If Carrie is no longer with Big, I don’t think I want to watch the new SATC

I don’t know for sure, but I’ve heard rumours that Carrie has a new boyfriend in the new series And Just Like That. Not sure when it’s out. I know Big vs Aidan was a contentious issue, but I was always team Big, love him.

@SweeneyToddler

Actually poor old Trey. He was a disaster, but Charlotte made no attempt to find out anything about him before getting married - she just steamrollered him because he was rich and suitable.

Exactly! She was very manipulative in how she got him to propose. He seemed happy to stay dating and have a sexual relationship- would have made much more sense to do that.

Wasn't this the reason why he had his impotency problems though? I'm sure he tells her it was all too fast for him.

Irrelevant but I love that scene where Aidan turns around to face Carrie and he's wearing a baby carrier (with baby included Grin). It was such a heartbreaking moment. And that's SJP's actual son, James Wilkie, in the carrier (who is now the same age as my own DS!).

When is this starting

workshy44 · 01/12/2021 15:26

Carrie was very funny and different, she was unlike the others in many ways. Curly hair, a writer which is interesting.
I get it that the young guys lining up for her wasn't realistic but certainly Big and the Russian
The one who wrote it did say that Charlotte was the only one in real life that would have got that many dates

EachandEveryone · 01/12/2021 17:11

I can’t wait for it now. There’s a lot more publicity for it compared to the films.

FurrFeather · 02/12/2021 22:56

Like many of these series, they were of their time.

Seeing a woman in her 30s dancing and hopping round New York, obsessed with designer shoes and relashionships is so ... so ... 2000!

It looks a bit self-indulgent now. Do people have that kind of expendable income now? But in some ways it was a more innocent time. Are we all a bit more jaded now. Or is it just me?

Also some of the sex stuff that poor Samantha actress was made to do and say pretty ick). Carrie had some kind of cheap housing in NY - I bet less easy to find now, just like London, etc.

Mr Big was literally GORGEOUS to my mind. Completely unattainable type of man!

And though I liked all the female characters, sometimes Carrie annoyed me - she was SO obsessed with her relationships, and was always on the edge of her seat with stratospheric girlish excitement and smiles whenever she was around one! When she got back to her 'cheap' studio the serious face and the fags came out lol!

I enjoyed it at the time mostly, some of it was genuine fun, about friendships and general life. Samantha getting cancer and coping with that with her maneater quest and also when she sort of 'fell in love' was good too, and well acted. And its a shame she won't be returning.

Finally, (with the exception of Miranda perhaps), weren't they all really OBSESSED WITH MEN THO' ? Was I? probably Shock.

FurrFeather · 02/12/2021 23:04

p.s. Mr Big was the Unicorn, the SoulMate, in a way the Unattainable. Its interesting in a way: everything in the series hung around that will-they, won't-they relationship, the central dream of love. (but I must say apart for a brief period when Aiden entered the picture, she was the one on the backfoot, the one who loved more. So there was a pathos running through it too.

@VaguelyInteresting

I measure my personal growth by how much I rated my favourite SATC boyfriends / husbands :

16- Berger “oh he’s so intense and brooding and hot. And a WRITER. I would like a bite of that Berger.”

22- “Aiden. Aiden is definitely the best one. And he’s an accidental hipster and as I now live in London, this is good. Yes. He’s the one.”

27- “I am now dating older men and drinking red wine so am very sophisticated. I would marry Big. Carrie should marry Big. We should all aspire to rich, suave, Big Boyfriends, and wear cocktail dresses all the time”.

33- “I am now a single mother of a 5 year old and I am on the lookout for a Harry. Harry and his hairy back. What a good man. A solid man. Devoted to his wife. A man you can have food poisoning with and still laugh. How did I not see before that Harry is the best one?.”

I will never pick Kind But Whingy Steve. Sorry Steve fans.

All of this 😂
FurrFeather · 03/12/2021 17:33

I know I’m overthinking this now - but I guess Carrie being a Fizzy excitable Romantic was also sweet in a way. Charlotte also the Romantic. Miranda and Samantha represent a different attitude. If they come back I think it will be hard to capture the same Romantic vibe in their 50s without it being a bit overwrought?! If there’s too much Wokey stuff, and I expect there will be, that will be another thumbs down. Still, there’s always the lovely and fascinating clothes and style Smile

EachandEveryone · 05/12/2021 22:36

Mines overtime but I can’t really cancel for a tv show😃

paranoidnamechanger · 07/12/2021 20:34

It's being broadcast the same day as it is in America, which is really unusual for a new TV show. Looking forward to Thursday.

EachandEveryone · 07/12/2021 21:57

I know it really seems to be a big deal. Heres hoping.

paranoidnamechanger · 09/12/2021 08:44

The first episode has just appeared on Now! Going to work so will watch it later.

Punfreeusername · 09/12/2021 08:53

I thought the point is they were all destined to be unhappy, until they ditched their shallowness and materialism, or something happened that changed their ways, then they would find happiness

Charlotte with Harry, and Miranda with Steve were the examples for that, whilst Carrie continuing to pursue 'Big' showed that bad boys ultimately make you unhappy?

If the new series still has Carrie & Big as a thing, then it may be about her ' journey' to being a better person.

trickytrudy · 09/12/2021 09:38

Just watched first episode. Wasn't expecting that twist. I feel all kerfuffled.
