Is anyone watching? No one I know in real life watches so I have no one to talk about it with- I'm on the current series on TLC when Kody is going all crazy paranoid about Covid

I know the wives aren't supposed to interfere in the relationship each one has with Kody, but I think it's shameful that meri has been left completely isolated during covid and none of the other wives felt strongly enough for her that they fought for her inclusion in their own lives. They don't even phone her regularly. Inclusion and feeling part of a big family is supposed to be a benefit of this lifestyle.
Meri was left out when jenelles's daughter was giving birth too - everyone gathered at the house and no one thought to phone her.
Maybe she's difficult or maybe she's become the family scapegoat, idk, but I definitely think Kody has a responsibility towards her and he just ignores her.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 15/01/2022 16:36

I used to watch it and saw up to the series where Meri was catfished and she bought a BnB (am I remembering that right?)
She seemed very set on separating from the group so I’m surprised to hear it’s Christine that’s making the break.
I’ve just restarted watching it at series nine and they’re moving to Arizona.
I can’t believe how doe-eyed Meri is over Kody!
WTF happened?

Spudina · 15/01/2022 16:50

I find Robin’s “anxious face” and tears more annoying with each episode. Get a grip woman. Jody is a manipulative, controlling wanker. But I still love it.

baggies · 15/01/2022 16:57

@Iamdobby63 wow ! I didn't know that about Robin's son. I thought it was random that they decided to live there.
No wonder there's antagonism with Robin and the rest of the kids.
Kody is really showing his true colours now. Janelle and Christine naturally are choosing their kids over him and he's jealous.
I did think they would create cul-de-sac housing like Vegas but that doesn't appear to be happening. Does anyone else think how bleak the landscape is of their land.

crochetmonkey74 · 15/01/2022 17:32

Robyn saying she wanted meri to visit but had to wait months for the meeting to tell the other wives was so annoying to me. Meri was alone, but it is like Robyn is so desperate to be the good wife and do everything perfect for Kody it was so annoying and sad for Meri.

Tilly4321 · 15/01/2022 17:37

I think the wives will all be fine in the end, whatever happens, as they’ve all shown themselves to be strong, capable women when they need to be. Kody, however, is going to fall apart if the whole family collapses (which it looks as if it will), because being “head” of a large family was his raison d’etre for many years. And he won’t settle to a mundane, suburban existence with Robyn - he loves the drama and excitement - hence loading up vans and leaving their homes in the middle of the night.

Discwriter · 15/01/2022 17:52

So glad I found this thread! I'm up to date with latest series and just find Robyn very manipulative. She'll say something and then say but it's not her place to say for instance. I can just imagine Kody and her talking non-stop about how frustrating it is the other wives don't want to follow their rules. It would drive me nuts. I agree with the Christine wanting the community they had in Utah, I can imagine for a family like that they need the reassurance and accountability from other plural families. I'm thinking Meri is trolling Kody, she says very different - and more sensible - things in her interviews than when she is with him

Total car crash TV. Im going through a hard time at the moment so this is my escapism. In my head I think of it as Kody, Robin and his 3 ex wives. He is awful - I dont think this will end well.....

Exactly how I view them too!

Not only was Janelle married to Meri's brother, her mum is married to Kody's dad. GrinShockGrin

Oh yeah!!! I forgot that. They all went to help paint the house when the kids were smaller didnt they? I think Kody's dad is also a polygamist

Pearlpink · 15/01/2022 21:19

Janelles mum passed away last year. It's strange how close everyone's relationships are/is!

WakeUpLockie · 15/01/2022 21:22

I don’t understand the divorce thing - eg Janelle being divorced from Meri’s bro, Robyn is divorced too… yet they believe that once you’re married you’re stuck with your spouse forever for the heavenly kingdom or whatever they call it, and that’s why Meri won’t divorce Kody. So are Janelle and Robyn going to be with their first husbands or Kody? Makes no sense! I feel like Christine doesn’t believe the whole shebang anymore so hopefully she’s not worried about being stuck with Kody for eternity.

SavoyCabbage · 15/01/2022 21:53

I suppose Meri wants to be with Kody for all eternity.

I remember reading about the warren jeffs (I think) cult years ago and he was just able to say to any of his followers that god had told him that they should or shouldn't be married to someone. So you could be married to someone for years and he could just pop round and tell you that god had told him that you had to marry Bob instead. And that was that.

It's called behind sealed I think. You are sealed to one man but the seal can be dissolved and then you can be sealed to someone else.

Limer · 16/01/2022 07:45

I thought Kody and Meri deliberately divorced, in order that Kody could legally marry Robyn and adopt her 3 eldest children. Janelle and Christine never had legal marriages, only religious ones.

Plural marriage is a totally nonsensical idea though, if some men have multiple wives, there will be loads of men with no wife. Warren Jeffs (imprisoned vile child abuser and cult leader) took this to extremes, he and his fellow cult elders had hundreds of wives each, marrying some of the poor girls as young as age 12. He banished hundreds of young men from his cult, literally told them they were no longer welcome and their families were instructed to cut all ties.

crochetmonkey74 · 16/01/2022 08:28

Yeah it's a strange concept and the occasional time the opposite has been mentioned (plural husbands) the whole family act disgusted like that is the most heinous thing to say

Brill, glad I saw this thread, I've been watching since it started years ago.

It's been fascinating to be honest, to watch how they've all changed so much over the years, and I mean the wives not Kody, he's losing his grip on them now and I'd presume it's because all the kids are growing up apart from the two he has with Robyn.

I watch it on TLC so didn't know Christine had left him, good for her, he totally lost interest in her when she started peri menopause, he couldn't understand it at all, he was horrible to her.

Meri did divorce him, I thought she was mad because she was the only legal wife but she wanted to do it for Robyn and her older children, her eldest has autism and Kody has always been way more understanding with him which baffles me because it's obvious to me that Truly is also on the spectrum, anyone remember the one where she was terrified of learning to ride her bike, he barely acknowledges her issues and I think Christine has always known that and has no support from him, or indeed when Ysabel needed her surgery he left them to it.

Oh I could go on and on about them all, Meri still loves him and wants him back, she said in the latest episode I watched "send him back to me ladies" she'll never leave him I don't think, also her relationship with her daughter is terrible, she was a nasty cow to Meri when the catfish thing happened.

Thanks for the thread crochet monkey

I've no one to talk to about it either ☺️

Tilly4321 · 17/01/2022 07:16

I think Kody has 17 children altogether? Mad! He can’t possibly be parenting them properly. I feel torn re Meri - she has been / is treated badly - but I find her rather stupid and very whiney. Christine seems to be getting her act together and interacting with Mykelti etc. Good for her, though I hope none of them gets Covid.

YellowDots · 17/01/2022 08:37

@Ellenanora7 the TLC is bang up to date in that it's the same as people in the US are watching it's just that it was actually filmed a year ago so we know about Christine because she and Kody announced it.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 17/01/2022 08:47

I’m skipping ahead and I’m watching the new series on YouTube.

Kody is such a pig. He just gets worse and worse.

OOh I didn't know you could do this!

What is the YouTube channel called?

I'm surprised they hardly ever mention god, and we don't see them going to church or anything. Is the multiple wives something to do with Old Testament characters having them?

I wonder if Christine & Kody splitting up will mean there's a vacancy for a new wife? Kody's certainly said that he's not sure whether he's finished having children. And he seems to love being the Disney dad.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 17/01/2022 11:22

@crochetmonkey74
I just searched for this series. I think they get pulled down as fast as they get put up though

This is also the only trash/reality TV show that I watch, and I've followed it from the beginning. Delighted to see this thread!
