Anyone watching? I love this series and fancy Perez Grin He seems to have some extra timber on him.. I don’t like him in a suit, much prefer a fishermans knitted jumper on him..

Where were we left when the last series ended? Did he get together with someone? Someone who seemed to have shady motives? I can’t remember!

I didn't realise it was on again and as I'm in Ireland, I don't have access to the previous episodes of this series on iPlayer. (Perez is looking a bit battered, isn't he? But still sexy, when he wears his jumpers and peacoat.)

What happened to the previous Procurator Fiscal -- Rhona?

What does anyone make of the screaming semi-nun in the gilet? Was she boffing Galbraith? And what did Perez say that made her scream once she was alone, after she'd been all mildly flirtatious over a cigarette with him?

I amuse myself thinking 'Who is going to be Perez's (always very temporary) love interest this season?' Screaming nun? Donna Killick's nurse who seems to remember an awful lot about drunk Perez's tastes in film from a long time ago?

Are Duncan and Perez still sharing a house? (There's Duncan/Perez slash, I've discovered...)

That's funny! I've read that it's filmed in various locations, as Lerwick isn't always suitable. It's also noticeable that it seems to have a covering of snow on and off, but I think there were filming delays because of covid.

Above was in response to @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius.
I like your thinking, @Cranncat! I don't know if Jimmy's love interest will be the palliative care nurse (with a long memory) or the smoking semi nun who is yowling for some reason.

God, I wish they would find him a good woman who wasn't involved in the case, I'm tired of watching his heart break. That or let him and Duncan get it on

Jimmy's house is so badly lit, it's entirely possible that they could get it on with each other in a case of mistaken identity.
Put new bulbs in, Jimmy, we cannae see!

Interesting that someone's mentioned Sandy's accent. His is the only authentic Shetland accent on there (and it's gorgeous). Tosh, Duncan and Jimmy are clearly Glaswegian (Tosh had a clear backstory that she's from there. Can't remember what excuse they gave for Jimmy or Duncan) and smaller characters are usually really obviously Glaswegian or from Edinburgh with no explanation why very few have island accents! I love the series but it really annoys me!

I'm procrastinating at my desk and have just read about four or five Duncan/Perez fics, and one where Hathaway from Lewis goes on holiday to Shetland to get over his unrequited love for Lewis, and is picked up by Duncan at an open mic evening at the pub.

This is actually completely true. Grin

Jimmy's supposed to be from Fair Isle, so why he talks like that, who knows. It's a shame Sandy is the only Shetlander, or that the others don't adopt the accent. Tosh is a Glaswegian character, as @Puffalicious says.

Watching it avidly, have always loved it (and Douglas Henshall is always worth a look at).

As an Irish person I just hear a Scottish accent. I can't differentiate Shetland/Glasgow/ Edinburgh etc.
Mind you, most Shetland fans on this thread wouldn't be able to distinguish a Waterford accent from a Kerry accent.
@Cranncat could though, being from Ireland, I'm sure.

@FluffyBooBoo

I'm already confused with the sheer number of characters, mainly because they just chat about them and we don't necessarily see them again.

Not impressed tbh.

I agree completely. I was so excited it was back on, but it's so much more complicated than normal with too many names, some of whom we haven't even seen.

And Sandy, argggh, he always doing things like that!!

You'd differentiate between a Kerry and Waterford accent from outer space, I'd have said. Grin

I can certainly hear the difference between Sandy's accent and the others but am not good on distinguishing regional accents in Scottish people.

Maireas he's supposed to be from Fair Isle?! He's straight out of Hyndland!Grin.

Glad non Scots can hear the difference from Sandy to the others- it's sooooo different and I'm puzzled why some of the others don't adopt it. Very strange.

I could definitely hear the difference between a Cork and a Dublin accent and a Donegal and a Belfast one bit that's about it!

Probably because a) he's the only native Shetland actor and b) it's a fairly dumbed down version of the accent anyway.

Most people would struggle to understand a broad shetland accent.

I think they could have done with a bit of a recap of series 4 events. I watched it but barely remember it now. And yes poor Jimmy is looking a bit weather beaten. He's normally a bit of a crush of mine but just looks exhausted in this.

I thought the nun in habit looked male. I was wondering if that was going to be part of the reason the lawyer was visiting.
I found the family connection in the murders confusing. It was just a load of names that meant nothing

Loving this series but Jimmy is nothing like the character in the book which is a bit disappointing. Jimmy in the book is dark haired and Spanish looking.

I suppose you're right. It's a gorgeous accent right enough, though.

Aha, reading this has reminded me all about Donna Killick! I thought I recognised the actress but it’s all fallen into place as I now remember her from season 4 and how that ended.

Although not keen on Sandy, I do love his accent. Isn't the Shetland accent like that because of the strong Viking influence in the past?

I'm getting flashes of that series 4 storyline coming back to me. And I certainly remember Duncan being 'in the frame' at one point. But much of it still eludes me. Was that the series that had to do with some summer festival taking place (in the past)?
