Has Jamie Dornan as a man who finds himself in Australia with amnesia trying to piece together who is trying to kill him. Has been likened to the film Memento with Guy Pearce. Looks promising.

They threw everything at it in the final episode. Too much.

Thymeout · 30/01/2022 23:20

Anyone who was intrigued by the quirkiness should watch Fargo (the film) and Wild at Heart.
Many references to both - most obviously the cash buried by the highway - but nowhere near in the same league. More an insult to compare them than un homage.

Justkeeppedaling · 30/01/2022 23:35

So was the overdose successful? Or did she get to him in time?

LadyEloise1 · 31/01/2022 00:08

We will never know @Justkeeppedaling Sad

Justkeeppedaling · 31/01/2022 00:13

I know, and that really annoys me. What's the point in writing a story if you aren't going to write an ending?

DH says it's so you can make your own mind up, but I don't want to do that. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS! Angry

LavenderAskew · 31/01/2022 00:15

Who cares, I'm just glad Helen finished with her rubbish fiance.

(OK, I think it was, but he died knowing he had a true friend.)

Thebodyshopolive · 31/01/2022 09:45

I think he died too but was content. He couldn't live with himself knowing what he'd done

Agree @Justkeeppedaling

I like to know what happens

Not us make our own mind up

So will there be a s2

Justkeeppedaling · 31/01/2022 17:11

I wanted him and Helen to make a go of it.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 31/01/2022 18:52

i was cringing about the fact that Helen fell in love with him

WobblyLondoner · 31/01/2022 22:45

Hated the ending. They threw everything into it and it just felt too much. But delighted it ended well for Helen.

DockOTheBay · 31/01/2022 22:52

Was not keen on episode 5. I would have preferred the flashbacks to be peppered throughout, like he remembers bits and pieces and then near the end they all start making sense. Rather than no idea and then all the exposition at once.

Surprised that anyone would suggest a second season. The story is over. I don't get this obsession with a second season of something- just enjoy it for what it is.

Thatgingergirl · 01/02/2022 07:08

Can someone please tell me what emoji Helen sent to Elliot? I couldn't see it very well. Ta.

LavenderAskew · 01/02/2022 07:10

A taco 🌮.

Least I think so!!

LavenderAskew · 01/02/2022 07:15

Oh didn't really mean to post at that point.

I say I at least I think so, because a taco emoji has another meaning but I wasn't sure if it was in reference to their time in the restaurant.

Also it didn't look like the taco emoji on my phone it was more like a fajita or burrito

Thatgingergirl · 01/02/2022 07:25

Thanks LavenderAskew - I thought it must be something that was an "in joke" between them. At least it made him smile before whatever happened, happened!

Bearsbearsbears40 · 01/02/2022 07:31

It was a burrito, a reference to the restaurant evening.

LiterallyKnowsBest · 01/02/2022 07:59

I’d imagine there is room for another series - if this one proves popular.

Let’s assume he doesn’t die - and once again wakes up in hospital with Helen coming to visit him.

The whole evil drugs master thing needs unpacking.

Helen has to evolve as her own person. Possibly with her ex in uncomprehending pursuit. Probably with some other, thinner woman claiming possession of Eliot.

They’ve already set a precedent for bonkers storylines so could toss anything into the mix - dinosaurs, spaceships, a whole series set in the 19th century …

Hmm

Would be a shame not to continue making use of the landscape …

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/02/2022 08:19

It was a burrito. When she made him play the word association game she said 'Happy' and he said 'Burrito'. (If it wasn't happy, it was a similarly positive word.) So if he did die (and I think he did) Helen ensured he died happy. Sad

I don't think there was ever a cat in hell's chance that Helen and Elliott could have made a go of things. She was infatuated with him (and most of the women on this thread know why Blush) and struggling with not feeling about Ethan as she felt she ought to. She was grateful to Ethan for looking after her (in his own smothering fashion) at a very dark time in her life but it was taking her a long time to see that she couldn't live with his controlling, undermining, nagging ways. Getting away from him was her happy ending.

I must say I enjoyed this. It was far from perfect, but Jamie Dornan was good, and I really liked the Helen character.

@pendeen123

I am a massive JD fan and I was really looking forward to it...but actually I found it dull and lacking authenticity and barely credible- the amnesia plot is such a lazy trope....plus there are two golden rules in film and TV and this broke one of them, namely the romantic female lead can never be overweight, don't bother posting I know there maybe a few exceptions but they are incredibly rare..zzzzz
I was delighted they broke this 'rule'. What an insult to half the human race that we're not worthy to take on a leading role unless we conform to the rigid and unrealistic standards of the world of slebs and fashionistas. Nobody holds men to the same standards. Older men carry on acting and getting off with gorgeous young women long after they're entitled to their bus pass.
BoreOfWhabylon · 01/02/2022 11:06

@pendeen123
What is the second golden Rule?

gungemonster · 04/02/2022 00:16

Watched the who,e thing and I'm none the fucking wiser!
