Anyone watching? I love this series and fancy Perez Grin He seems to have some extra timber on him.. I don’t like him in a suit, much prefer a fishermans knitted jumper on him..

Where were we left when the last series ended? Did he get together with someone? Someone who seemed to have shady motives? I can’t remember!

As an England-dweller I can easily tell the Shetland accent – it's very distinctive –and I used to live in Glasgow, so recognise that too. Others seem to be from Edinburgh or the east coast/central Scotland, but I can't distinguish any better than that.
I think the 'nun' said she's 'lifetime professed' and has taken the vows of poverty and celibacy, but not the 'married to Jesus bit'. I'm not sure if that means she doesn't have to believe and just essentially lives like a non-religious nun Confused and think it means she can and does work in the community.

What happened to the previous Procurator Fiscal -- Rhona? The new one said something about being there 'while she's on leave', I think.

What does anyone make of the screaming semi-nun in the gilet? Was she boffing Galbraith? And what did Perez say that made her scream once she was alone, after she'd been all mildly flirtatious over a cigarette with him? I think she knows more about Galbraith than she's said. Not sure if she was boffing him or knows something related to the crime, or both.

Donna Killick's nurse who seems to remember an awful lot about drunk Perez's tastes in film from a long time ago? I thought that too. VERY good memory Grin

To be fair, I think if you went to the police station in Lerwick (which isn't the door you see in the programme, that's takes you to the court and registry office, but it is just around the corner) I don't think you'd find too many native shetland accents anyway!

Why do I think Rhona is pregnant? Have I imagined that?

I remember (I think?) Rhona being in a relationship with Anna Chancellor/Duckface, who was involved in legal skulduggery to protect her son in a previous season? Did that end when she was implicated?

Ah, you're right, @Cranncat - she was implicated with Duckface.

I too thought the nun who opened the door to Jimmy at the convent/retreat place was a man in disguise.

Wasn't the stand-in Procurator Fiscal in Vigil or something similar very recently?

If the nurse had a crush on Jimmy back in the day, she probably would remember a random fact like that about him!

I thought exactly the same about the extremely male-looking nun who opened the door, and had a moment of wondering first whether this 'community' was some kind of cross-dressing kink space (which, frankly, would have been a change from Shetland being positively stuffed full of murderers), which would explain why Galbraith looked guilty on the phone and his daughter thought he was having an affair -- then afterwards I wondered why they had cast that person as the door-opening nun. Usually they would cast that kind of non-speaking extra to be unremarkable-looking, whereas if we all went 'Is that nun a man?' it was clearly distracting at least some viewers away from the investigation/what Perez was really going to find out.

Was Rhona in the last couple of seasons, though?

I remember Anna Chancellor's character was implicated in covering up her son's rapist past, and I'm assuming Rhona split up with her then, but I think that was back in series 3 (that started with the young guy who disappears on the ferry crossing and took place largely in Glasgow) -- wasn't R still the Fiscal during the Lizzie Kilmuir murder season that took place partly in Norway AND the Zezi/slave trafficking season?

I like Rhona. She did a good silk shirt.

@Cranncat, glad I'm not alone. DD told me off for being 'transphobic! Charming! You can't make any observations these days to the woke young.

I agree. I miss her.

Is the new fiscal the woman from Line of Duty who was in a relationship with Kelly MacDonald's character?

Yes, that's it @IntermittentParps! I knew I recognised her from something recent!

As for the other series on Shetland I don't have normal tv so watch on iPlayer ..
I must be hiding under a rock as I don't know who Ben fogel is lol
Right enough sandy is the only native but I think he is from whalsay the more rural bit people in lerick" as they call it in the show is a softer accent 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Maireas

Jimmy's supposed to be from Fair Isle, so why he talks like that, who knows. It's a shame Sandy is the only Shetlander, or that the others don't adopt the accent. Tosh is a Glaswegian character, as *@Puffalicious* says.

Most of fair isle have a softer accent anyway as they board at the Lerwick school from around 11 also the island is run by the national trust so a lot of incomers and quite multicultural actually (I did watch a documentary years ago about the people who more there) think there is one original family tho 🙂

There's a bit in series 2 (?) where Jimmy slips into Fair Isle dialect to talk to Magnus, the recluse who was set up. At least that's what it's meant to be, I've no idea if it's a genuine accent but it's a lovely moment.

Very true quite a few Shetlanders were complaining on fb about it when it first came out but honestly it doesn't have that many actors to fill the slots 🤷🏻‍♀️ so Glaswegians for the win I guess

Aye, but surely actors specialise in, erm, acting, so could adopt the Shetland accent? It just really annoys me, similarly when there's a Scottish character in a big drama (looking at you Peaky Blinders!)why not employ a Scots actor instead of someone doing a dreadful accent. It is so ridiculous.

I'm sure the Welsh/ Irish/ huge regional dialects across the UK feel the same whenever they watch something.

Close, he's from Vidlin, where the ferry terminal to Whalsay is. If he was from Whalsay you'd really struggle to understand him!

Absolutely agree about the accents. One of the actors from the Outlaws was talking on the radio today about learning the Bristol accent when she's from up north. There are some amazing actors who get the accents spot on.
