Just finished episode one and need to talk about it!!!

Didn't like much of the episode to be honest. But the ending! I'm floored! Was not expecting that.

@Wanderingowl a bisexual non-binary version of The Fonz hits the nail on the head!

JacquelineCarlyle · 19/12/2021 10:15

@Wanderingowl

Even on reddit, which is practically curated to be 'woke' on all the main subs, a thread of Che hate is getting the most upvotes. I have to admit, I'm not a fan of Sara Ramirez to begin with but everything I dislike about her is dialled up to 11 on this show. I just find her whole 'cool swagger' thing really affected and inauthentic. She's like someone who is very badly playing a part in a bid to not be seen as the middle-aged woman that she is. It's just sad. There is absolutely nothing wrong with not fitting into society's mold of 'middle-aged woman' but with Ramirez, I feel more like I'm looking at her mid-life crisis. It's like coming out as a bisexual-non-binary, with The Fonz as your style icon is the modern version of buying a porsche and having an affair with your secretary.
Totally agree!
Pemba · 19/12/2021 12:26

I don't know who Sara Ramirez is, is she a comedian? If so, she's not funny, well 'Che's' routine as written was incredibly unfunny. And the character is annoying.

A bit worried about the road they appear to be going down with young Rose.

None of the characters appear to have changed or matured over the years. In fact both Charlotte and Miranda seem to become more immature. Sadly, maybe that's quite true to life though.

And now all these revelations about Chris Noth, urgh! What is up with so many men?

The whole thing is becoming depressing. What a shame.

BitcherOfBlakiven · 19/12/2021 12:59

SR was in Greys Anatomy and played an incredible character. Left a few years ago.

This is just her playing her, though.

DottyHarmer · 19/12/2021 14:19

Agree with much of this.

Miranda would be gender critical. This is supposed to be Miranda Hobbs, not Cynthia Nixon.

Why was the Che stand up so darned long? Also their point about not sticking to a “box” was completed defeated by the fact that they are completely stuck in this one-note Non Binary Box where they can’t seem to talk about anything else.

Agree that the podcast, rather than breaking boundaries, is just sicko shock.

And Charlotte’s dd also being used to promote an agenda - why why why?

Incidentally I thought Trey was hard done by. He was a bit of a weirdo who was railroaded into marriage by Charlotte. I bet today he’s living happily with 100-year-old Bunny. If the show is now so achingly woke then surely his and Bunny’s relationship should be a Big Fat Finger Click?!

VodselForDinner · 19/12/2021 15:26

Saw this on Instagram. Made me laugh.

I like SR's character in Greys, Callie & Arizona were a great storyline.

I fine Che quite intimidating. Especially her confrontation with Miranda & Brady at the wake. And during the podcast talking about sex with underage girls - I found that very disturbing and inappropriate. Why would it be ok for anyone to admit that without repercussions? (It was the man admitting it)

I love the the PP's analogy of Che as the new Fonz

daisiesonmydress · 19/12/2021 16:38

It's so so disappointing.

Miranda has been thrown away

Newgirls · 19/12/2021 20:58

I think it’s just the right amount of funny considering big just died. Miranda seems pretty believable to me - her life is at a massive crossroads - marriage ending, kid grown up, self medicating etc and I know women who lose a bit of themselves at meno and then shift completely into a new way of life/relationship so that all rang true to me!

JacquelineCarlyle · 19/12/2021 21:26

Me too @Newgirls

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor

Snapping is the new non triggering clapping. Apparently.
"Finger snaps for David!" (Schitt's Creek)

@JackieWeaversZoomAc

Gosh they are all so awful. I'm persevering but finding the whole thing cringe cringe!!!!
Same.

The stand up was neither funny nor inspiring. Was such a stretch to think that Cynical Miranda was so blown away by it.

HaroldMeeker · 20/12/2021 18:46

AJLT is excruciatingly, achingly, painfully woke. It's bloody awful. Where's the humour, the sarcasm, the kindness? I guess Samantha took it all with her. Correction, Anthony managed to provide a little light relief, but otherwise...sheesh..

EachandEveryone · 20/12/2021 23:16

I wonder what the cast/producers are thinking right now?

Cheesymonster · 21/12/2021 07:46

The characters are so unlikeable in this version. I used to only hate Carrie Grin

NutellaEllaElla · 21/12/2021 07:52

They've GOT to be seeing the feedback, it's unmissable.
Blueuggboots · 21/12/2021 08:08

I watched the first 10 minutes and turned it off.

I loved (and I mean LOVED) SATC but this new woke shit? Nope.

DottyHarmer · 21/12/2021 09:41

I know it was in the DM, but the costume person was saying that Cynthia Nixon is running the show and did not sound particularly impressed.

It’s a shame that through Miranda, CN is representing a “Karen” (who will of course have an epiphany).

It does appear that CN is making her stamp all over the show, the wokeness, non-binary etc etc. But none of it is Miranda as we've known her.

HaroldMeeker · 21/12/2021 10:19

Miranda is unrecognisable, you're right. Where did the sarcastic wit go? I refuse to believe that she'd become this bumbling, foot-in-mouth frightened to offend person. This is the woman who silenced a group of builders when they cat-called her. Iirc, didn't she shout back that yes, she DID fancy a fuck?

Wanderingowl · 21/12/2021 10:41

Has anyone watched Harlem on Prime? I've read a couple of posts on another forum saying it's quite good and tackles some of these issues better. With the "Carrie" of the the group, Camille, being a college anthropology professor who gets cancelled due to virtue signalling. I haven't seen it though and an nervous about starting it in case it turns out that the main character needs to be reeducated in the same way I fear Anthony on AJLT will be.
