I loved a kids' series in 1984 called The Box of Delights. I remember it being a magical Christmassy adventure. I got the DVD and tried to watch it at the weekend. Considering it was aimed at kids, it was unintelligible and unwatchable.

I also felt the same about The Goodies. Laughed myself silly at them when I was a kid. Watched a rare repeat and didn't laugh once - utter, utter rubbish.

What are yours?

@the80sweregreat

Chips! Awful programme!!
As in the California Highway Patrol? What was so awful about it? Surely it was just a nonsense police procedural featuring long sequences of cops on motorbikes on the highway?
PieMistee · 15/12/2021 23:08

Titanic was shite at the time!
I agree with Friends aged very badly, so much casual sexism and homophobia.

thenewduchessoflapland · 15/12/2021 23:09

Jim will fix it..........

WasgijGods · 15/12/2021 23:11

Austin Powers

My god it is awful

SonicStars · 15/12/2021 23:13

Boy meets world. Put it on for the kids to see what mum used to enjoy and man it was bad.

But they seem to love it.

Mrsfrumble · 15/12/2021 23:15

DH showed The Storyteller to the DCs recently and scared the absolute shite out of the youngest. I had to go to the loo with her for ages because she was so scared of the “half man” she wouldn’t go alone.

I have a feeling I wouldn’t love ER quite as much as I used to if I revisited it.

MorrisZapp · 15/12/2021 23:16

Minder. Used to be an edgy treat when I was a lass. Liked it even better when they replaced Terry the burst sofa with a hot young geezer.

The guy isn't hot after all, Terry was frankly disturbing and it all looks so shabby and sordid.

'her indoors' was best off avoiding the whole bloody lot of them.

OccultGnuAsWell · 15/12/2021 23:20

On the "write the theme tune, sing the theme tune" topic I don't think the Sweeney has aged well.

Even as a mid teen in the 70's I recognised the sexism of the main characters. Still bloody loved it though.

And love Gene Hunt as well.

RubertRoo · 15/12/2021 23:20

Skins!
At the time I was about the same age as the cast so loved it and thought it was so cool. Tried to rewatch it recently and now see it in a whole new light! Couldn't watch further than episode 2

butteredbarmbrack · 15/12/2021 23:26

I watched an episode of Dempsey and Makepeace with DDs a few months back. Not sure we made it to the end. Used to love it when I was a teen but oh dear....

Eastenders

HaaaaaveyoumetTed · 15/12/2021 23:42

Through the dragons eye. Tried to rewatch as an adult. really bad idea!

I still think Buffy as a show holds up. I'm sad about JW but I still love it.

Kerning · 15/12/2021 23:44

Triangle. Thought Kate O'Mara was the bees knees.

SylviasMotherSaid · 15/12/2021 23:45

Dawson’s Creek they are all so whiny and use way too many words . I used to adore it as a teen but tried to watch it last winter and couldn’t stand it . The OC didn’t age well either .

Bunnyfuller · 15/12/2021 23:47

Greys Anatomy. Still watch it but the plots and acting are dire, I just sit cringing. DH seems fond of cheese and has no judgement on acting.

PermanentTemporary · 15/12/2021 23:49

Seinfeld. There's a whole thread about it, and I thought they must be wrong, settled down with glass of wine to enjoy it, man. It's about as cutting edge as Everyone Loves Raymond.

Zilla1 · 15/12/2021 23:55

The Professionals.

Zilla1 · 15/12/2021 23:56

Though the song writing and musicianship in many of the theme tunes from the era stand up better than the programmes.

Hairyfriend · 15/12/2021 23:58

A film in the mid 80's about a baby dinosaur called 'Baby- Secret of the lost legend'. At the time, the animatronics seemed magical. As an adult, they are jerky and dreadful!

New kids on the Block. Loved them in the early 90's but can't stand any of their songs now.

KimDeals · 16/12/2021 00:02

SATC! I just hate them all now when I watch it

Chachasha · 16/12/2021 00:09

The box of delights flat out terrified me - a ghost in a turban?? I do remember the opening being far better than the rest of it.

AcrossthePond55 · 16/12/2021 00:20

Yup.

Tried to watch a couple of the episodes and just wanted to keep saying "Oh shut up and grow up!!!".

Not something... someone. My ex I was with for over 5 years until jan I truly thought he was my 'soulmate' excuse the cringe. Now looking back I don't know how I put up with everything for so long, he was abusive and essentially acted like a needy manchild.
