Just finished episode one and need to talk about it!!!

Didn't like much of the episode to be honest. But the ending! I'm floored! Was not expecting that.

I loved them having Anthony with them for brunch. He has a lovely blend of snark and sincerity.

Wanderingowl · 30/12/2021 23:34

Though Che is obviously an awful first crush. Sara Ramirez is physically quite attractive yes, but Che has a horrendous personality. I also noticed that just as Miranda got the delivery notification that alerted her to her alcoholism, Che said she is poly and Miranda didn't register it. So I imagine Miranda will have drama when she realises that her girlfriend/enbyfriend has numerous boy/girl/enbyfriends.

hopeishere · 30/12/2021 23:35

There are good moments in it but Miranda is woeful. Was she always such a crap actress?

I thought the bit with the school was fine and like how many parents would react.

Toilet humour is very low though.

hopeishere · 30/12/2021 23:35

Was the bit at the end with the Amazon review meant to indicate she had bought the book?

Pl242 · 30/12/2021 23:57

Yes. I think so @hopeishere

mrdarcyfan · 31/12/2021 00:00

Is this meant to be funny?I don't think I can watch anymore. It's as though the writers are trying to include as many issues as they can to bring it up to date. The characters have had twenty years to gradually assimilate society's changes. They are acting as if they've been on the moon. It's just so forced and unfunny.

KillingMeDeftly · 31/12/2021 00:01

Absolutely not, Cynthia Nixon was great in the original series and won an Emmy for it.

DartmoorChef · 31/12/2021 00:12

I was a bit Hmm with the first episode but I'm really enjoying it now.

And I remember after SATC ended, Nixon did an episode of ER where she was genuinely excellent. The problem here is that she is being allowed to wedge her political agendas into the show at the expense of storytelling.

I’m positive I read that Miranda becoming a lesbian was going to be either a plot in the second or third movie, but was either changed or (in the case of a third movie) never happened. I think it’s a great storyline, as some people do identify as lesbian later in life, but why does it have to be with rude boring unfunny Che

EachandEveryone · 31/12/2021 00:32

The acting isnt great is it? SJP surely plays herself?

Andylion · 31/12/2021 02:18

Regarding the timeline, in episode 5, (this week’s episode), Carrie said something about two months. I can’t recall the context but I took it to mean two months since Big had died. At the end of the episode she says it’s been three months since her surgery, so we are now five months in.

I wonder when she will start to date?

user1481840227 · 31/12/2021 02:39

If Carrie had woken up a bit later on she would have thought that Che was murdering Miranda!

user1481840227 · 31/12/2021 02:53

@Wanderingowl

Not to be "that poster" but Miranda being attracted to Che doesn't make her gay. It makes her bisexual. She may not be happy with Steve anymore but she was attracted to him once. And sexy Robert. And the guy she let think she was an air steward. And many other men in the past.

It's relatively normal for a woman her age to suddenly realise they are attracted to women too. There are plenty of threads in the relationships board by women who have developed an attraction to a female friend/colleague. Obviously it's not what the majority of women experience but it's not super unusual either. It's not closeted women coming to terms with their homosexuality, just women realising they have a broader selection of 'types' than they previously acknowledged.

I've seen loads of those threads on the relationship forum and the women nearly always say that they're now gay, not bisexual as despite their past preferences and experiences they are now exclusively attracted to women!
RiverSkater · 31/12/2021 03:08

@TomAllenWife I noticed Miranda's weird walk too. I think it was being forceful to wear heels in the show when she's probably been in flats ever since!

greatape · 31/12/2021 08:27

I laughed when Charlotte said she read the Daily Mail.

I quite liked this one actually. Am loving Antony, probably my fave atm. I also like Seema who reminds me of someone I work with and LTW. Harry also and he and Charlotte remain very cute together.

I found the kitchen/sex scene but utterly cringe and really really felt for Carrie. I quite liked the pee stuff (that sounds odd....) because it was so unglamorous.

Miranda is so rude to Bradys girlfriend though. She seems to really dislike her, Brady and Steve just for being themselves. She should just leave them. And not get involved with Che who is friggin dreadful in every way. That bit when she was having hysterics to the podcast whilst making a drink - god it was dire

TomAllenWife · 31/12/2021 08:41

Can anyone tell me what Carrie was texting at the end?
I was in bed with no glasses on so couldn't see

🙄 Yes, thank you captain obvious. We're getting lectured enough in the show, don't need you too.

Seema is utterly fabulous, more of her.

Samantha.

She gave her the heads up about mentioning the diaphragm story and told her she missed her. Samantha didn't reply.

I’m watching out of some sort of loyalty to SATC, which I watched religiously and loved. Just not getting AJLT at all. It seriously lacks the wit and humour of SATC - which effectively makes it a rather lame show about the lives of three wealthy and whiny women who happen to live in NYC. Where’s the fun in that? Laughs are seriously lacking in AJLT - not sure I’ll bother watching further.

AsYouWishButtercup · 31/12/2021 09:41

Miranda is so rude to Bradys girlfriend though

Blimey, I don’t think Miranda is rude enoigh to her! She wanders round Miranda’s home in her underwear after having loud sex, orders lube to her house, makes snarky comments about Miranda’s age and is generally rude and disrespectful. I’m amazed Miranda is allowing it all

AsYouWishButtercup · 31/12/2021 09:43

I agree with this, and fawning over Che saying “are you always this funny” (when she a remarkably normal comment) is pathetic. STAC Miranda would have thought Che was an obnoxious arsehole. It’s t this Nixon playing herself

TomAllenWife · 31/12/2021 09:44

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor thank you

I don't know why I'm watching either. It's so dull, Anthony is the best part

Yes why aren’t they living the glamorous lives they once did?! Remember Carrie’s editor Edith from Vogue who was mid-50’s and whilst she struggled to find a decent man she was glamorous, successful, no back problems and her ANCIENT AGE OF OVER 50 didn’t debilitate been in any way. Why aren’t they like that?!
AsYouWishButtercup · 31/12/2021 09:47

I do however like the accurate depiction of teens in the show. I hate movies and shows where the teens are precocious little sods doling out pearls of wisdoms to people twice their age. The AJLT teens are selfish and a bit dim, as a lot of teens are, and I like it shows how difficult parenting them is.
