Anyone watching? I love this series and fancy Perez Grin He seems to have some extra timber on him.. I don’t like him in a suit, much prefer a fishermans knitted jumper on him..

Where were we left when the last series ended? Did he get together with someone? Someone who seemed to have shady motives? I can’t remember!

I'm just watching series 4 again.

What did everyone see in Donna??!!

I've watched the very first episode from series one on DVD now. They all look very young, except Tosh still seems to look as young in the most recent series too!

Drug woman's story was left as a red herring. IIRC they said she would be looking at prison as she was found with the bag of drugs in the container (not sure that would stick?) and drug guy who had locked her in said he was a dead man as he couldn't pay for the drugs/money he owed those further up the food chain. Also he would be charged with trying to run over Sandy.

None of the rich guys asked for a lawyer to be present when being questioned. Hmm Galbraith wasn't the only lawyer in the Islands. Loads of people turned up to the funeral who didn't know Marie Anne including the aforementioned Nurse and the Syrian family who were recent arrivals. On what planet did Perez think he could leave his father with dementia in his unfamiliar house all day long until late at night and all would be well?

The nurse seemed to good to be true, but I guess she really did just have the hots for Perez

I'm surprised they arrested Jimmy for assisting suicide rather than perverting the cause of justice - they must think he's very involved (I think I got that right?)
No, they didn’t say the same thing to him as they did to Duncan, who they DID arrest under the Suicide Act.

I don’t think donna’s claim will stick. She’s not there to argue for herself and the letter proves nothing. The nurse has also made it pretty clear that she’d speak to defend Duncan if called. Of course D may still face punishment for the assisted suicide itself, but they might go easy on him.

Jimmy is the one in real trouble because he tried to cover up Duncan’s actions.

I wasn't convinced by Niven's claim that the killing in the decompression chamber was accidental.

@Twospaniels

Just finished watching this and am confused.

Did Galbraith’s own wife kill him? Why?

What was the point of all the stuff with the man on the ship in the decompression chamber?

What happened to the woman who’s children had been taken away and she got taken off in a van by some bloke and shut in a container?

Galbraith's wife killed him because he was going to confess everything about the death of the girl at the party on Fetlar. It would have ruined her chances of being elected as an MP.

The man in the decompression chamber was killed sort of accidentally. He had footage of Galbraith's wife on his drone and had tried to blackmail her. Her election campaign manager, who was in on the murder of Galbraith as he was also involved in the Fetlar girl's death, arranged for him to have an 'accident' in the decompression chamber but it wasn't meant to kill him, he thought they'd be able to shut off the valves in time that he would live but be scared off his blackmail / keep silent.

Drug woman was left as a dead end because she wasn't anything to do with the killing. We don't know what's going on with her since she was rescued from the container.

I swim in the sea. It’s fucking Baltic - but good for the soul.

Olly - I had school swimming lessons in a grim soviet-style pool in st Magnus st I think it was. That was in the late 80s. I used to bunk off and stalk the sletts instead.

Why did the nurse go to the funeral of a random she'd never met?

And does the sea ever get warm enough to swim in? That's some of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen.

I was at school in Shetland before the swimming pool was built (although it was under construction - not that old!). We had swimming lessons in the sea.

I know about the Gulf Stream but the water is still bloody cold! Swam a lot when I was younger but don’t think I could face it now. But there are usually quite a few swimmers in the water on nice days. You’re right - so many beautiful beaches.

@AlphabetAerobics

Very late to the thread - just got to watch it this weekend.

1) bemused at all the fuss around a cake fridge. Surely it’s the most natural thing in the world? 😁
2) Brian blessed who played Magnus Tait did a good Shetland accent.
3) I always thought Sandy was from Unst. Mind blown!
4) burying a body on fetlar - easy peasy.

Brian Blessed wasn't in Shetland

Plenty of people wild swim in Shetland. They say it's better in winter as the difference between sea and air temperature is less! It's on the gulf stream, so sea temperatures aren't as bad as they could be.

Thanks, @FluffyBooBoo - it confused me initially because the source I read had photos of Tosh, and some of the information was about her too!

I'll quite miss my weekly dose of Shetland tonight after six weeks of it.

Q. Why did the nurse go to the funeral of a random she'd never met ?

A. Because we Irish like a good funeral.
Because she knew she'd see Perez there and she's nothing if not persistent. Smile

Douglas Henshall has tweeted that they are just finishing filming series 7 - so hopefully we will get answers to what happened to Duncan/Jimmy/Tosh/Nurse OFlirty sooner rather than later.

I thought Tosh did a very convincing Scottish accent - now I know why! I'm completely inclined to accept she is a Scot, given that the same links telling me she's Irish also say she's in her 60s!

That's a different Alison O'Donnell. The 60 year old born in Dublin is a singer.

I watch this series for the Shetland scenery - it seemed they got lucky with the weather as it can be wild there. I loved it there for a visit but would think it's tough going in the winter. Few trees, can be bleak.

As for this series I found the script, plot and even some of the acting a bit poor. Love Dougie H who does look a bit older and pudgier this time. Tosh and Sandy keep wheeling out the same facial expressions! Perez keeps exiting left pronto. The police procedure is not realistic but that's drama for you.
