Anyone watching? I love this series and fancy Perez Grin He seems to have some extra timber on him.. I don’t like him in a suit, much prefer a fishermans knitted jumper on him..

Where were we left when the last series ended? Did he get together with someone? Someone who seemed to have shady motives? I can’t remember!

@longtompot

Series 4 was a really sad storyline. Thomas Malone (played by Stephen Walters) was such an angry man, and for good reason. I only guessed that the woman released was linked to a previous series, namely this one, due to the sister of the murdered girl. I recognised her but couldn't find anything about her and what she had been in.

I agree with last nights about there being far too many names. I have no idea who is who currently, apart from the usual cast, but I look forward to seeing who dunnit.

The Thomas Malone storyline was the best one, what a brilliant actor.

I quite like the Sandy character. In real life most workplaces have more than one incompetent Sandy. It makes the show feel believeable. In most dramas the person bad at their job is a big story in itself. They're are usually dealt with, wee Sandy just bumbles along Grin

I started watching series 4 again last night. I think I first watched it a year ago and it's familiar yet new and I'm really enjoying it.

Clawdy · 31/10/2021 08:41

Watched last series but can't remember any of it! Will have to look it up, finding this series so confusing.

SomepeopleareTERFSgetoverit · 31/10/2021 09:44
Here is his namesake singing about the Whalsay accent. Good luck!
Thank you for sharing that, years since I’ve heard it! “We hae trible A and we hae Ai Ai” Grin

He did a brilliant one based on Folsom Prison Blues too but I can’t find that anywhere, maybe Johnny Cash’s estate got stern.

IntermittentParps · 31/10/2021 14:52

Aye, but surely actors specialise in, erm, acting, so could adopt the Shetland accent? It just really annoys me, similarly when there's a Scottish character in a big drama (looking at you Peaky Blinders!)why not employ a Scots actor instead of someone doing a dreadful accent. It is so ridiculous.

I find almost all actors' attempts at accents not their own toe-curling. I actually had to stop watching Peaky Blinders because I found the fake West Mids accents so egregious.

Inkanta · 31/10/2021 17:04

Oh yes the nun does look like a man! What's that all about.

LadyEloise1 · 31/10/2021 19:09

@Inkanta I thought it was odd. The way "she" dumped Perez in the room and rudely flounced off.

Etinoxaurus · 31/10/2021 19:11

@LadyEloise1 I assumed she was a meme et of a silent order.

IntemperateSpirits · 31/10/2021 19:29

Did anyone see the series of An Island Parish based on the Shetlands? There was a real life nun in that who was er, unusual, and lived her life her own way. Perhaps she was the inspiration for the tall speechless door answering grumpy nun?

LadyEloise1 · 31/10/2021 19:36
Grin

Spoiler for previous series.

You need to rewatch the one with the Thomas Malone character getting released from jail and that will fill in some of the gaps as he was the man in jail for the murder which the woman dying in this series committed.

Rhannion · 31/10/2021 22:44

Sorry should have said it was series 4 of Shetland that featured Thomas Malone.

Clawdy · 31/10/2021 22:44

Thanks, Rhannion, will check that out.

Maireas · 03/11/2021 21:31

@Rhannion

I got the feeling that that it was a woman who tossed the drone in the sea, or some quite slight in build.
You were right!
Maireas · 03/11/2021 21:32

At least Sandy is alright. Still unprofessional, though!

Rhannion · 03/11/2021 21:46

A cake fridge?!!!

Maireas · 03/11/2021 21:47

Yes. A cake fridge. I'm going to suggest that's unusual!

Rhannion · 03/11/2021 21:54

At the side of a lonely road? Where do they plug it in?

Maireas · 03/11/2021 22:00

I didn't know. Do you think it's solar powered? Who makes the cakes? Who collects the money?
Did Meg drive Perez snr out there in order to get closer to Jimmy?.
Anyway. It's all gone pear shaped for the Creggans.

absolutelynotfabulous · 03/11/2021 22:03

Liking this.

Duncan living with Jimmy?

Duncan has son with Donna? Didn't know that.

Nurse as love interest for Jimmy?

Quite fancy cake fridge.

Maireas · 03/11/2021 22:21

Note: the nurse claims her mum had dementia.
Am I too suspicious, or is that and the cake fridge part of her plan?

Maireas · 03/11/2021 22:23

Jimmy's looking a bit of a bauchle.

Clawdy · 03/11/2021 22:24

That nurse seems a bit too good to be true.

Maireas · 03/11/2021 22:33

Is she in league with the Dr, who's wife was having an affair with Galbraith?.
Why was Galbraith paying the care home fees for the man whose daughter left Shetland?
