If Carrie is no longer with Big, I don’t think I want to watch the new SATC

I don’t know for sure, but I’ve heard rumours that Carrie has a new boyfriend in the new series And Just Like That. Not sure when it’s out. I know Big vs Aidan was a contentious issue, but I was always team Big, love him.

@YouGotThisKeepGoing

Someone on Reddit posted about how realistic they found Miranda to be.

The person posting was a black woman, a lawyer in her 30s who wears braids.

She said it was absolutely spot in about how certain kind of white person has been behaving recently.

Basically people she has often known for a while, who she would never have taken for a racist and who she has never got a bad vibe from, are now all tongue tied and over thinking how not to inadvertently appear racist.

I'm glad I came back and found this comment. I'm sick to the back of my teeth of the pages of comments going on about this show being too "woke"....

I'm a black woman and my experience of women like Miranda, was in my opinion very accurately depicted. Yes, Miranda is educated, articulate & confident but she is also a functioning alcoholic, possibly going through early stages of menopause (?!) and lives in a very very white world.

Black people have been talking about the unconscious biases that present as micro-aggressions for months, and voila here it is in your face a la Miranda. The scenes were purposely acted to be uncomfortable & awkward. Cynthia Nixon was on The View and was very articulate in explaining why they did this.

I've just watched a trailer for what's coming for the rest of the series, it definitely looks good & addresses topics I discuss and experience with my friends. Roll on Thursday

Cynthia Nixon interview for those interested

workshy44 · 14/12/2021 19:56

For me the "woke" stuff was all to do with the "cis women" nonsense non binary stuff.
The scenes with Miranda were just absolutely cringe as were the masturbation scenes, I had to fast forward those

ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff · 14/12/2021 20:08

@NurseButtercup

Whilst I don't doubt at all you come across people like Miranda - as in the character in the first two episodes of the reboot - I think people are pissed off as it's not the Miranda we've always known. They've completely changed her. She wasn't like that in the series. That's what the problem is.

IDontThinkSoNo · 14/12/2021 20:53

Agree with the last 2 posts about cis stuff and Miranda being different to how she used to be. For me it would have felt more real if it was Charlotte who was getting tongue tied and saying the wrong thing around someone black

Agreed. Sick of white people using 'woke' as an insult Usually 'feminists'.

GreenLunchBox · 14/12/2021 22:40

I found the Miranda scenes authentic as a black woman but apparently white women know better

GreenLunchBox · 14/12/2021 22:48

'woke' means alert to social injustice, especially racism, but apparently that's a bad thing and they don't want to hear it. So they're happy to ridicule our experiences. Just don't watch the show then if it's too woke for you

You’re right. The more I think about it, the more I realise that seeing Miranda make so many mistakes, feels uncomfortable because she is a “sensible educated” woman so it threatens us to think that it’s not just “daft uneducated” people who make those mistakes. And therefore do we make those same mistakes? And that’s very uncomfortable. I didn’t expect to be challenged on a program which I’ve generally considered to be fairly badly written (although maybe I’m basing that on the films) so it was surprising.
TableLampy · 15/12/2021 10:47

I’m glad that Carrie isn’t going to be with big through the series - obvs not glad that he’s dead, but the whole of satc that we knew and loved, was her pursuit of love. Once she got it, the writers clearly didn’t know how to leave them happy and together, hence the awful plot lines in the films. So far better that he’s gone, than churning out more on/off storylines again. Bringing back Aiden for the last film was so desperate I’m glad that we don’t have to go through that again

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/12/2021 14:40

I hope Carrie finds someone else

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/12/2021 11:19

Anyone watch this am ?

iloveayankeecandle · 16/12/2021 12:57

Yes I watched!! I'm really loving it. Something new, but familiar on the tele.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/12/2021 13:24

Agree each episode is getting better

A million eh

Wonder who much he left Carrie

We know John was very rich

WildFlowerBees · 16/12/2021 14:00

It's woke bingo, I hope the writers take onboard all the criticism they've had thus far.

JanisMoplin · 16/12/2021 16:42

I did. It got a little better, but Miranda is still a blithering idiot in every possible situation. Still predict Carrie will have an affair with her hot podcast producer. Che gets on my last nerve and her stand up comedy was cringey.

Robin233 · 16/12/2021 19:19

Just watched episode 3 and loved it.
It seems to have hit its stride.
It was funny with quite a few thought provoking moments.
I liked the resolution between Carrie and Natasha. It worked well.

iloveayankeecandle · 16/12/2021 19:38

Totally agree , che is not a good character!!

CoolShoeshine · 16/12/2021 19:50

Che’s ok, she fills that larger than life, out there gap left by Samantha. I guess they were tough shoes to fill and the makers didn’t want to invite comparisons.

JanisMoplin · 16/12/2021 19:59

I liked Carrie taking to walking. I think I like sad Carrie. She is a lot less annoying.

purpledagger · 16/12/2021 21:03

Why did they turn Charlotte into such a cow?
She seems to have it in for Standford at the moment. I also really disliked when she downplayed Carrie and Big's affair. If I remember correctly, Charlotte was really upset in the original series when she found out about the affair.

GreenLunchBox · 16/12/2021 22:00

Miranda being 'shotgunned' was the funniest thing I've seen 🤣

That's just what friends do to make us feel better when we're upset
EachandEveryone · 16/12/2021 22:31

Yes I preferred this episode. And I never used to like Anthony but Im loving him now and the way he spoke to Charlotte about Rose. Im living the outfits and seeing New York again. Carrie must be minted now🙂

Fadingout · 17/12/2021 09:00

Still watching, still not a fan. Seems very heavy but on the non binary stuff. I’d have liked to have seen them remain as strong women. Miranda it seems has been reduced to an idiot.
