his wife. The kindness Lenny's fiancée showed him, offering to clean his house showed that human kindness is an invaluable quality.

His speech to Pat ' Don't be a slug like me ' explained that he was in a hole that he couldn't get out of, and his response to his humiliation of being abused by ratty and the nonce at the end , only to be rescued by his ex wife and her partner, was quite moving.

The ' lowness' is a theme..Cath, the BIL, Colleen, James ..all suffering.

I thought Diane Morgan was bloody fantastic , the date with the misogynistic mansplaining wanker teacher was upsetting rather than funny..it showed a woman so defeated that she was willing to continue a date with such an awful person.

Yeah, it was incredibly inconsistent and probably an unnecessary third series, but it still made me feel a bit ' alive' if that's a stupid thing to say. Made me thankful for what I've got . gave my partner and daughter a big hug when they came home after I'd finished watching it.

Mrsmadevans · 17/02/2022 16:02

Yes watched it and wept like a baby , honestly Ricky Gervaise is an absolute genius .

JacquelineCarlyle · 18/02/2022 20:08

That's so well put @Bostromani - wish I could articulate things so well as I absolutely agree with all your points!

AuntMasha · 18/02/2022 20:13

I cried at the end too. Kath was great. 😁I know it was a bit schmalzy but still enjoyed it.

Juno22 · 27/02/2022 19:39

I thought the first two series were wonderful. I've suffered a similar bereavement and could totally relate to Tony. I thought Ricky Gervais was brilliant.

However I hated the third series. Tony was nasty and hateful and being bereaved doesn't give you a licence to swear at people and mock them the way he did. The way he treated Emma was awful. Just because you've lost the person you love with all your being it doesn't mean you have to be a c*, to use Tony's favourite word.

I thought he captured all consuming grief in the beginning perfectly but failed to capture how it progresses.

purpleme12 · 27/05/2024 15:33

I really liked the first 2 series. They made me laugh and cry.
I really wasn't bothered about any of this series until it came to the last episode.
Which really made me sad 😓
